Video Transcript for Hopkins Wiring - Wiring Adapters - 47465 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at part number 47465. This is the Hopkins Adapter. This is going to adapt a 4-round plug on your vehicle to a 4-flat on your trailer. The distance that we have between the two plugs, that's going to give us a measurement of about 5 and one-quarter of an inch with the overall length measuring about 8 and three-quarters of an inch. It's going to come with a dust cap to protect the terminals when not connected here on the 4-flat connector side. It's got a nice easy grip design on it. That way you always disconnect that dust cap when you're ready to make your connections. Here on the center section it has some tape that goes around the wiring.

This is going to keep the wires bundled up. It's also going to keep its flexible design. It's going to allow it to maintain that flexibility. Here on each plug, see you get the finger tabs on this side which is just for easy grip design and you got the grips on this side. So, it's got the easy grip design that's going to allow for easier connecting and disconnecting.

The 4-way flat can be mounted using a mounting bracket. Those are going to be sold separately. You can see a few different options underneath the related items on this product's product page. That's going to do it for our review of part number 47465. This is the Hopkins Adapter. It's going to adapt a 4-way round plug on your vehicle to a 4-way flat on your trailer.

fits the plug perfect....just got a goldwing used, haven't had a chance to ensure it (the bike) was wired correctly for a trailer. no fault of the product, just wish its wireing was a bit long due to the way the plug was intigrated into the underside of the tour trunk.

by:

Works great! Took a few minutes to figure out the rv side and get it set up so the round RV part Correlated in the correct way to the standard four flat wiring. But it went smoothly.

by:

4 prong off. Doesn't fit!!

by:

Made connecting my utility trailer to 1978 Champion RV very easy. The ability to re-position the wires on the terminals at the round end to match the wiring on the RV made this the perfect adapter. Had it installed and operating in less than 30 minutes. Now I can take the bikes and other large items camping without blocking the walkway inside the RV.

by:

the 4 prong plug has holes that are too small for my male 4 prong. I wish that was part of the description.

It is very unusual for the four flat connector to be incompatible with your connector. Would you be able to send a picture? I know that it can take some elbow grease to connect the two.

ITEM DIDN'T FIT INTO ROUND SIDE ON RV (TOW VEHICLE)

by:

The adapter appears to be high quality. It fits as advertised in the original 4-round female location. I have not had a chance to use it for trailering yet, so cannot report on functionality.

After almost two years, the adapter is working great. Good fit, no problems.

by:

The ordering process was easy and delivery was timely. However, I must have ordered the wrong product as the round 4-pin male end did not fit into the 4-pin round receptacle. Therefore, the product is useless to me. I was unaware that there was not a standard size for this item. It has ended up in my junk drawer.

by:

We love the setup!

by:

This item is a perfect fit for my 4 way round motor home hitch socket wiring. I bought a new cargo trailer that has a four way flat. I did not want to change my tow vehicle plug. So with this adapter it makes life easier. I hooked it up and it works. I commented on some other products purchased from e trailer. Nothing but good to say and keep up the good work.

Thanks

Is there a adpter to convert a 4 pin round at trailer to a 4 pin flat conto hook at truck

We do not have an adapter in that exact configuration for you, but we do have the parts to make your own adapter. You could use the Pollack # PK11410 and the Hopkins Endurance 4-way Flat Trailer connector # HM48110. You would just wire the Hopkins 4-way flat to the Pollack 4-way round connection point.

by:

Product was wired incorrectly. I had to take it apart and rewire it to work. Should have just bought the pieces at the auto parts store and made it myself. Paid $20 something dollars for express shipping. Waste of money. Prior to this I have been extremely happy with all my purchases.

