Quick Disconnect Wiring Recommendation For Trailer-Mounted Pump Behind 2012 Ford F-150

Question:

I have a trailer with a diesel fuel vault with pump to fill our equipment on the farm. The vault came wired with a standard plug that fits into the hitch. The pump is 35 amp. We have a 2012 Ford F-150 with the factory trailer hitch. Would the factory wiring be enough to supply the fuel vault pump or should we upgrade the wiring? Do you sell the upgraded wiring kit? Thanks!

When you use the power wire on the harness at the rear of your 2012 Ford F-150, you may have some issues with it blowing fuses when you turn the diesel fuel vault pump on. Many times a pump or other accessories will have a power surge and that is too much for the harness designed for a trailer connection. It is not recommended to use the harness, but we may have a solution for you that will work.

I recommend the Trailer And Vehicle Wiring Kit, part # BDW20207. This kit has the vehicle side which will run from the rear of your truck up to the battery for power, and then the trailer side has a connector that will be wired to the vault pump.
