This trailer brake assembly acts as part of your trailer's hydraulic braking system. A hydraulic trailer brake actuator is required for this brake to function.


Thoroughly Tested for Safety

This brake assembly meets the requirements for certification by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA). The CSA creates standards, which when complied with ensure a safe and quality product. This brake assembly underwent extensive testing to measure stopping distances when braking. Automotive-Grade Friction Material

Each shoe on this brake assembly is lined with automotive-grade friction material for improved stopping performance and longevity. The friction material is fully bonded onto the surface of the brake shoe. This lining is custom-molded for a perfect fit. The edges are tapered to ensure long-lasting performance. This taper, along with the circular grinding that the lining undergoes, helps to prevent cracking and crumbling. Today we're going to take a look at the 10 inch uni-servo hydraulic trailer brake assembly for 3,500 pound axles. This is the left hand, driver's side assembly and has the DACROMET finish to it. Now this hydraulic drum brake assembly is designed for use with your surge type trailer brake actuators. This one happens to have the DACROMET coating on it which is used a lot in marine applications and the reason they do that is it provides superior corrosion resistance for freshwater or saltwater use. The uni-servo design is the single plunger design. This type of design will deliver about 20% braking in reverse so it doesn't totally lock up your brakes, it will still give you about 20% braking. Now the size on the braking is always listed as a 10 inch or in this case is a 10 inch my 2 and a quarter inch, and this is the left had driver assembly and basically when they say 10 inch by 2 and a quarter what they are telling you is the 10 inch is the diameter from edge to edge, shoe to shoe.

If we put a ruler on that edge to edge you can see 10 inches and then the 2 and quarter is meaning the width of the shoe, the pad, 2 and a quarter inches, so 10 by 2 quarter inch. This is the left hand side and you can usually see the sticker will say left hand or right hand, but just a little tip by chance if there is no sticker on it and you have to determine what side this would go on. The easiest thing to do is look at the size of the shoe. If you look at this shoe, it's smaller and this shoe is larger. The smaller shoe, which is the primary shoe, that will always face the front of the trailer. If this is the smaller one facing the front of the trailer and puts it in this position you can see that this is the left hand, driver side assembly. Now these brake shoes are lined with an automotive grad friction material, this friction material is fully bonded to the shoe it's not riveted.

Gives you a longer life, more braking torque. Also they taper the edges on the lining and they do a circular grinding on it to prevent cracking and crumbling that can lead to mechanical lock up. This is a manual adjustable break, you can see the gear on here to adjust it. That does mean that it requires periodic manual adjustment. Nice thing on this, is the gear that's used to adjust it is a fine tooth gear and that will allow for more precise setting and there is no break-in period needed for following your initial adjustment. The way you adjust them, you see your gear down here The way to access that when they're installed is you go to the back of the brake assembly and at the very bottom there is two access holes.

What's nice about this, you can see there's rubber plugs in here and the plugs are included with this brake assembly, lot of brake assemblies will just leave open holes and you really don't want to do that because dirt can go up in there and cause problems. These come with the adjuster plugs already in there. To adjust it you just pop out one of these plugs, put your tool through the hole, attach it, fine the gear there. Turn the gear in or out whichever is needed to adjust your breaks. Also just to mention to you, if you notice the mounting bolts they are also included on the brake assembly here so you can see it is designed to fit a four hole brake mounting flange. Now the nuts and the lock washers used to hold this on to the brake mounting flange, those are sold separately on our website.

We do list them on this product page as a related product. Now this whole assembly is certified by USSAE standards and CSA which is the Canadian standards. Again, the size, 10 inch by 2 and a quarter inch. Axle this fits on is 3,500 pound axle and this assembly is designed to use 10 inch brake drums. That should do it for the review of the 10 inch uni-servo hydraulic brake assembly for 3,500 pound axles. This is the left hand, driver's side assembly with the DACROMET finish.

Prompt service is much appreciated. Brakes came nicely packaged to prevent transit damage. Product looks to be be well made but I'm putting them on the shelf. Brakes aren't required so I converted the trailer back to brakeless. With 4 boat ramps within 10 miles brakes aren't worth the hassle. I did use the spindle seal set (15123 Inner Bearing & 1.980t Or 1.938 Bb) which fit perfect.

Simple installation and better design on the 4 bolts that attach to the axle plate. I had to reuse the nuts from the old plate but this is a good recycle option. 10 minutes per side to install. Shoes are good quality. I recommend this product.

Trailer brakes are working fine. There is a marked improvement in braking power. The trailer stops much sooner now.

Simple swap out. Make sure that you order new hardware and inspect the master cylinder prior to ordering.

I needed to replace the brake shoes and cylinders on my hydraulic trailer brakes. Replacing the whole unit was a much better and easier way to go. I am happy with the results so far.

Great product at a great price. Installation is very easy and they perform great. Only leaving 4 stars because they do not come with all the hardware. The locking nuts or nut/locking washer are not included. Adjusting the brakes was very easy as well.