Keep in mind, 4-Pole rounds are often wired in different ways. They werent as thoroughly standardized as 4 flats or 7-ways.

by:

I thought I was ordering the proper application, but it is not correct.
No fault of etrailer, I just made the mistake, but I think I can do some wire cutting and splicing and have what I need.
Good people to work with, good shipping, just my mistake.

by:

Great product. I was trying to hook my utility trailer to my old k5 blazer and I needed an adapter to make the connection. So I got online and looks like I have a new place to buy trailer parts now. Arrived quickly and worked perfect. I would recommend George J trailer parts to my buddys.

by:

Product is perfect for its application (trailer electrical system connection). Arrived quickly and was cost-effective, as well. Well pleased with the entire transaction and would shop here again, as necessitated by my needs.

by:

Items is as described. I have a round four prong plug mounted on my truck but not all of my trailers have the round plug. Need this adaptor for my flat plugs.

by:

I cant really review the products I have purchased, which consisted of various adapters for towing trailers, however I can tell you this place/site is amazing, they offer a wide array of products from A to Z, all under one roof, perfect for one stop shopping...their prices are very competitive and the service is outstanding!

by:

Plug-and-play!
Fit our older 99 Hurricane
RV harness perfectly. Allowed us to adapt to a Haul trailer rig.

by:

Everything was as advertised, and thank you Kaylyn R for your wonderful customer service. It took awhile to get everything installed, because of crazy events in the past year, but it all works great!

by:

The product shipped right away and the customer service at etrailer is wonderful - they are knowledgeable and happy to assist. Thanks!

by:

Great piece and well built. Sadly to my not checking correctly, I bought it thinking it would fit what I had already and it doesn't. But If in a pinch, I have it.

by:

Not everyone carries this type of adapter. Glad etrailer does.

by:

Have purchased products over the last few years from etrailer, and have always been satisfied with the service and the products. Will purchase additional needed items, and would recommend etrailer to my family and friends.

by:

it works thanks

  • Adding a 5-Way Flat Trailer Connector to a 2003 Land Rover Discovery II
Since the 2003 Land Rover Discovery has a 4-Way round connector it is most likely already converted. There should be one pin for right turn/brake lights, one pin for left turn and brake lights, one pin for running lights, and one ground pin. You can use a circuit tester like # PTW2979 to confirm. We do have an adapter that connects to a 4-Way round but it has a 4-Way flat at the other end, # 47465 so you would need another adpater like # 20036. What I recommend is to replace the 4-Way...

  • Is the 4-way flat to 4-way Round # 47465 Compatible with with 4-Pole # PK11404 and # PK11410
I went and pulled the Adapter part # 47465, Pollak Heavy-Duty, 4-Pole, Round Pin Trailer Wiring Socket # PK11404 and Pollak Heavy-Duty, 4-Pole, Round Pin Socket # PK11410 to see if they were all compatible and I found that they were. The round 4-way of the # 47465 is compatible with both the # PK11404 and the # PK11410. Check out the video I attached where I show this.

  • Wiring Adapter to Mate 4-Pole Flat Vehicle Connector to 4-Pole Round
The easiest and least-costly solution for mating your wiring connectors is to replace the connector on your portable lights with a trailer-side 4-pole like # HM48110. This will allow your lights to be connected to the 4-pole on your vehicle. If you need to convert a 4-flat to a round 4-pole you can use either # ADP001 or # 47465. I have linked our main page for wiring adapters and you can use the filters on the page to select each type of connector you need to see available adapters....

  • 5 Pin Round to 4 Pole Flat Trailer Connector Adapter for Motorcycle Pulling a Trailer
Although we don't offer an adapter, you could construct one very easily. What does the 5th circuit from the 5 pin round connector on the bike power? I'm assuming that the circuits are ground, right turn, left turn, running lamps and brake lamps. Since the trailer you're wanting to tow has a 4 way flat trailer connector, presumably with a combined brake/turn signal taillight system, you'll need a taillight converter such as part # C56175. You'd wire the inputs from the converter to a 5...

