What's up, everybody It's AJ with etrailer.com. Today we're gonna be checking out the GEN-Y Phantom. This is gonna be a ball mount that actually flips up underneath the truck, and we're gonna be trying it out on our 2022 GMC Sierra 1500. Looking at the Phantom's gonna have three stacked receivers on top of each other, so that's how it's an adjustable ball mount. You can slide this in any portion you want or need to to adjust to the truck and trailer height. You also have the choice between the two inch ball and the two and five 16th inch ball, so that's nice to have all those options in one setup.
You don't have to have multiple ball mounts in the back of your truck and switch them out. So another nice thing about this is, and probably the main feature, is it tucks up underneath the truck. So what you're gonna do is pull this clip and pin on this side. And then we'll pull the pin. I'll flip down and underneath and then place that pin and that clip.
So now you see it's underneath the truck, so it's out of the way, so when you're walking back and forth here behind the truck, you're not gonna hit your shin or anything on that. It kind of makes it less space being taken up back here. The main feature they say is that you can use the MultiPro Tailgate, but you can't really use it on your 1500, it does make contact. I'm gonna show you that now. So being very careful I'm gonna hit the button to lower the tailgate, and then I'll hit the button to lower the second section.
I'm gonna get down under there to show you that with my hand in between there, it will make contact if I let it go all the way down. So you can't really use this and if you stepped on the tailgate, it would definitely make contact and scratch paint. Now that we know that it doesn't work with the MultiPro Tailgate, I will say that I would check out the BMW Two & Stow. It will fold underneath the truck and the tailgate will fold out, so if that's a big part of what you wanted, check that one out. The Phantom's gonna have a gross trailer weight rating of 12,000 pounds, and it's also gonna have a gross tongue weight rating of 1,200 pounds.
Now that's whether you use the two and five 16th inch ball or the two inch ball. The is gonna be a black powder coat steel, so you know it's gonna hold up. It's not gonna rust or corrode on you, and if you leave it in the elements, if you leave it out like this, it's not gonna bother it at all. Now the one we're looking at today has six inches of drop and rise, so whether it's in the drop position or the rise position, that's what you're gonna get. Now, just keep in mind that if it is in the rise position, you're not gonna be able to fold it underneath the vehicle. Overall, I like the Phantom, I like the ability to get the ball out of the way so I don't worry about running into it. It is a shame it doesn't work with the MultiPro Tailgate but like I said before, check out the BMW Tow & Stow if that's something you really wanted to use. Otherwise, though, I like the heavy duty build of this one. I like how it functions. The only thing I would do differently maybe is get some InfiniteRule locking hitch pins, so lock it up to the hitch and lock up your accessory, that way you don't anything to worry about. Well, I think that does it. Thanks for hanging out and I hope this helped..

I wanted to be able to tow any trailer with a single hitch and that is why I purchased this model. Any size ball and pintle hitch all in one implement is great.... the drawback, this thing weights a lot. I don't like leaving the hitch on the truck if I'm not towing, but this thing is too heavy to move and I'm worried about this much weight bending the toolbox on the truck if I hit a bump.
For measurement purposes... This is a 2000 F-350 4x4 on stock 16" rims and tires and a CM flatbed. I got the 5" drop\rise model and it looks like it is going to be great. In case i need it, I added the 1 7/8" ball to the drawbar. When I can afford to get three matched key pins I will order them.
Overall the hitch is heavy duty and solid. I have ready some reviews about the Pintle option and have used mine for the first time towing an empty trailer. It is showing some wear behind the ball where the wedge is welded. I will try it with a load and see how it holds up.
i hate to give a negative review but for the money it should not have that excessive amount of wear with it’s first use.
I have a curt hitch with the Pintle and it has worked perfectly. I was looking for something that had a better curb appeal with the Gen Y.
