Video Transcript for Review of CURT Trailer Hitch Ball - Hitch Ball 1-7/8 Inch - C40017

Hi, everybody, Andy here with etrailer.com. And today, we're gonna take a real quick look at this CURT hitch ball. This 1 7/8 inch hitch ball is going to give you a connection point for your trailer's coupler. And this features a durable steel construction with this corrosion resistant chrome finish. And this has a weight capacity of 3,500 pounds. Now, this has fine threads.

It's going to give you an exceptionally tight, strong grip. And the built-in wrench flats, it's going to make it easy to hold this ball in place while you're tightening down the nut. And lemme pull out my ruler here just to give you some overall dimensions. Looking at the length of the shank, we're sitting right at three inches long as you can see there. And the diameter, we are sitting right at an inch.

Now, as you can see here on my table before me, the lock washer and nut are both included with this. And when installing this, you're just going to place this through the ball hole on your ball mount. And then the lock washer is going to go underneath followed by the nut. And this is going to fit ball mount platforms from one-inch to two-inch thick. And then you just wanna make sure that you torque this down, torque the nut down to the specifications listed by the manufacturer and that information will be on the label that comes attached to this hitch ball.

Well, that's gonna conclude our brief look today. I do hope that it was helpful for you. Again, my name is Andy. Thank you for joining me.

I couldn't find a ball hitch with a long enough shank for my '09 Tacoma bumper. It was even hard to locate online, but etrailer.com had what I was looking for. It works great, no issues since I put it on. I use it to pull a light trailer, usually with a lawnmower.

Still working great

by:

I looked everywhere for a 1 78 x 1 x3. No one had it. I have a special situation that required a 3 shank. Glad I found you.

by:

Good selection. I found the proper configuration right away and the product works perfectly on my utility trailer “pusher” which is battery powered and allows me to move trailer on and out of storage.

by:

Bought this ball for the long shank because I bought a thicker ball mount. Exactly what I needed. Seems to be rated for a bit more weight than most 1 7/8" balls, too.

by:

A perfect fit for my 2018 GMC Canyon's OEM step bumper hitch. Like other reviews have pointed out, the ball is in fact chrome despite what the official product photo suggests.

by:

After one year it's still a good quality ball hitch. I store it in my trunk when not using so the finish is still very good on the chrome. Highly reccomended!

by:

This product did not exist in the 'real world' and we could only find it online at etrailer.com. It was exactly as promised and was delivered very quickly. We couldn't have been happier with the service we received from etrailer.com.

by:

Was exactly what I needed and was exactly as described! Very easy install and works great for my boat trailer shipping was super fast and price was great!! Very satisfied all the way around thank you guys again!!!

by:

The tow ball I needed was not available at any of the big box stores. Etrailer helped a lot! Every step of the process of getting my part went excellent. From finding the part on-line to Customer Service, ordering, purchasing and timely receipt. Thank you and keep up the great work.

by:

It got me and trailer to destinations with no problems so far.

by:

It's a hitch ball is the size I needed and reasonably priced.

by:

The wait on shipping was worth it. This is something I could not locate anywhere else either locally here in Florida or on the web. Thanks again etrailer for another quality product.

by:

Just arrived have not installed yet looks good...

by:

All went smooth as silk, received exactly what I ordered. Would do business with this company again and recommend to everyone, Thanks

by:

A perfect fit for the Alumstinger mount. One minor point: the product image looks like a satin finish, but it is actually chrome.

by:

Excellent price, fast delivery, no problems. Will order again from this site. Product was exactly as described and arrived exactly when it said it would. Very satisfied.

by:

Great quality hitch ball for a great price, only place I could find one to fit my truck.

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch and Wiring for 1999 Lincoln Town Car
We have everything needed to equip your 1999 Lincoln Town Car so that it can pull your boat trailer. Starting with the trailer hitch, I recommend the Curt Class III Receiver Hitch # 13707. This Class III hitch is confirmed to fit your Lincoln Town Car and it features a towing capacity of 4,000 pounds. I recommend also verifying the capacity of your vehicle by checking your copy of the owner's manual. You will need to follow whichever capacity is lower, the vehicle's or the hitch's. I...

You can absolutely store the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness # HM11143865 in the hatch of your 2013 Subaru Outback when you aren't using it instead of routing it outside the vehicle. The connector end will be long enough to hang outside your hatch when you need to connect it to your trailer. I have added a link to the instructions and a video install for you to check out as well of the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness # HM11143865. If you also need a trailer...

