Does The 2022 Chevy Colorado Need To Be Placed In ACC Mode To Flat Tow

Question:

You replied to a previous question. For a 2022 Chevrolet Colorado you only flat tow four-wheel-drive vehicles that have an N Neutral and a Four-Wheel Drive Low 4 n setting. Look for knob on the dashboard. This will most likely be the last position on the right of the knob and be an Ninch that will illuminate when placed in neutral. First apply the parking brake and start the engine. Then shift the transfer case to N Neutral. Verify that the vehicle is in N Neutral by shifting the transmission to R Reverse and then to D Drive. There should be no movement. With the engine off, leave the key in ACC/ACCESSORY to prevent the steering column from locking. My question is when I take the key out of my 2022 Colorado z71 trail boss the steering wheel doesn’t lock. Has there been some change because of supply change problems? I can turn my wheel manually from stop to stop with the key out. I plan to flat tow it soon and I don’t think I’ll need to leave it in acc.

When flat towing a vehicle you do not want your steering wheel to lock as this would cause your tires to drag any time you try to turn while towing. Placing your 2022 Chevy Colorado's transmission in neutral and then placing the ignition into ACC mode is not a step you can ignore. Failure to follow the steps listed in your owner's manual will result in damage to your transmission and/or more and likely not be covered under any manufacturer warranty.

Another step listed in the manual is to disconnect the battery before flat towing. If you want to make this as easy as flipping a switch then I recommend the Roadmaster Automatic Battery Disconnect with Switch for Towed Vehicle w/ Supplemental Braking System # RM-766.
