Does Pilot Hole Size Matter With Lug-Centric Hub?

Question:

We have a trailer that the pilot hole is a good 1/4 inch bigger than hub and is lug nut centered like I read in one of your answers but we keep braking studs and are told because the pilot hole Bose nit match and the studs cant carry the load that is what the hub should be

If you have a lug-centric hub then the fact that the pilot hole has a diameter that is 1/4" larger is not going to cause the studs to break. There are a number of potential reasons that your wheel studs are breaking such as they are torqued incorrectly (either too tight or too loose) or that they are simply the wrong studs. The larger pilot diameter on a lug-centric wheel is not going to be a reason, however. I have linked our selection of wheel studs for you to take a look at should you need replacements.
