Today we're going to take a look at the replacement trailer brake shoe and lining kit for the Dexter 12-1/4 inch electric brake assembly, and this one is for the right-hand passenger side. This will replace the shoes and the lining on one right-hand side 12-1/4 inch by 5 inch Dexter electric trailer brake assembly. Now this uses an automotive-grade friction material which is molded to the brake shoes. They are fully bonded, not riveted to the shoes, gives you a lot longer life, more braking torque. Also if you notice on the shoes, right up to the top here, they're stamped L on this one for left, and this one is R for right, and that's telling you what position these go on your brake assembly. Another way to tell that is if you look at the length of the pad on the shoe, the pad here goes all the way here to here, and this one goes from here to here. So this one here is the smaller shoe is the primary shoe.
That means this will always face the front of the trailer, so that'll also tell you the position of where the shoes go. Now this does include the two brake shoes with the lining, and these are designed to fit the Dexter 12-1/4 inch by 5 inch electric brake assemblies for 12,000 pound and 15,000 pound axles. Perfect! It is a OE replacement and is performing just as the originals did. Seems to be lasting just as long.
