Video Transcript for Bulldog Winch Electric Winch BDW20206 Review

Today we're going to review part number BDW20206. This is the Bulldog winch wiring kit for the rear of a standard bed truck. Now this wiring kit will provide a power connection for your Bulldog winch to the rear of your vehicle. It is designed to fit most standard bed trucks. And if you can see, it actually includes 20 feet of both two-gauge power, right over here the red power. And the black ground wires with the looped ends.

It has the crimp connector attached. Now there are two connectors. One's already attached on the two wires, and the other one is here to choose to attache with these connectors to connect to the wire on your winch. Now these are 20 feet long, these are designed to attach these ends to your battery in your vehicle, and this one's to the back of your vehicle. Now it does include this dust cover, as you can see, since it's not connected to any connector, you put a dust cover in there to help protect it from the elements. When you're ready to connect it, you just pull the dust cover out.

Then you have your terminals right there. Now what you end up doing- that also comes with these cable ties that are used to secure these longer wires on your vehicle. Now what you'll do is take your two connector terminals right here and you'll run your wires from your winch into there. So you have your positive and negative wires from your winch. And then to attach these to this, what you'll want to do, is hold this up this way, and they sort of have a hook to them. There's a little hook right there.

With the hook pointing down, what you'll want to do is match up the positive from your winch wire into the positive one, just push it in there. If you push it in far enough, it'll just click into place. Same over here. It says negative. This should be attached to the negative wire.

Make sure the hook's pointing down, push it in, and it locks into place. Pretty simple to do. Then your wires from your winch will be in here and all you have to do is- these will be from your battery in your vehicle. You just push those together, just like that, and it gives you a nice weatherproof seal. Elements can't get to your terminals, and you have a good connection for your winch. When you want to unhook it, just pull them apart, and they pop right apart, and then put your dust cover in just like that to protect your terminals from the elements. That should do it for the review of part number BDW20206, the Bulldog winch wiring kit for the rear of a standard bed truck. .

Looks like a quality product as has been everything I have ever ordered from you guys!!

by:

Great product, easy to install, jumbo size zip ties, [could use a few more] I like how the dust cap snaps in, not just a piece of rubber that we all know falls out, the wire holding the dust cap could be about an inch longer to make it a little easier to remove and put on [no big deal]

by:

Another quality Bulldog product. Came with everything needed for a clean, straightforward installation and I like that it included an extra plug and necessary components which will enable me to easily fabricate a custom connection to my trailer winch. No janky, homemade wiring for my rig.

by:

Solid kit. Heavy duty wires that ran nicely along the frame. I recommend this product.

Wire kit works great. Ran the wire from the truck battery to the rear of the truck. Made a short connection cable to interface with the winch.

made an easy install and works great

A bit pricey, but convenient to install quickly.

  • Charging Dump Trailer Battery Recommendations
The CTEK 12-Volt Universal Battery Charger w/ Pulse Maintenance # CTEK56353 is a charger that you'd use when the trailer is parked. It plugs into a wall outlet and will charge your dump trailer battery all the way up quickly. It would not be a charger that could charge the trailer battery as the truck and trailer are travelling down the road. I attached a review video for the charger for you to check out as well. If you wanted to directly charge the winch off your truck battery then...

  • Using Electric Winch to Load Ice Fishing Shack onto Trailer
Either the Superwinch Terra # SW1135230 winch with its 3500 lb capacity or the Superwinch # 1120210 LT2000 winch (I am not clear about which one you have) should be able to handle your ice shack with no problem if you use a pulley block like # BDW20004. Using a pulley block can nearly double the winch capacity, which will be necessary because you will be pulling a dead weight up an incline. You would mount the winch offset to one side of the front of the trailer, and secure a heavy duty...

  • Charging Trailer Breakaway Battery and Winch Battery When Towing
The 12 volt accessory circuit of a 7-way can really only put a maintenance charge on a trailer battery that's large enough to power a winch and lights. What I would recommend is keep the breakaway battery charge setup through the 7-way since it's small enough to charge better and then for the winch battery use the winch charge kit part # BDW20206 which gives you 20 feet of 2 gauge wire that will run from the vehicle battery to the rear of the vehicle where it stops at a quick disconnect...

  • Does a Trailer Battery Need to Be Grounded If There Is No Charge Wire From the Tow Vehicle
The trailer battery does not need to be grounded if you are just using it to power a winch. If you were using the battery to power other items that were also ground to the trailer frame then you would need to ground the battery as well. That said, I think you will be surprised at how fast an electric winch can drain a trailer battery if you don't have it hooked up to charger. Therefore, I highly recommend you consider Redarc In-Vehicle BCDC Battery Charger part # 331-BCDC1225D which will...

  • Can Spare 7-Way Trailer Connector Be Used To Attach Winch From Trailer to Vehicle
In order to bridge the connection for a winch between vehicle and trailer you'll need to use heavy duty connection points like those on the Bulldog Winch Rear Wiring Kit part # BDW20206. In regards to using a 7-way trailer connector, this will not work as they won't accept a wire large enough to be used with a winch.

  • Can an Electric Trailer Winch be Wired to Run Off of the Towing Vehicle Battery
Yes, you can wire your winch to run off of the truck battery. I have included a link to a help article that explains the methods you can use to wire the winch. You will want the section titled Wiring a Trailer-Mounted Winch and option 1. I have included the steps for you here as well. Rear of the vehicle 1. • Will the Superwinch S9000 Work on a Mounting Plate at the Rear Hitch Receiver of a 2012 Dodge Ram
The Superwinch S9000 Heavy Duty Recovery Winch is confirmed to work with the Hitch Mounted Winch Mounting Plate # BDW20155. In order to install the winch at the rear of your vehicle you will also need to install a wiring kit like # BDW20206 because the wiring located at your bumper is not nearly adequate for the amperage draw of a winch. This will also give you quick connect terminals to make installing and removing the winch easy.

This winch mount will make it easy to transfer the winch from the 2 inch front hitch to the 2 inch rear hitch of your Jeep Commander. • Pollack Single Wire Socket # PK11851
The # PK11851 Single Pole Round Pin Trailer Connector is designed to deliver power to a trailer. It's not grounded, because the battery on the tow vehicle is already grounded and trailer mounted equipment is usually grounded as well. The ground connection would typically be carried through an additional connector; depending on the piece of equipment you are supplying power to you might need to increase the ground wire gauge. If you need the connector to power a winch, you would be better...

The highest gauge wire a 7-Way connector is compatible with is 10 gauge wire. A winch will use either 2 or 3 gauge wire for power.
