Rewiring Boat Trailer for 7-Way to Use LED Lights
Question:
There are a number of things you will need if you want to re-wire your boat trailer to use LED lights and you should start with the Epicord 7-Way Molded Trailer Plug with Junction Box # 277-000141. Keep in mind you will also need Ring Terminals # 44-5310A and Loom Clamps # A0500 The box is color coded like this: - White (ground): 10 gauge - Black (12V power): 10 gauge - Yellow (reverse/auxiliary): 14 gauge - Red (left turn and stop): 14 gauge - Green (tail and running lights): 14 gauge - Brown (right turn and stop): 14 gauge - Blue (brake): 12 gauge For LED lights I highly recommend checking out the LED Trailer Tail Light # STL57RB (Driver's side) and # STL56RB (Passenger's side). These are submersible lights with a total of 40 diodes and have mounting holes that are 2" center to center, which is standard for trailers. Then for back-up lights I strongly recommend the 22 diode GloLight LED Backup Light # BUL111CB which are surface mount but can be recessed mount with Grommet # A70GB. They do require a 2-prong pigtail # A45CB or # A49PB for a right-angle pigtail. You can see from the accompanying photo an example of these lights in action. For clearance lights a great option is the Optronics LED Clearance or Side Marker Light # MCL95RB (Red) or # MCL95AB (Amber) because they are waterproof lights that are easy to install because they use a single wire and ground through the mounting hardware. I've added links to video reviews for you to look at and also linked a help article on trailer wiring which is a great source of information.
