Hello, everybody. This is Jeff at etrailier.com. Today we're going to take a look at the replacement breakaway switch for the Roadmaster supplemental braking systems. This is for a quantity of one switch. Now this will replace the breakaway switch on your Roadmaster supplemental braking system. And basically what the breakaway switch is.
It's a safety requirement. When you're flat towing a vehicle behind your motor home it'll prevent a runaway situation. If the tow vehicle would ever come detached from the motor home. Basically, this switch is wired into your supplemental braking system and it installs to the front of the towed vehicle. And then there'll be a breakaway cable.
Now the breakaway cable is not included. We do sell that separately. If you already have one, you can use that but that cable would attach to this pin and then it installs to the motor home. So what happens is if that car ever becomes detached from the motor home, that cable will be stretched. And it pulls that pin out of the switch which will then activate the brakes on the tow vehicle to stop the runaway situation.
This is designed to work with the BrakeMaster systems, the EvenBrake systems and the InvisiBrake systems. Does include everything shown here. Includes the breakaway switch itself. The mounting bolt and a nice set of detailed instructions that'll describe how this installs and operates. My experience with etrailer was good from the perspective of the cooperation and pleasantness. However, even though I was clear on the tow bar I had (Blue Ox) and the vehicle I was towing (2005 Dodge Dakota) when the tow package came and the shop I had installing it got to the end of the installation, it was discovered that the wrong pins were sent, i.e. they wouldn't lock in place - too short . At first we couldn't determine what the problem was, so I called etrailer back. Was told those were the correct pins. Finally called Blue Ox directly and the rep immediately told me (after I gave him the PN) that those were the wrong pins. Without me asking he offered and did send two replacement pins free of charge. They worked perfectly.

I had purchased and had installed the Roadmaster Brake Pro system on my '00 Nissan Frontier about 10 years ago. I recently traded that vehicle in for a '12 Frontier, but before I did that, I removed the Brake Pro and tow hitch components. I installed all of these components on my new truck, but found that the orginal breakaway switch no longer worked reliably. Roadmaster doesn't sell repair components directly to consumers, but a web search led me to etrailer. The component that they provided was easy to install as a replacement and works perfectly.

Worked and installed easily per the directions. Wired it up through a flat-4 trailer-type connector, along with power, to the Roadmaster ICX transmitter unit--makes for easy install/removal.

This replaces my original unit for Even Brake. Old unit mounted under front bumper corroded and shorted causing my brakes to lock up. These should be inspected regularly.

- Even Brake Breakaway Switch Wiring to TransmitterThe # RM-650898 is designed to wire to the black and white wires of the transmitter you sent in a picture of. It's odd yours had the connector cut off though. Essentially the switch connects the two wires which will activate the trailers brakes so if you touch them together now they should lock up.
