Video Transcript for Kodiak Tires and Wheels K12WB169 Review

Today we're going to take a look at the Kodiak replacement drive-in trailer hub wheel stud. This one is a 1/2 inch diameter by 1-11/16 in length. It's a quantity of one. This 1/2 inch stud is designed to replace a damaged wheel stud on your trailer hub. The raised spline portion right here of the stud is what will be driven or pressed into your trailer hub. This stud is what will go through the bolt hole on your trailer wheel, and when used with a wheel lug nut will hold your tire and wheel to your axle. These are stamped as a grade eight bolt.

The thread size diameter is 1/2 inch, 20 threads per inch. It does use a standard 1/2 inch by 20 lug nut size. I did happen to pull one of those lug nuts, just to show you. Basically, once this is on your trailer hub, you just use this. Once you put your wheel on, use your lug nut to tighten down and torque it to the correct specs to hold your tire and wheel assembly to your trailer. The overall length, which will be measured from the bottom of the head to the end of the bolt; if we put a ruler on that, it's going to be about 1-11/16 inch.

The threaded length, just the threaded portion, is about 1-1/8 inches. Then the spline diameter, which is this portion here, is 0.54 inches. That should do it for the review on the Kodiak replacement drive-in trailer hub wheel stub, 1/2 inch diameter by 1-11/16 in length, for a quantity of one.

Replaced some rusted studs on a motorcycle trailer, so decided to do all five. They appear to be an almost perfect fit. Took some effort to pull them into the splines, they're not going anywhere. I put a dab of blue locktite just in case.
The reason I said almost perfect was they might be 1/16" shorter than the original. I never thought it would be an issue but they just make it flush to the outside of the lug nuts. I'd rather err on the side of too long than just short. Otherwise I'd think they're perfect.
BYW: I wasted $[XX] on a tool to seat the studs from Amazon. It's a cone shaped device with bearings so it turns and holds the lug nuts. The problem is it added enough thickness that I couldn't start the nuts. I ended up just using a lug nut with the flat side on the hub.

I ruined the wheel, lugs and lug nuts on my utility trailer by letting the lug nuts get loose. Information on the eTrailer website made it easy to identify the replacement parts I needed. The parts came three days after I placed my order even though I did not specify expedited shipping. Assembly was easy, especially after watching an instructional video on the eTrailer.com website. I am very pleased with the entire transaction.

The question if the K12WB169 will work with the AKIHUB-440-2-1K trailer hub assembly could not be answered, when I inquired. The answer is yes! The 2" studs that came with the hub was about 1/4" to long for my trailer setup. The K12WB169 pressed in perfectly and the right length. With all the confusing research that I have done, I made the right choice.
I am in the process of upgrading my trailer for off road uses.

by:

Perfect replacement for Ezlube 3500lb axles, after it forgot to tightened my lug nut and ruined the old wheel studs. Pound in to set them, the used a washer and backwards lug nut to pull the stud all the way in. Took 5 minutes to do the one wheel!

by:

Found exactly what I needed. Was concerned about ordering parts online due to not having trailer model number etc. but etrailers descriptions made it possible for me to exactly match what I needed!

by:

Not much to say. It's a lug stud that was hard to find, specific to a boat trailer. Service was great. Delivery was timely, and shipping was very fair, in fact it was significantly cheaper than the only other site in which I found this item.

by:

  • Trailer Hub Wheel Studs Are Too Large to Fit in Hub
On wheel stud # RG03-040 the threaded part is 1/2 inch. The larger part (spline) is larger because it has to be a tight fit in the hub. You have to drive it in from the back of the hub. Once it is in it should not come out unless driven out with the proper tools. If the spline is too large to even drive in you could go with something slightly smaller like # K12WB169. The spline on it is just over half an inch (0.545 inches). You also have to make sure you get the proper length. A stud...

  • Does Pilot Hole Size Matter With Lug-Centric Hub?
If you have a lug-centric hub then the fact that the pilot hole has a diameter that is 1/4" larger is not going to cause the studs to break. There are a number of potential reasons that your wheel studs are breaking such as they are torqued incorrectly (either too tight or too loose) or that they are simply the wrong studs. The larger pilot diameter on a lug-centric wheel is not going to be a reason, however. I have linked our selection of wheel studs for you to take a look at should you...