  • Availability Of 2-5/16" Hitch Ball with 1-1/4" Diameter Shank That Is At Least 3" Long
It sounds like you are looking for a hitch ball with a long shank. We have the exact 2-5/16" hitch ball you are looking for which is the 2-5/16" Hitch Ball w/ 1" Rise - 1-1/4" Diameter x 3-1/4" Long Shank - Raw - 24K # BWHB94003 which has a 1-/4" diameter shank and a 3-1/4" long shank. While we do have a 1-7/8" hitch ball that has a 1-1/4" shank, the # C48810, it only has a shank that is 2-3/8" long. Your best bet would be to purchase a separate ball mount with a 1" diameter ball mount...

  • WIring Harness, Brake Controller and Weight Distribution System for 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan
Getting the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e98854 for your 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan was a really good decision and would have been my choice so you are off to a real good start. As for a wiring harness, I highly recommend the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # C56331. This will give you a 4-flat connector, but to add a brake controller you'll also need the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller # ETBC7, which will give you a...

  • Recommend Corrosion Resistant 1-7/8 Inch Trailer Hitch Ball With 1 Inch Shank and 3 Inch Long Shank
We do have 1-7/8 inch hitch balls available in the dimensions that you need of 1 inch diameter shank, and 3 inch shank length, but not in a stainless steel finish. For a hitch ball with those exact measurements, we have the Curt Hitch Ball, part # C40017, which has a chrome finish. Another option that you may want to consider is the Convert-A-Ball Ball, part # 105LB, which features an interchangeable hitch ball. Part # 105LB, has a Nickel finish which is also corrosion resistant finish....

  • How Difficult Is It To Install A Hitch On A 2021 Mustang Mach-E
Installing either the Curt # C77ER or the Draw-Tite # DT92MR on your 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E does indeed require trimming of the bumper fascia due to the hidden nature of how they install. This can be a bit daunting as it is your brand new vehicle, but fret not for it is not too difficult to accomplish. You can do this a few ways, but slow and steady will make for cleaner and straighter lines. To start, measure twice, mark with painters tape, or something similar, and then verify your...

  • How to Trim Plastic Fascia for Hitch Ball Installation on Silverado 1500 OEM Step Bumper
To install a hitch ball with a 1-inch shank, such as the Curt 3500-lb-rated 1-7/8-inch ball # C40017, you'll want to start by making a 1-inch hole in the plastic fascia using a drill bit. Initially you will want the hole to be only as large as needed to match the diameter of the shank of the hitch ball you're using. Start out with just the 1-inch diameter to accept the ball's shank, then enlarge the hole using a hole saw of the appropriate diameter to match the ball's base diameter.

  • Recommended Hitch Ball With A 3 Inch Shaft
When it comes to a 1-7/8 inch ball or a 2 inch ball with a 3 inch shaft we do not have any stainless steel options. We do have the Chrome in a 2 inch # C40020 and in 1-7/8 inch # C40017. We also have the 2 inch Zinc coated # CB84Z. We do have The 2 inch Hitch Ball - 1-1/4 inch Diameter x 2-5/8 inch Long Shank - Stainless Steel - 10K # C69FR that may also work for you. I recommend taking a look at the Curt Dual Length Ball Mount # C45230 for your application. This ball mount features a 3-5/8 inch drop but also has two separate pin holes that let you change the length of the shank so you can get a bit more extension. When using the second hitch pin hole, there is a distance of 11-1/8 inches from the center of the pin hole to the center of the hitch ball hole. The ball mount has a weight capacity of 7,500 pounds and a ball hole diameter of 1 inch. For...

  • Recommended Ball Mount for a Setup that Needs 1-3/4 inch Rise
For a ball mount that will give you the correct amount of rise for your setup you would want the Curt Ball Mount part # C45270. This has a 2 inch rise which would work well for you when you consider that with the tongue weight of your trailer on the hitch the rear suspension will most like sag slightly which would allow your trailer to sit perfectly level. If you need a pin and clip part # F-4 would be what to use. Or for a locking hitch pin # e98880. For a 2 inch hitch ball you would...

It's 14 inches long. However, when using any hitch extender, you will reduce your hitch's tongue weight by 50 percent. You will need to make sure you are staying under this capacity. • Recommended Solution for Ball Mount with Multiple Hitch Balls and 7" Drop That Won't Drag
The 2" hitch ball on the B&W Tow and Stow # BWTS10049B is on the left hand side and not on the top, so as you've noted it might potentially drag the 2-5/16" ball when towing in that orientation. With that said, typically you'll have at least 12" of coupler height to tow level and the hitch ball will only extend down about 3-1/2", so you would still have at least 8-1/2" of clearance from the ground which in most cases should leave you safe. This would be the best solution we have available...
