Why Does the Battery Need to be Disconnected to Flat Tow a Ford Edge

Question:

The owners manual says to disconnect the battery when towing 4 down. Why? Is there a way to two without disconnecting the battery? The similar Lincoln model does not require the battery to be disconnected. Why not?

Generally speaking, when the owner's manual calls for the battery to be disconnected it is because certain features need to be disabled so they do not draw power from the battery and drain it. If you need to know exactly which feature(s) that is then you would need to contact your local dealer as I would not be able to say for certain what those feature(s) are. I also cannot recommend going against the owner's manual in any way which includes not disconnecting the battery.

If you would like for a way to easily disconnect the battery then I recommend the Roadmaster Automatic Battery Disconnect with Switch part # RM-766. The switch can be mounted in the vehicle so you do not even need to pop the hood each time you want to tow or drive the vehicle.

I have attached a video of this installed on a similar 2017 Ford Edge for you as well.
