Today, we're going to take a look at the replacement trailer brake shoe and lining kit for the Dexter 12-1/4 inch electric brake assembly, and this is for the left-hand driver's side. Now these shoes will replace the shoes and lining on your one left-hand side 12-1/4 inch by 2-1/2 inch Dexter electric trailer brake assembly. This uses an automotive-grade friction material which is molded to the brake shoes, and since it's fully bonded, it's not riveted to the shoes. It gives you a lot longer life, more braking torque. Now the shoes are stamped right up here, left for left position, and R for right position. That's telling you what position these will go onto the brake assembly.
Another nice thing to help you with that is if you look at the size of the pad, the pad goes from here to here, and on this shoe, all the way from here to here. This is a longer pad, this is a shorter pad. The shorter pad is the primary shoe, and that also will always face the front of the trailer, so that will also let you know the position that goes on the brake assembly. Now this part does include the two brake shoes with the lining, and they are designed to fit the Dexter 12-1/4 inch by 2-1/2 inch brake assemblies with the cast backing plate for 7,200 pound axles.
