What PSI Should Trailer Tires be Inflated to
Question:
Your answer to correct trailer tire pressure is it should always be the MAXIMUM Cold Rating. Maxxis Tire reps state this is incorrect. Their tires should be inflated to the recommended pressure based on the tire size AND actual weight they are carrying. In my case, my E rated tire 80 psi max should be run at 50 psi because of the amount I am below the maximum weight. SO - who is correct? I really want to know as a 30 psi difference is a big deal. Attached is my correspondence with Maxxis and their weight chart. Actually, this is an industry-wide chart and is used on ALL certified ST Tires

Expert Reply:
If you have Maxxis or Goodyear tires you should follow their inflation charts as they are unique in the trailer tire world and don't always recommend the max tire pressure. All of the manufacturers we carry with the exception of Goodyear state to always run max for the trailer tire inflated when cold.
