Video Transcript for Fastway Flash 2-Ball Mount with Built-In Scale Review

Hey everyone, how's it going Today, we're gonna be going over the line of Fastway Flash 2 Ball Mounts, with built in scale for 2-inch hitches. So this is what our ball mount looks like installed. First thing we're gonna notice is the shiny finish. This is due to the aluminum construction. So we have a 2-inch shank here, it's gonna be designed for 2-inch hitches, but it actually can be used with larger hitches as well. This is actually a 2 1/2-inch hitch, and we're just simply using a reducer adapter.

Now most of your trucks with these larger hitches are gonna come with this adapter. And if you don't have it, we have plenty here at etrailer. So touching on the finish, in the aluminum construction. So if you guys have ever handled a similar steel adjustable ball mount, those things are pretty heavy. This aluminum one here, as soon as you get it out of the box, the first thing you're gonna notice is this thing's pretty light.

Even for the size of it, it's pretty easy to manage to get in and out of the hitch. So second, the aluminum, uh, finish here is gonna provide us with protection from rust and corrosion. Steel ball mounts, most of them are powder-coated and if that powder coating does flake off or wear off over time, which is kind of inevitable considering what we're using it for. They can start to rust. We're not gonna have any issues at all here with our aluminum ball mount.

So, the most notable feature of our ball mount here is obviously gonna be the built-in scale. So, why is a built in scale important in your ball mount Well, it's really an overlooked feature that you're gonna grow to love once you start using it. And the reason for this is it really allows us to fine tune our set-up so we can get the perfect tongue weight for our trailer. So, having the perfect tongue weight is really gonna make life a lot more simpler, our towing experience overall is gonna be much greater. Now the reason for this is getting the ideal tongue weight of our trailer, which is around 10 to 15% of the gross trailer weight rating.

It's gonna help us with braking in our towed vehicle as well as handling and steering. So again, overall, a much more pleasant towing experience. So here's a closer look at the actual mechanical scale here built into our ball mount. You can see here, we can read from 0 to 1000 pounds, in 200 pound increments. This red little dial here in the center, that's gonna let us know how much weight we have for this particular trailer. So how are we gonna use our scale effectively, in order to create the best towing experience So, number one, we're just gonna hook up everything like we would normally. So you can see now, we got our trailer coupled, we got our jack up, the safety chains, the electrical, everything's plugged in. So we can then get down there, and we can read the tongue weight rating that our ball mount is showing from our trailer. So say it's 500 pounds. We can then use that measurement or that figure, rather. To determine if we're in the correct range of our trailer using the gross trailer weight. Because again, we wanna be within 10 to 15%. So if we're not within that margin, we could go ahead and shift some weight here in our trailer in order to get to that sweet spot. And once we have that sweet spot, we know we're gonna get a great, pleasant towing experience here with our truck. So there's actually gonna be four different versions of this exact same ball mount. They're all gonna be for 2-inch hitches, and how they differ is gonna be the amount of rise and drop we have. So obviously this is an adjustable ball mount, meaning we can adjust the ball platform here, up or down, in order to get the correct rise or drop to tow our trailer level. So, in order to find out which one is gonna be best for us, we'll go ahead and take some measurements. We'll be measuring from the ground, to the top inside edge of the receiver tube. And then from the ground, to the bottom edge of the lip here on our coupler, while the coupler is leveled. Now, the distance between these two measurements is gonna give us our correct rise and drop. Keep in mind, if you have multiple trailers, you'd wanna measure those as well. But then we can then use this information to choose the correct ball mount. So, pretty much no matter what the discrepancy is between our truck and trailer, we're gonna have a ball mount to suit our needs. So another nice thing about our ball mount here, is that it actually comes with two different hitch balls. We have the 2 and 5/16-inch hitch ball, which most of the larger trailers are gonna use. And then we have the 2-inch hitch ball, which some of our smaller to medium sized trailers use. So, pretty much, no matter what trailer we have, we're gonna be able to tow it no problem here with our ball mount, using one of the two hitch balls or one of these several height adjustments. So, in regards to weight capacities, this aluminum ball mount here. We're gonna be limited to 10,000 pounds for the gross trailer weight rating, and then 1,000 pounds for the tongue weight rating. So keep in mind, our ball mount actually doesn't come with a hitch pin. So you will need to pick one of those up, and we have plenty to choose from here etrailer. However, I highly recommend that you get the Fastway Dual Locking Pin set, designed specifically for this ball mount. And the reason why is, it comes with a lock tune up, only lock the ball mount to the trailer hitch. They also come with a lock to lock the ball platform to the shank. And that's gonna do it today, for our look at line of Fastway Flash 2 Ball Mounts with built-in scale, for 2-inch hitches..

I purchased the Flashway brand because my boss has them on all of his vehicles and they look heavy duty. I purchased the drop hitch for my lifted truck and it looks great! The quality and style is just what I wanted. Carol was very quick to reply and delivery was in a blink of an eye. Very happy.

