Solution for Overly Bouncy Trailer with Bias-Ply Tires

Question:

Can bias ply utility trailer tires be safely run at pressures somewhat less than what is on the sidewall? My 4.80-12 tires have a max load capacity of 765 lbs @ 60 psi. But the load on each tire is just under 300 lbs. Running at 60 psi has the trailer and boat bouncing all over the place and beats the $@#and out of the boat. Thanks for your help

Expert Reply:

You always want to run trailer tires at their max psi. Not only does that ensure that you get the full weight capacity, but it also prevents the tire from building too much heat which would cause the tire to fail.

A better option for you would be to go with a radial tire as they flex more than a bias-ply which would help with the bouncing you are experiencing. Since I don't know what size tire you have you would need to select your tire size from the filters on the page I attached to see what we offer.
