Why Does Battery of 2017 Ford Focus Need to be Disconnected to Flat Tow

Question:

Continued from my last question would be why not install a battery charger rather than a disconnect?

The reason a vehicle has to have the battery disconnected when being flat towed like with your Ford Focus is that the ignition has to be in a specific position for the steering wheel to unlock which turns on several circuits which would drain the battery of the tow vehicle if it was left on.

So the solution is to disconnect the battery so that you can unlock the steering wheel without draining it. That what's nice about the Roadmaster Automatic Battery Disconnect # RM-766 is that it does this for you easily.

I attached an install video for this kit on a similar 2014 Ford Focus for you to check out as well.

The # RM-766 actually does have a battery charger built into it.
