Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we take a look at the replacement brake shoes for the 10 inch by two and a quarter inch Demco/Dico free backing hydraulic brakes. Now these are replacement brake shoes that'll work on the Demco/Dico free backing hydraulic brake assemblies. Fits the Demco and Dico 10 an inch by two and a quarter inch free backing brake assemblies, part number 40715 and part number 40716. This includes two pads. It's good for one brake assembly.
So I think it will work on either the both, either the left or the right side assemblies. Now I wanna mention they do look different because this one here is a fall away shoe. But basically free backing brake assemblies are used on trailer surge brake systems where the trailer brakes are applied. The trailer surges forward and then the brakes are applied when you're going forward, and they will not fully apply when you're going in reverse. That's because of this fall away shoe.
This fall away brake shoe will only anchor on the drum when the brakes are engaged and you're going forward. When you go into reverse, it'll give you limited friction when the trailer's moving in reverse. So that's why these shoes look a little different 'cause of this fall away shoe right here. Now when we mention the size it fits it's 10 inch by two and a quarter inch. The 10 inch size would be when these are mounted onto the backing plates.
They will measure 10 inches across diameter and then the two and a quarter is the width of the pad that's on the brake shoe. But that should do it for the review on the replacement brake shoes for the 10 inch by two and a quarter inch Demco/Dico free backing hydraulic brakes.
