Upgrading Small Utility Trailer Incandescent Lights To LED Trailer Lights

Question:

Am replacing 2 of these on my small utility trailer. No license plate required. Originally have incandescent and broke one. My original wiring harness has the ground wire white is grounded to the tongue. These leds have a ground wire attached to the light itself. Is there any consequence if I ground these lights in addition to the existing ground? Also, the original harness kit has a brown and yellow wire on driver side. Is it safe to assume that I can go brown to brown and yellow to green? Thanks for your help.

I think you will be very happy with an upgrade in your lights to the LED Trailer Tail Light - 6 Function - Submersible - 18 Diodes - Rectangle - Red Lens - Passenger, # STL56RB and the # STL57RB for the driver side.

You can ground the lights independently to your trailer.

Many wiring harnesses have the brown and yellow combination like you mentioned and it is most likely the case that you can connect the brown to brown and yellow to green as you mentioned, however I can't say that it is a definite. Many times people have re-wired trailers for specific functions that would throw the traditional applications for a loop. You will want to check the function before splicing the new lights in.
