2002 Mercedes-Benz ML500

This was the perfect hitch for my 2002 ML500. I did not need a higher load rating for this car and I wanted something that looked as close to a manufacturer install as possible. The dimensions of this hitch allowed for that. Only a small relief cut of the bumper cover was needed.

The installation was straightforward. The instruction video for the lighting module was helpful. However, I will say routing the power lead from the left rear taillight to the right front battery location is a bear if you want it to be well secured and hidden.

I recommend taking the time to clean up and lube the spare tire assembly. It will never be easier than when doing this install. I also suggest that cutting out the facia plate so that it can be used makes a huge difference in the final appearance. Trimming out the cut with some fuel line adds a finished look.

Thanks for a great product and a truly helpful website.

I purchased this guy for my move from LA to Chicago. Largest enclosed trailer U-Haul had to offer and attached it to my 04 Merc ML350. It worked flawlessly. Wiring came along with it which I decided to hire someone else to install. I'm very pleased with it. In fact, it's still on the car to this day and now aids as a magnificent barrier between cars behind me and my bumper. Highly highly recommend them!

Excellent hitch easy to install! A year old and still going strong I've pulled 18' boats, small boats, car dollies, trailers, etc with np.

Mercedes ML

Mercedes hitch installationAfter several web searches through my ML Blogs& advice from Engineers at work,
I was able to complete the task in 40min!
* took the bumper off by sliding it straight back after removing qty 4 screws
located behind 3 bumper covers
* inspected the hitch + instructions
* inspected holes on car bumper, making sure that there is no debris in holes
(used wd-40 in one to lube bolt in)
* installed hitch
* re-installed bumper
* took the longest time because it has to be aligned to the guides on each side
of the car
* center attachments also had to be carefully re-aligned due to the size of the
hitch
* two people is recommended for a faster re-install
Hope this helps future buyers...
I attached some pictures...thank you for the awesome product!

Easy to install and working great.
Is
very compact and doesn't stick out too much.
Pretty rusty too after one year.
Good overall hitch

by:

Super easy installation. I have towed my max weight and had no problem.1 year and no rust or deterioration of finish. Even though it is on a Mercedes Benz, I don't feel it has effected the performance, value or appearance.

  • Recommended Equipment to Tow a Boat Trailer with a 2002 Mercedes-Benz ML320
Out of the Draw-Tite # 75087 and Curt # 13018 Class III trailer hitches with 2" receivers I recommend going with the Draw-Tite for your 2002 Mercedes-Benz ML320. This is strictly because the Draw-Tite has a higher weight capacity meaning it is more durable. According to the online version of the owner's manual for your ML320 your vehicle can tow up to a 5,000 lb trailer. Since the Curt is only rated for 3,500 lbs this gives you all the more reason to go with the Draw-Tite. You will also...

  • Mounting Hole Distances For Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # 13018

  • What Size Are the Bolts Used to Mount the Curt 13018 Hitch
The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # 13018 uses M14 x 5.50 grade 8 bolts. There are replacement hardware kits available for the Curt # 13018 by putting that part number into the field marked "Hitch Item Number" on the page for the # RHK. I've also linked the instructions for this hitch that list the specs of the bolts and the washers.

  • Trailer Hitch for a 2016 Subaru Crosstrek for a Bike Rack
Trailer hitches are designed to fit specific vehicles. You will need one that was designed to mount to your 2016 Subaru Crosstrek. Hitch # 13018 will not work because it is designed for certain Mercedes vehicles. For hitches you have some options. You can use a Class I hitch, # DT24959. A Class I trailer hitch will be limited to 2 bikes at most and the bike rack will need to be Class I compatible. If you need to carry more than 2 bikes you can install a Class III hitch, # 76084, which...

  • Trailer Hitch Installation Recommendations for a 2003 to 2005 Mercedes M-Class ML350
Curt Trailer Hitch, # 13018 is designed to install without the additional brackets. I have included a link to the installation details for you. The hitches that install without the additional brackets are not rated for weight distribution systems. The brackets on the other hitches provide extra support for the added stress of higher capacities on the trailer hitch when weight distribution is being used. With any hitch installation, you will need to make sure you install all of the parts...

  • Determining the Location of the Transmission Return Line on a 1992 Pontiac Grand Prix
I am not sure of the exact transmission in your 1992 Pontiac Grand Prix, but from my research the location of the transmission return line on your transmission is the horizontal line leaving the transmission. You should be able to follow that line to either the top or bottom of your radiator. The easiest way to verify which line is the return line is by starting the car and putting it in drive for a few minutes. The cooler of the two lines will be the return line. If you can tell me...

  • Hitch, Wiring and Ball Mount Recommendations for a 2002 Mercedes M Class
You are on the right track. The first thing you will need to tow a trailer with your 2002 Mercedes Benz M Class is a hitch like the Curt hitch part # 13018. Since you plan on doing some towing you might be interested in etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop. It also includes a 1-7/8 inch ball, 2 inch ball, hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag. If the ball mount kit does not...

  • Availability Of Trailer Hitch Receiver To Bolt To Custom Bumper On 1989 Land Rover Defender
The closest option we have to the 3-1/2" x 2" bolt pattern you mentioned that your 1989 Land Rover Defender bumper has is the Curt # 13018 which has a mounting hole pattern that measures 2-1/4" x 3-1/4" as shown in the included diagram. The only option to get a trailer hitch receiver to fit your bumper would be to have a receiver like the # 325-GH-002 welded to a plate that is custom made and drilled to fit your mounting plate. A local fabrication shop could knock this out pretty easily. I...

  • What All Is Needed To Install The Curt 13018 Hitch On A 1999 Mercedes-Benz ML430
When installing the Curt # 13018 on your 1999 Mercedes ML430, you will need to remove the bumper fascia. However, this actually isn't as difficult as it sounds as it is just a few bolts and it's off. I included an install video from a different hitch that shows how quick and easy it is to remove as well. As to how far it will stick out from the bumper, I cannot say, unfortunately. We haven't had the chance to install one of these yet so I do not have this measurement, but I do have something...

  • Is Spacer Included With Curt 13018 Hitch Needed When Installing on 2001 Mercedes-Benz ML350
I spoke with my contact in the engineering department at Curt, who tells me that by 'outboard mounted spare tire', they mean that if the vehicle's spare tire carrier is bolted to the bumper beam, the spacer plate is needed. If it's bolted elsewhere, the spacer will not be needed. If you'll be towing with the hitch, you'll also need a trailer wiring harness like # C59496, a ball mount like # 2753 and a trailer ball like # 19260 for a 1-7/8 inch or # 63845 for a 2 inch ball.

  • Replacement Hardware Kit For Curt Hitch
Fortunately there is an easy solution to this issue. You need only to order the etrailer # RHK Replacement Hardware Kit. I have included a link to that product page. Just enter your hitch brand name (Curt) and the model number and we will ship you the correct hardware for your project. Our replacement hardware is rated for the enormous stress that hitches put on a vehicle unlike just getting something at the hardware store.

  • Trailer Hitch Fit for 2008 Mercedes-Ben ML320
The Curt # 13018 hitch you referenced only fits the Mercedes ML320 up through the 2002 model year. The rear structure of the vehicle changed between then and the 2008 model year, so the hitch unfortunately won't fit your vehicle, and it's not recommended that the hitch or vehicle be modified to make it fit. Curt does offer a hitch fit for your 2008 ML320, as long as it doesn't have the air ride suspension, you can use the # 13342 hitch.
