this product help keep all things in order and I have not had any issues with wiring

Roy

1/22/2018

I had to upgrade my fifth wheel to a motorhome do to my wifes disability how ever every thing worked out just fine fo the short time I used it.

by:

Watch how you wire this up but once I started following the directions it worked perfectly. Would have liked a better waterproof box for wires but seems to holding up to the water.

by:

Would not recommend this package at all. The main cable (vehicle 7 prong cable) had all the wires miss attached, IE the brown was not the running light but the constant, yellow was constant etc, the only wire hooked up correctly was the white ground.

So during installation I assumed the harness would be correct, hooked up to my truck and not have a massive short in my truck due to the improper back feeding and drain. I had to bring another vehicle up and trace every wire individually with a test light to wire the trailer correctly. Good news, after 5 hours I was able to rewire my trailer, bad news I no longer have a truck to tow it with due to the short. I can not even begin to imagine the undertaking of now having to find the short in my truck.

Would recommend against purchasing this product at all costs, you're better off building one on your own harness which I guess I should have done!

I can't say enough good things about the staff at etrailer. They helped me pick out the correct items to install disc brakes on my boat trailer and the technical staff was extremely helpful in helping me better understand how to perform the installation. This was the first time I ever install a new brake system and their help enabled me to easily and successfully complete the installation. A+ for the product quality and for etrailer staff!

by:

The color coding on the wiring block does not match the wires in the pigtail …. Be sure to test when plugged into your vehicle

Everything I have purchased from you had been the highest of quality. Very quick delivery. I rebuilt my boat trailer with your part and I couldn't be happier

  • Does Trailer Wiring 7-Way Upgrade Kit # HS381-9000 Come with Ring Terminals
Actually the Trailer Wiring 7-Way Upgrade Kit # HS381-9000 that you referenced comes with the needed ring terminals so you would not need to provide any. The two sizes though are 3/8 and 3/16.

  • Junction Box and Connector for Trailer Wiring
I have attached a diagram of the standard 7-way wiring hook up for 5th wheel, travel trailers, and campers. This should help you to identify which wires should be running what function on your trailer. To be completely sure which wire is which you'll need to test each circuit to identify their individual functions. You'll need to use a power source, like a car battery then put the ground to the negative and each of the other wires to the positive one by one. Whatever function activates...

  • How to Wire a Car Dolly for Electric Brakes
If you will be adding electric drum brakes to your car dolly then you will need to install a 7-way trailer connector. For this, I recommend using the Trailer Wiring 7-Way Upgrade Kit part # HS381-9000. I have attached a photo which displays how the wires will need to be ran on the trailer connector. In addition to the new trailer wiring harness you will also need braking assemblies, hubs/drums, a breakaway kit, and a brake controller. If you would like for me to recommend any of these...

For what you are looking for the standard solution that is tried and true is to install a vehicle battery in the trailer to power the lighting of your trailer. What you'll want to do for the trailer wiring is install the junction box 7-way kit # HS381-9000 this is specifically designed for upgrading a trailer like yours from a 4-way to a 7-way. If you check out the picture I attached you'll see what the junction box does basically. The ring terminals on the bottom side of the posts are...

  • Connecting a Vehicle with a 7-Way Trailer Connector to a Trailer with a 6-Way
Replacing the 7-way connector on the trailer is the best route. This way you'll know exactly how it's wired. I recommend testing each wire by connecting it to a 12 volt battery as you're making the connections. It also may be easier to make the connections using a junction box and out # HS381-9000 kit.

The best option for rewiring a trailer is the 7-way junction box kit part # HS381-9000. You'll mount the box on the frame rail (or wherever works best) and then run the wires for all of the individual circuits to it and you'd be set.

  • How To Wire a 7-Way Trailer Plug To A Vehicle With 6 Wires
I am not sure which side you are referring to, the vehicle or trailer but regardless you will need to test the wires for function instead of color matching. In order to do this on the trailer side you will need to apply 12 volt power to each wire and see which light it illuminates. In order to do this for the vehicle side you will need test each wire with a circuit tester while applying the respective signals in the tow vehicle. • How to Adapter 5-Pin Round Trailer Connector to 7-way Connector on Tow Vehicle
The 5-pin round connector is kind of an oddball that isn't often used as a trailer connector, therefore there isn't an adapter available. Honestly, your best bet would be to replace the existing 5-pin connector on your trailer with a 7-way, which would be pretty simple to do. You'd start by determining which circuit on your 5-pin serves which function. For the cleanest installation, I'd use a 7-way molded connector/ junction box like # HS381-9000 which allows you to make your wiring connections...

  • How To Replace a 4-Way Trailer Connector with a 7-Way Trailer Connector
The best option we have for you to upgrade the 4-way trailer connector on your trailer to a 7-way trailer connector is with the Trailer Wiring 7-Way Upgrade Kit part # HS381-9000. Once you have this all you need to do is run the wires from the trailer lights to the junction box and then from the junction box to the trailer connector. • Wire Function to Replace a Trailers 6-Way Connector with a 7-Way
Are you trying to replace a 6-way on a trailer with a 7-way connector, like part # HS381-9000? Traditionally, the white, brown, green, and yellow wires are as you listed them. Then the other 2 wires are for electric brakes and a 12 volt auxiliary circuit. However, wire coloring is not always standard and can be very unreliable. Instead I recommend testing each circuit for function. Use a 12 volt battery and connect the negative pole to a good ground and then connect each wire, one...

  • How To Wire Up the Trailer Wiring 7-Way Upgrade Kit
In regards to the Trailer Wiring 7-Way Upgrade Kit part # HS381-9000, the terminals are actually labeled for you so it does not matter what color the wires are used with the junction for either side, just be sure to match by function and not color which any experienced technician should know to do. I have attached the wire color function chart of the junction box below. This is actually a standard known as "RV" but most trailers nowadays use "Traditional" I'll admit. 12 Volt Power (Battery...

  • Is There an Adapter for Lance Truck Bed Camper to Standard 7-Way Trailer Connector
The older Lance truck bed campers use a proprietary plug and we don't have an adapter for this. We don't carry it but Lance does offer a matching vehicle side trailer connector for this but I recommend just converting the trailer connector on the camper to the standard 7-Way using the Trailer Wiring 7-Way Upgrade Kit part # HS381-9000. Please note, during installation you need to match wires by function, not color.

What you have is an adapter that goes from a 7-way blade connector to a 6-way square connector. A few pop up trailer manufacturers used it but unfortunately replacements can be hard to find. In my opinion you would be better off cutting the 6-way off of the trailer and just hardwiring in a 7-way connector and not deal with the adatper. The easiest and cleanest way to wire in the new 7-way is with a junction box. We have part # HS381-9000 that includes everything you need. I've also...

  • Easier Way to Wire in a 7-Way to a Trailer that Has 6-Way
The easiest way to upgrade a trailer to a 7-way or wire in a new 7-way would be with the 7-Way upgrade kit part # HS381-9000. The junction box mounts on the trailer and then all of the wiring then runs to the box and you're set. You wouldn't want or need to also run a 4-way harness to it as well. If a trailer needs the 7 circuits to function there wouldn't be a way to tow it with just a 4-way.