A quality aluminum ball hitch made in USA - looks great - fits my 2 inch receiver very well - left off 1 star to see how hitch holds up after a few pulls

by:

High tow rating and lighter than steel!

by:

I have had this on my truck for over a year now with no issues. Works great and the spring loaded ball bearings keep the ballmount from rattling around in the hitch.
I have towed an equipment trailer with a 7,500 lb tractor on it on several occasions with no issues.
The only signs of corrosion are around the receiver opening where rust from the hitch has stained the aluminum. This could be eliminated if the ball mount was stored somewhere other than in the hitch.

by:

Good Looking and strong....just like I used to be.
Perhaps the nicest thing is that the good people at etrailer were able to change our ship to location mid ship. Thanks very much for doing that.

by:

Was not sure what quality of hitch I would receive only seeing it in pictures. This peice is light weight and the machining was perfect, fit perfectly in the reciever, Great hitch for the price.

by:

After about 1.5 - 2 years of of daily use this Ball mount failed big time. I was driving about 35 mph and the ball mount broke at the ball opening. My trailer detached and was dragging behind my truck. ball mount is fine if you don't use it a lot I guess. I will not buy again.

by:

The product is very well built and comes highly polished. I expected, as advertised, that there would be the two spring loaded ball bearings on the male end to reduce the rattling but they were not there. Consequently, the fit on the 2012 F-150 receiver is very sloppy and rattles excessively. I tightened the fit by wedging composite shims in the gaps to remove the slop. Don't know how long they will stay in. I would imagine the manufacturer makes it a little undersized to fit more recievers. Well built product/Poor fit.

by:

Love it. Light weight yet 2000lb tounge weight. Just mounted a new ball, perfect fit in 1" hole. Bought the new ball bearing locking pin sprayed a little silicone inside lock before locking my new hitch to truck. All very nice. Will likely buy another to mount a larger ball so i don't have to swap balls. Was concerned the locking pin would be too short but there is 1/4" extra length, just fine.

by:

Very nice looking drop hitch, light weight and nicely machined and polished. The only thing I would improve is that the ball bearings for the anti-rattle feature do not extend far enough to work in my receiver (a Curt XD) but that is just my own personal truck.

by:

This ball mount is top quality, aircraft grade, billet aluminum… and far nicer in appearance than I would've expected. It is obviously CNC machined, and highly polished afterwards. This ball mount is also surprisingly light in weight, considering it is milled from a solid piece of aluminum bar stock. Another positive point to this type of construction method is that there are no welds to fail. This tough mount will no doubt outlast my truck, and can handle 4300 lbs. more tow capacity than my vehicle's gross towing capacity! It will be a real shame the first time I overshoot my trailer and gar this beautiful ball mount, but it is bound to happen. The "anti-rattle" ball-type tensioners are a nice touch, which quiet down the hitch while trailering, or on rough roads. I highly recommend spending a little more than you would for a painted steel ball mount, and purchasing this solid aluminum beauty instead. It will look nicer for much longer, won't corrode, and conducts electricity, (for those of you whose trailer plugs aren't wired with a ground, and rely the ball to coupler contact to complete the ground between your tow vehicle and trailer, you won’t have to file off any paint to get a good ground contact). Bottom line: this is a great product; etrailer.com has friendly and knowledgeable customer care staff, who offer fast, first-class service and shipping. I will definitely do business with etrailer.com again. Thanks so much! Joseph in Ojai CA.

This ball mount is great! I bought it because it looks amazing. So much better than the standard black ones that you get from u-haul or wherever else. Plus being aluminum it will not rust or corrode in any way.

The downsides would be that it is very expensive comparitively. It also uses balls with a 1 1/4" shank which aren't the most common. But as long as you order the ball from etrailer.com as well there won't be any issues. I have 2 DTBM5200s one with a 2" ball and one with a 2 5/16" ball and they both work great!

by:

This hitch is exactly what I wanted and looks very nice and has held up very well. Be sure and get the lock because it attracts a lot of attention.

by:

Bought this product to replace a permanently rusted in receiver. Firs awesome. Very well built. Consider purchasing a locking hitch pin with this product as its appearance seems prone to theft.

by:

These are small but still lets you see what’s behind you, takes a little getting used to but fit on my Ascent mirrors. The rubber straps hold the mirrors on though they do need to be tightened up a bit as the miles go by, I haven’t had any fall off and have put several thousand miles on them. High winds tend to work them loose so keep an eye on them, an extra strap catching the mirror on the window side would help in the long haul.

by:

This is exactly what I was looking for. Just by looking at it you know it is high quality and it is MADE IN USA! Really looks good mounted on my new 2015 F-350. Very pleased with this ball mount.

by:

You guys have great quality products
I'm
very happy with communication
I'm glad to do business with etrailer
I will be back
Thank you

by:

Hitch piece doesn't insert receiver very far - causing the ball mount to sag a bit.

by:

The product has been great, I haul a 20 ft. bass boat around all summer, hitch has worked out great. Fast, reliable on-line service. Thanks

by:

Nicely polished with good final machine surfaces. High load rating. Not sure what Alluminum Alloy it is. My guess is 6061 or 7075. Nice product and quality in comparision to other aluminum mounts. Packaged well and arrived quickly.

by:

Well built Ball Mount the only thing I am Dissapointed in is that they stopped making this with the anti rattle feature but other than that I am very happy with the Quality.

by:

This ball mount not only looks good, but it functions very well. I have had no problems with it whatsoever. I use a stainless ball which I purchased from etrailer and it too works very well. I switch this ball mount and ball between my F-150 and a Jeep Rubicon and it works perfectly for both pulling two very different kinds of trailers. I do not keep it on either vehicle very long after use as it tends to attract attention and I don't want someone trying to steal it or other items from the vehicle.

by:

Great ball mount. Heavy duty & nicely finished. Fit perfect. Thanks!

by:

Absolutely pleased with this high capacity light weight ball mount. The 6” drop is a perfect match for my 2016 Expedition w/ 22” wheels for a normal boat and landscape trailer. I don’t leave the shin buster in when not towing so being ez to handle is a big plus.
