Conveniently disconnect the battery of your vehicle so you can flat tow it behind your RV per manufacturer instructions. Provides a charge for the breakaway switch and other accessories without draining the battery. For gas engine vehicles only.

Features:

  • Disconnects your battery with the flip of a switch so that your vehicle can be towed behind your RV
  • Eliminates inconvenience and the potential danger of pulling your battery cable
  • Provides a positive current source for the breakaway switch and other accessories without draining the battery
  • Operates with included switch
  • Includes a corrosion-resistant, marine-grade solenoid with 200-amp constant duty and 600-amp surge
    • Comes pre-assembled for easy installation

Specs:

  • Application: only for vehicles that require the battery disconnected for flat towing - consult your owner's manual
    • Works with almost any 12V battery
    • For gas engine vehicles only

Notes:

  • Not for use with diesel engine vehicles; due to the high compression ratio of diesels, the engine can surge up to 10 times that of a gasoline engine at start up and can cause the solenoid to fail.
  • Disconnecting the battery, whether manually or with the Roadmaster automatic disconnect, will affect your vehicle's electronics. You will need to reset various electrical components in your vehicle following use of this product.
  • A charge line kit (RM-156-25 - sold separately) is recommended if you have a braking system that is using power from the towed vehicle's battery while it is disconnected.

I had a little difficulty finding a good location for the solenoid, but finally found a spot on the radiator bulkhead. Since the photo was taken, I have added silicone boots over all of the solenoid connections.

Works great.

Fairly easy install. Routing the wiring is the most time consuming part. I would've liked to have had heat shrink terminals sent instead of just crimp terminals but overall its a great product so far!

(Also, I would recommend using a brown wire to link the lighting together in the rear as opposed to the white wire that is recommended in the instructional video, to keep everything clear for anyone who may work on it in the future)

by:

I highly recommend this battery disconnect for the 2024 GMC Sierra Denali 1500. The electronic parking brake requires the battery to be disconnected while flat towing. GM should have made the vehicle software to not apply the brake when in Tow-mode, this makes it easy to accomplish removing battery power. I mounted the solenoid inside the passenger front quarter panel near the battery to keep the power cables as short as possible. The solenoid must be installed in the vertical position. I chose to mount the actuator button inside just above the OBD-II port under the steering column. Easy access from the driver seat but not visible or in a place that could be accidentally pushed. If you frequently flat tow the GMC/Chevy with electronic parking brakes, this is a must have!

i tried other types over the years, this does cost a little more but it works great, this is the 3 one i have install and on the next car i will only use this from roadmaster the best disconnect hands down...

by:

The battery disconnect installation instructions were clear and the installation went well in my 2018 Chevrolet Colorado ... in spite of the kit missing a few pieces like a second star washer for connecting the two battery cables and the second piece of protective tubing. I covered the exposed energized solenoid terminals with electrical tape to prevent an potential inadvertent short in the future when working under the hood. Works as designed so far.

I towed the Colorado from Maine to Arizona last winter and the battery disconnect worked well for the entire trip. It made preparing the truck for towing and driving very easy!

by:

I received the Roadmaster remote battery disconnect in a timely manner and had it installed in my 2016 Chevy Colorado by a local RV dealer. I used it for the first time this week and it worked like a charm. I didn't lose any of my preset radio stations or any other data that I know of. Pushing a button on the dash is a lot easier than disconnecting and reconnecting battery cables.

Still working just fine.

by:

This disconnect switch is heavy duty and is very simple to install.

by:

The battery disconnect was exactly what I needed for my new truck. Shipped quickly and arrived early.

by:

The RM-766 is a solid piece of hardware and comes with absolutely everything required for the install, right down to the "Tow" and "Drive" stickers for the switch. I use it to disconnect the battery in my 2016 Ford Edge 3.5L AWD, to help make it flat towable behind my RV. It works great and I do not have to open the hood and mess with battery cables while travelling. I like it.

There have been absolutely zero problems with this switch so far. Works like a charm.

by:

This was very easy to install on my 2022 GMC Canyon. I installed the button on the side of the dash, between the driver door and dash side. This way it is hidden out of view. I did the installation this way to avoid any modification to the lower dash support panel.

by:

The best customer service. The really know all about rv accessories

by:

The first one was damaged in shipping and they sent a new one out as soon as I called at no cost to me! Great customer service! If you follow the directions it’s a fairly simple installation. It works great. One note of caution the actual plug on the disconnect buttons can be inserted two ways but will only work one way.

Battery disconnect was bad. Waiting on replacement for 5 days now.

I checked with Roadmaster and I know that they are working on a replacement for you.

by:

The battery disconnect works flawlessly and makes hooking up the towed vehicle so simple. Highly recommend!

by:

Overall an easy 5 star rating. I read the instructions multiple times and still managed to hook up the cables backwards. Switched them and everything works fine. I really appreciated everything that you would possibly need being included - instructions said to bolt the unit in place but it worked out better for me to use the INCLUDED self tapping metal screws. Shrink wrap, protective cable looms, zip ties - you name it and it's in the box.

I installed this in my 2022 Chevy Colorado which requires the battery to be disconnected before flat towing.

by:

I have a 2014 Silverado that I wanted to tow with my RV. In order to tow GM calls for the battery to be disconnected. This was the only product that I fond that would do what I wanted. It is slightly over priced in my opinion but it does the job. I have attached it to my aftermarket air box and ran the switch under the hood release. This way I can use the remote to unlock the doors when I am ready to unhook.

by:

Another excellent product for the right price. Fast shipping and excellent service. Thanks.

by:

This product works great for our 2018 Ford Explorer. It works perfectly for our application and allows us to easily disconnect the vehicle battery when we are preparing to tow the Explorer.

by:

Excellent product. Good instructions. Works perfectly after a full year.

by:

by:

Great description and product arrived by date promised.

by:

works great and the instructions were easy to follow

by:

Ordering went well.

  • What Battery Post to Disconnect on 2020 GMC Sierra 1500 With Roadmaster Automatic Battery Disconnect
You do need to disconnect the positive terminal on your 2020 GMC Sierra 1500 when using the Roadmaster Automatic Battery Disconnect with Switch # RM-766. The reason why is that disconnecting the negative battery cable, the truck's chassis ground is removed, which means the wiring and brake system lose the ground at your GMC and would need to be grounded via the motorhome chassis. This would be very problematic so you will want to disconnect the positive terminal when using the Roadmaster...

  • Does The 2022 Chevy Colorado Need To Be Placed In ACC Mode To Flat Tow
When flat towing a vehicle you do not want your steering wheel to lock as this would cause your tires to drag any time you try to turn while towing. Placing your 2022 Chevy Colorado's transmission in neutral and then placing the ignition into ACC mode is not a step you can ignore. Failure to follow the steps listed in your owner's manual will result in damage to your transmission and/or more and likely not be covered under any manufacturer warranty. • Why Does Battery of 2017 Ford Focus Need to be Disconnected to Flat Tow
The reason a vehicle has to have the battery disconnected when being flat towed like with your Ford Focus is that the ignition has to be in a specific position for the steering wheel to unlock which turns on several circuits which would drain the battery of the tow vehicle if it was left on. So the solution is to disconnect the battery so that you can unlock the steering wheel without draining it. That what's nice about the Roadmaster Automatic Battery Disconnect # RM-766 is that it does...
