Could Winch Wiring Kit be Used to Charge Dump Trailer Battery

Question:

Followup to QA questions answered by Jameson C: Recommended Way to Actually Charge Dump Trailers Battery While Towedinch and Wiring Needed to Power Dump Trailer Directly From Truck Batteryinch by Leah S Ford 2007 V10 F350 Towing a Felling FT12DT Dump Trailer Problem: We have to trickle charge this dump trailer battery every night after using during day, only get 2-3 dumps a day before the deep cycle battery newly replaced gets drained. Fuses in truck that supply power to 7way plug are not blown as other forums suggest. Tried solar trickle chargers to help augment charge to dump battery, dont work. Heard that if your headlights arent on, power wont go to power in 7way plug to recharge battery. Noticed no change when we leave them on. My questions are A: Should we use this product to run a line back to our deep cycle battery? B: Or should we run this back directly to the pump? C: Do I need a battery isolator like part # TR118665 Like Mike L suggests in one of his posts? If so where does that get installed? D: Do I need a fuse for the system, what size and where is it preferred? Part #? I think this will cover it, thanks fro the assistance!

To actually put a decent charge on your battery throughout the day the answer is a heavier gauge charge wire like what the part # BDW20207 has. This will carry enough amperage to put a solid charge on the battery between dumps.

Normally this kit is used to power a winch but in your case it would work well.

I would run this to the battery and not the pump. If I were you I wouldn't want the alternator of my vehicle powering a dump trailer. So running this to the battery allows the battery of the trailer to do the work instead.

I wouldn't run an isolation solenoid on this either. I would just unplug it from the trailer when not needed. You shouldn't need a fuse or breaker either.