  • Is There An Adapter To Connect Lights To A Round Trailer Connector On Cargo Light Kit, # 20174
It will depend on what you have as a normal round trailer connection on your vehicle. There is a 4 Round, 6 Round and a 7-Way Round connector. If you have a round 7-Way Round connector on your tow vehicle and you are wanting to connect the 4-flat connector on the cargo carrier light kit, # 20174, to it, you can use the Hopkins Heavy-Duty Trailer Coiled Wire Adapter for 7-Way to 4-Wire Flat, # HM47065. If you have a 4 round plug on your vehicle you can use the Hopkins Adapter 4 Round...

  • Is there an Adapter to Go from a 4-Way Round Connector to a 6-Way Round Connector to Flat Tow
We do have a 4-Way round adapter but it goes to a 4-Way flat, # 47465. You could cut off the 4-Way flat end and wire in a 6-Way, # PK11609 for the vehicle end or # PK11604 for the trailer end, however your flat towing set up is arranged. We also have coiled kit # RM-164 which will allow you to replace the 6-Way end on the vehicle with a 4-Way round.

  • 4-Way Flat to 4-Way Round Trailer Plug Wiring
It may seem odd to clarify, but we sometimes have customers describe things differently than we may. So if you are looking for the connector between a 4-way flat on your vehicle and the 4-way round connector a towed vehicle would plug into you simply would need the Custer Trailer Connector Adapter - 4-Way Round to 4-Way Flat # ADP001. If you needed a longer connector you can use # Adapter 4 Round to 4 Flat # 47465. If you are looking for a long trailer wiring umbilical cord, you would...

  • Using Magnetic tow Lights with 4-Way Round Connector with Towing Vehicle with 6-Way Round Receptacle
There isn't a 6-Way round to a 4-Way round adapter but there is an easy solution. You can just cut off the 4-Way round on the magnetic tow lights and mount a trailer side 6-Way round in its place, # PK11604. This is less costly than an adapter would be and it will create a direct connection rather than going through an adapter so it is more secure and reliable.

  • 4-Way Flat Male to 4-Way Round Female Adapter Recommendation
We do not have an adapter in that exact configuration for you, but we do have the parts to make your own adapter. You could use the Pollack # PK11410 and the Hopkins Endurance 4-way Flat Trailer connector # HM48110. You would just wire the Hopkins 4-way flat to the Pollack 4-way round connection point.

  • 4-Way Round Trailer Connection Much Smaller Than What I Can Find
I have never seen a connection like that for a 4-way. Regardless of the pin size the slot is internal to the plug on the connection point instead of external as on current 4-Pole Round Connector # PK11404. I recommend replacing the connection with a standard size round connector # PK11404 or converting to the more common 4-flat # HM48190. The Adapter 4 Round to 4 Flat # will use the standard 4 round size connector.

  • Does Hopkins Tow Bar Wiring have to be Unplugged for 2014 Honda CR-V Tail Lights to Work
You would not have to reverse the installation of Hopkins tow bar wiring harness # HM56304 for the vehicle lights to work on your 2014 Honda CR-V when it is not being flat towed. The harness plugs in line with the tail light wiring so when you are not connected to the RV the lights will function like normal. And when you are connected to the RV the lights will get power to function from the RV. The wiring harness isn't available with a 4-Way round connector but you could use adapter #...

To start, I don't think the Hopkins # HM40975 is going to accomplish what you're wanting to do without adding some extra parts since it's really just a socket without any wiring; I would instead recommend that you use the # ETBC7L since it comes with all of the wiring, relays, butt connectors, 4 way and 7 way connector, and will allow you to retain use of your 4 way round plug in the future. • Troubleshooting 4-Pole Round Trailer Connector Running Light Circuit not Working on Smart For Two
The problem with the 4-Way round connector is that there is no standard for how they are wired. Depending on how your Smart For Two is wired you may need additional diodes or specific wiring in order to get all of the functions...

You will be able to use any brake controller because they are not vehicle specific, but I recommend using a proportional controller instead of a time delay controller like the one you have referenced. I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Brake Controller...
