I was too cheap to replace the entire axle assembly when my bearings failed and ruined the spindle. Welding in this new spindle saved me some cash and the trailer is as good as new. Ordered a new hub assembly along with this spindle and everything went together perfectly.

  • Replacement 3,500 lb Trailer Spindle that Fits In 2 inch Axle Tube
Spindles have to be welded onto a trailer axle by a pro with the correct jigs to allow it to have perfect alignment. That would be why you weren't able to simply insert the spindle.

  • Replacement Spindle Compatible with Tie Down Engineering 46210 Hubs
You have a standard 3500 lb axle, which uses a # 84 spindle compatible with a L68149 inner and an L44649 outer bearing. We offer a few replacement # 84 spindles with different stub diameters. • For an E-Z lube spindle with a brake flange and a 1-3/4 inch diameter stub, use # TRU74FR • For a standard spindle without the brake flange and a 2 inch diameter stub, use # TRU24FR

  • Availability of Brake Mounting Flange for Axle Spindle TRU24FR
We do, but we also have this spindle with the flange already welded on with the part # TRU74FR. Since the spindle part # TRU24FR normally fits a 2-3/8 inch diameter axle the correct flange would be the part # 4-35.

  • Is Brown Discoloration on 3,500 lb Trailer Spindle OK
Definitely smart to check, and you're right that the brownish discoloration on your 3,500 lb trailer spindle like # TRU24FR is perfectly normal. Just the discoloration won't be an issue, and you can leave it be as that is just caused by heat and grease. The only issue would be if it was grooved or nicked somehow, but since it's perfectly smooth like you said, then the spindle is fine.

  • Availability of Spindle that Would Fit Square Tube Axle
New spindles should be welded on only by a professional welder who has experience and the correct jigs for installing spindles perfectly straight and concentric. If not installed correctly the trailer may not track properly and uneven tire wear can occur. It might be more trouble than it's worth to try and fit a round spindle like the part # TRU24FR in a square tube axle by trimming it. We have a square version of this spindle as part # TRU47FR.

  • Availability Of 5 On 5-1/2 Hubs For A 5.2K Or 6K Axle
A #84 spindle is the standard 3,500 lb axle spindle. It uses an inner bearing L68149 (1.378" inner diameter), and an outer bearing L44649 (1.063" inner diameter). These days this is basically universal for 3,500 lb axles. What you have with your 25580 outer and LM67048 Inner bearings is either a 5,200 lb or 6,000 lb axle. The 6 on 5-1/2" bolt pattern and the 3" round tube also indicate a 5.2K or 6K axle. With your axle and bearing combination, there are not any hubs with a 5 on 5-1/2"...

  • Do I Need to Replace #84 Spindle With Rust On Surface and What Bearing Kit Do I Need
You should still be able to use your spindle without having to replace anything, especially because this is not in the seating areas for the bearings. Regardless, I recommend cleaning off the spindle with emery cloth to try to remove as much of the rust as possible. You'll want to take care to make sure that there is no pitting on the spindle that might damage the new bearings, which would be the only case that I recommend replacing the spindles. If you do end up needing to replace your...

  • Wide Trailer Tire Recommendation for Building Trailer that will be Used on Sand
The widest tire size we have is the 235/80-16 which has a section width of 9-1/4 inches. For a wheel and tire in that size with a trailer wheel that has a 6 on 5-1/2 inch bolt pattern you'd want the part # AM34834. So then to reverse engineer from there you'd want a 6 lug hub like the part # AKIHUB-655-35-K and then you'd want the 84 spindle like the TruRyde part # TRU24FR.

You are correct that the TruRyde #84 Spindle, like part # TRU24FR, which you reference, is a fit for your Dexter trailer hub and drum, part # 8-247-50. Please note the spindle has a 1750 lbs. capacity, so two spindles will give your axle a 3500 lbs. capacity. I would strongly recommend you take the axle to a qualified machine shop to have the appropriate welds done.

There is one hub that we carry that uses the LM67048 outer and L68149 Inner bearing. This is a hub and drum assembly # 8-407-5UC3-EZ. The only problem is the seal that comes with this is a 10-19 seal which has an inner diameter of 1.719". So this would not effectively seal your spindle. We would also have to put electric brakes on the axle in order to use that hub. This bearing combination is very uncommon these days. It may prove very difficult to find compatible hubs.