Just received my new hitch and my first impressions is that this is a very stout hitch. The hitch is very heavy, so I won’t be taking it off and on much. I’ll leave the stacked receiver on the truck, I had a locking pin to secure it to the truck. I will store the 2-ball mount in the cab for now until I get some locking pins. Don’t want to become a victim of theft! When I obtain the locking pins, I will leave the balls attached. If you want a very stout adjustable hitch, I definitely recommend this Gen-Y hitch. Can’t wait to test it out on the road!
The best hitch you can buy! I run these in my company trucks. Makes connecting to anything we have simple and easy. No searching for lost hitches or figuring out who is using what.
Best hitch on the market . I have them on 33 trucks
best hitch I've owned. I have no doubt it will pull any of our equipment with no problem. odelelia was a big help and so nice when I ordered it a year ago.
Heavy duty, strong and reliable. The black color on the ball scratched off fairly quickly, and the additional length of the hitch may keep some safety chains from reaching the vehicle. These are just things I noticed, but the quality of the hitch is tremendous.
It’s heavy duty. I think it weighs as much as my equalizer hitch. I just got a new truck so we’ll see on a hitch height but on my old truck I wish I’d gotten the hitch with one height up so I had more adjustment and so it’s off hitting the ground. Oh well I tried guessing. I should of listened to the spirit. But a great heavy duty hitch.
Very strong hitch
This is a very functional and versatile hitch. Incidentally, the extended horizontal length allows me to drop my tailgate and not hit my trailer jack. The only theoretical downside is the increased torque on the receiver because of the horizontal extension inherent with the hitch design, as well as the massive weight. these issues do not seem to be functionally relevant however. Pintle may come in handy someday. I would buy again.
We love these hitches so much we’re replacing all we have in the fleet with the Gen-Y. Etrailer’s customer service is the reason we don’t shop anywhere else.
It's a great hitch. Fits our needs. Only negative thing I can say is the paint/coating rubbed off almost immediately after putting it to use so there's a rust ring around it where it meets the receiver.
WOW. That is pretty much the word that sums it up. WOW. Not only because it weighs roughly 60 pounds, but she is pretty to look at to boot. Aside from that - the construction on this thing in a monster. Overbuilt by Hercules to pull down a mountain kind of over built. Exactly how we expect anything truck related to be. You do not want failure at any point, ever. This takes your drop hitch to a whole new level. I have owned B&W and Bulletproof before - and while there is nothing wrong with them - I do not think I will ever use another brand again. This is as good as they come.
I used adjustable ball mount to haul a tow dolly and also carry a hitch haul with wood. It worked great.
Another great purchase with etrailer. Fastest shipping and the same price as the lowest competitor.
I just installed the Gen-Y and its way better than my last one (much more stout). I put it on a 2011 f350 with a leveling kit on 35s and Im defiantly glad that I got one with the 7 inch drop. Im also going to be putting it on a Kubota M-120 to pull a 12ft box scraper.
Tow hitch is 100% expensive but towing my trailers has been so smooth it’s defiantly good quality and worth what you pay , defiantly recommend buying a $10-$20 lock so nobody steals it off your truck though!
Bought this product from etrailer and was amazed at the high level of customer service and knowledge. The product arrived ahead of schedule and was packaged well. This product is made well and I’m glad it’s a product of the USA.
No doubt it's "mega duty". Thing weighs 54 lbs. I don't know if its worth the money but I'd say its probably the best hitch you could get!
After two failed attempts and three weeks lost trying to buy same hitch on [online] n, same hitch from etrailer was ordered on Thursday and delivered on Saturday. Same hitch same price. The status updates were clear, uo to minute and never once saw a "lost in transit" once. `The hitch itself was a snug fit on my ram 2500 and I guess that's not a bad thing but its in and I have no doubts it will do the job.
So far it’s worked great. I have several different style trailers I pull daily and it’s great that I don’t have to change out hitches every time I have to pull a different trailer.
Great unit
Heavy duty, high quality, delivered on time as promised. Thanks e-trailer.
Great receiver
The drop was perfect for motorhome to tow our car. I have 13,000 miles of towing with it and not one issue.
Would definitely buy it again.
