Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver For 2007 Mercury Grand Marquis W/ Dual Exhaust
Question:
Hi, What does class III mean? Need a hitch for my 2007 grand marquis. It has dual exhaust. Also, do I need to change it to single exhaust before I put the trailer hitch on? Havent bought the hitch yet. Am looking to buy the one your selling for my car. Thanks

The Class III rating on a trailer hitch receiver means it has a 2" receiver and has a higher tongue weight and trailer weight rating than a Class I or II hitch. Class III hitches are what we typically recommend if they are available for the specific vehicle as the 2" receiver offers the most options for accessories like a bike rack, cargo carrier, or ball mount, and the increased tongue weight and trailer weight ratings are ideal for knowing the receiver on your vehicle is plenty strong for your intended use.
For your 2007 Grand Maquis I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # 13707 which will fit with your dual exhaust so you will not need to have single exhaust installed, but you will need to have an exhaust hanger relocated to clear the hitch.
The # 13707 has a 400lb tongue weight rating and 4000lb trailer weight rating making it a great option for a bike rack, cargo carrier, or a ball mount to tow a trailer.
If you are planning to tow a trailer you will also need a vehicle wiring harness # 46255, ball mount # C45270, 1-7/8" hitch ball # C40017 or 2" hitch ball # 40038, and hitch pin and clip # C21500.
I included videos of the products mentioned for you to take a look at.
