BoatBuckle's second-generation gunwale tie-down straps bolt to the side of your trailer, don't require a tie-down anchor, and simplify the securing and unloading of your boat. They are designed to keep constant tension on the strap and require minimal ratcheting to secure your load. Instead of always having to find and store tie-down straps that hook to the tie-down anchors on your boat, you will find that BoatBuckle's straps are always right where you need them. Just pull up on the hook and strap, attach the hook to the gunwale, and then operate the ratchet several times. No more dealing with extra webbing or looking for the tie-down strap. And when unloading, simply push the release button on the ratchet, free the hook from the gunwale anchor and let the strap retract back down into the ratchet.

Installation

These straps come with the mounting hardware that you'll need to install them. It is recommended that you use anti-seize (LT37616 - sold separately) to ensure that the nuts are properly tightened down over the bolts. You can use the included bolts to mount the ratchets directly to the trailer frame or crossmember. If you need to angle the ratchet strap or move it a little farther off the frame, a universal mounting kit (IMF14254 - sold separately) is available.

Note: Gunwale tie-downs should always be used along with a winch strap and a set of transom (stern) tie-downs. All straps and cables should be chosen according to their safe working load limit (WLL). To determine the maximum load, or break strength, of the strap, simply multiply the WLL by 3. The WLL is always one-third (1/3) of the maximum load. It is recommended that you always use straps in pairs.

I was annoyed at hooking a ratchet strap on one side of the trailer, then feeding the strap over the back of the boat and hooking and ratcheting the boat down.
The gunwale RETRACTABLE straps are perfect!!!!! The gunwale straps are easy to install, retractable ( so when not in use store themselves ) . When I am ready to use them I just pull the straps up and hook the gunwale on each side and ratchet them down.
Great product, worth the investment!!!

Great! I purchased a new boat . Same trailer deeper boat and with a flat floor . Had to ad guide-ons to the trailer so I moved the ratchet straps. I would be happy to send photos, still think they are convenient and practical!

I own a drift boat and was looking for a much easier way to secure the boat to the trailer. After doing some research, I liked the information which was available on etrailer.com. I purchased two pairs of gunwale tie down straps and mounted them permanently(bolted through the frame)to my trailer.
I trailer my drift boat 3 days a week. It's a 6 mile round trip to the launch and back home. My pre-trip routine is very simple with these tie down straps. I ratchet each strap until it is tight and that's it. When I arrive at the boat launch, I release each strap with the simple push of a button on each strap. The gunwale hook and tie down strap retract smoothly back into the tie down mechanism just like a seat belt in a vehicle.
To secure the boat to the trailer, you simply pull up on each gunwale hook and attach it to the gunwale. You then tension the tie down strap by ratcheting the mechanism. It's as simple as that.
When I arrive back home, I park the trailer and release tension on each tie down while leaving the gunwale hooks attached. It's that easy.
My 5 star rating is based on frequent usage without a failure of any kind. This is a quality product, very tough and durable.

Ordered on Monday , recieve don Friday via regular shipping. Easy install using existing bolts on trailer. SOOO much better than typical tie down strap running from one side to the other side of boat. Excellent

by:

by:

The tie downs work great. Saves time and are very easy to use.

by:

Over the past year, I have used these boatbuckles, and I am so glad I installed them, which is easy by the way. We don’t use them when traveling with the boat cover on, but locally, it’s just so easy and quick, especially at the ramp before taking out. If you don’t have them, you should buy them.

by:

These things make it a snap when launching and after launching. They hold the boat Good in place and are very durable. Had them on for a year and I'm Very Happy with them. The retractable part is holding up Great not like your cheaper ones out there. I have a pair also for my drift boat that are working Great as well. Jeff

Thanks the products are still working Great in fact one of the motivating factor of buying these from you was the low price you sell them for in fact Im going to order some of the same to outfit another boat i bought for my Fishing Guide Service. Thanks again for checking in with me really appreciate it

by:

we living in a fly fishing community and strapping down the driftboats was showing some wear and tear where the straps went. these save you from all the hassle and they are so much easier to use. we have gotten our second pair for a friend of ours, i figure by next spring these buckles will be catching on, can I get a commission? ;)

we have converted three others to get away form the whole strap ideal. I live in a flyfishing community and around all guides and the ones that have gone to the buckles are so happy about the hassle free and no wear and tear to their drift boats. very happy with the product.

by:

I cannot get this over the gunwale_side of my drift boat and they will not let me return it. This product is useless.

by:

I really like Boatbuckle products. They are always well made and always do what they're intended to do.

by:

Exactly what I wanted, fits perfectly over the gunwale of my war eagle boat. On top of that its $30 cheaper than what Cabelas or Basspro are selling them for.

by:

Best Gunwale hold down you can purchase! Our old straps wore thru all the time on the sides of our aluminum boat. These have nothing to wear because all that is touching the boat is the coated steel hook over the top of the gunwale. They actually hold down better than a full strap that has a tendency to "squash" the sides of the boat instead of actually pulling down like these do. Buy these and you will never need to replace due to a worn thru strap again!!!
Simple on and off and are self storing, no need to put the strap somewhere while your out fishing. It stays attached to the trailer.

by:

These buckles are spectacular! Their convenience is unmatched for a quick getaway at the end of the day. They are secure and have never failed in dozens of trips. They were also easy to install. Way simpler than throwing the old 'tie-down' over top the boat. Get 'em!

Thanks for checking up. I still love the boat buckles! They make tying down my boat slick and easy and I’ve never had a problem of them letting go. I can’t imagine using anything else!

  • How to Choose the Correct Tie-Down for a Boat and Trailer
When choosing tie-down straps like the BoatBuckle G2 Retractable Tie-Down Strap, # IMF14220, you will want to keep a few things in mind. Boat tie-downs are designed for normal highway driving. The purpose of most boat tie-downs is to strap the lightest object to the heaviest object, meaning you will want to choose a tie-down with a break strength that exceeds the weight of the lightest object. For example, if your boat weighs 4,000 lbs and your trailer weighs 2,000 lbs, you will want to...
