Video Transcript for Brophy Long Shank Hitch Ball Review

Hello neighbors, it's Brad here at etrailer, and today we're taking a look at the Brophy Chrome-Plated Two Inch Hitch Ball. Our two inch ball here, looks nice and sharp, and also we have a one inch shank hole, so the diameter of the shank will fit perfectly on this Brophy hitch mount. We also have a shank length of 2-1/8 inches. Now it is chrome, so it is gonna resist that elements of towing and the rust and corrosion that can build up. Now, if you want to put a little grease over here, that's just gonna add a little bit more protection, keeping this chrome nice and shiny. And this is gonna work great with any ball mount that has a one inch diameter shank opening.

Now, I really do like the way this looks with the aluminum Brophy. Having them kind of matching, just kind of gives it that little extra nice look to it. Installation is gonna be extremely easy. We can simply remove the nut. We have a lock washer there, and we'll just put that in place.

And you can actually, you have spots here to put your wrench on top, and then when you tighten this down, you're gonna want to use a 1/2 inch torque wrench and adjust that torque to the specifications in the manufacturer's recommendations. Now, the only thing left to do is hook up to your trailer, cross up your safety chains here, plug in your wiring, and you can drop it in place and hit the road. You should have no problem pulling a boat or even a large camper, assuming that your coupler is two inch ball rated. And that was a look at the Brophy two inch hitch ball..

so far no issues and looks good with my aluminum tow bar on the back of my all white truck.

by:

Very positive experience with both Service and the product. Two thumbs up!

by:

Great quality!

by:

I think this is the best ball on the market, I understand that it is a bit pricey, however it is very nice quality.
Go get yourself one !!!

by:

Excellent/light-weight mount & ball. Fit is perfect on my new Jeep Cherokee with OEM receiver. Easily removed for storage in trunk; however, safe/secure to leave in place with self-locking mechanism.

by:

This is a very nice Ball but made in Ch ina.

by:

Stainless steel hitch balls are the best to use in the Gulf Coast area. Salt water, and the salty air are corrosive on these items. I have been using these stainless steel hitch balls for years now. These are good for under 7500 # trailers.

Outstanding product.

by:

This ball looks to be very good quality, with very nice workmanship. The load rating is 7000 pounds, which is another 1000 pounds more than my previous 2" ball

by:

Looks great, heavy duty, and stainless steel so no rust!

by:

Great hitch, light, strong and still looks like new after a years use.

by:

Nice ball. Does pick up some rust from trailer's mild steel hitch, but that wipes mostly off.

by:

I like the alum ball mounts that got from you guys the stainless 7.5 ball ,just cant beat it, and the receiver locks keeps all of the equipment safe and sound thank you so very much

its a great 2 inch ball no rust , light lube on the ball, its as good as day one, would order another for sure.

by:

Will work great! This way I don't have to deal with the chrome being chipped off the ball!

by:

I like that Brophy's stainless steel hitch ball has a very smooth finish. I also like that the lock washer & nut are stainless steel. Now I don't have to contend with rust.

Looks like new yet. No more rust. Love it !!!

by:

What can I say - it's a stainless steel hitch ball! At least it will look better on my truck than the rusty mess my old chromed ball turned into.

Still looking good after many uses

by:

This was part of an order I'll be returning once I get approval. The hitch was not a fit for my vehicle, so I'll be going for a different configuration. Since I haven't used it I've rated it neutral; still, this ball appears to be excellent quality.

by:

Looks good, fast shipping.

by:

The products bought were exactly what I expected with regards to quality. But what I appreciated most was the short amount of time it took to receive the items - very quick turn around from placing the order to receiving all of the items. I had emailed etrailer a couple of times, once to get the tracking number and another just to acknowledge receiving it and both times customer service replied right away - so kudos to George J and the customer service team.

by:

Very nice SS version of a 2 inch ball. I really like the polished finish vs. some of the other matte SS finishes. It matches a polished aluminum ball mount nicely. This is one of the only 7,500 lb rated 2 inch ball/1 inch shaft balls I could find. The only knock is that it is made in China, not the U.S., but you can't always get what you want. Etrailer was prompt with shipping. Please note the overall shaft length is 2 1/2 inches, which provides ample length even for 1 inch thick mounts typically found on aluminum mounts. This fact was not clear from the description, although it was buried in the Q and A. I will follow up once I've had a chance to put the product in service, which will be shortly.

by:

I got tired of the rusted mass of ball mount and ball sticking out the back of my brand new cat and ordered an Aluminum ball mount and this stainless ball. The new combinatino looks much better and should not rust like the old one.

Everything is as advertised and etrailer did a great job of getting it to me.

by:

The ball worked perfectly! I love it...! I needed one that had a smaller base so my trailer hitch would not get hung up on the old style large base. This ball fit perfectly! I love etrailer because they carry such a wide variety of parts...they’re my go too site for trailering stuff!!!!

by:

Upgraded to an F250 with a 3 inch hitch receiver. My old receiver was 2 inch. Ordered adapter, stainless ball and 3 inch locking pin. All delivered promptly and top quality!

by:

Perfect fit in my new hitch, not a bit of flex and appears solid. Very curious to see how many years I can get out of this stainless ball, since all the others I've ever had only last about 6-10 years before the mount rusts to hell and back.

by:

What is there to say about a trailer ball and ball mount? Many miles on it and the trailer hasn't fallen off. Never had any problems with any Curt product.

by:

The hitch looks brand new after a full year on the vehicle. Be sure to spend the extra $ to get the stainless ball as well. You won't be disappointed with the accessoires.

  • Recommended 2" Stainless Ball and Anti Rattle Device for the Flash Self-Locking Aluminum Ball Mount
The Brophy 2" Stainless Steel Hitch Ball part # SC23-C will work out great with the Flash Self-Locking Aluminum Ball Mount part # DTLBM8600. For an anti rattle for it use the Roadmaster Quiet Hitch for 2" Trailer Hitches part # RM-061 this is my go to anti rattle because it is very effective at keeping things secure. I've linked a video on it for you to check out.

  • Recommended Two Inch Hitch Ball To Use With Fastway Aluminum Ball Mount
The ball mount you referenced, part # DTLBM8200, has a hitch ball shank hole that measures 1 inch diameter and the platform measures 1 inch thick. After doing more research I found that the shank on the # SC23-C hitch ball is actually 2-1/8 inches long. The shank is considered a medium length on this hitch ball. A medium shank is considered between 2 and 3 inches. When installing a hitch ball, after the nut and washer have been installed, there should be at least one thread showing below...

Roadmaster High-Low Adapter # RM-048-6 is intended for use along with a Roadmaster tow bar like their BlackHawk 2 # RM-422 but is not rated for trailer towing, as you noted. Instead you'll want to use a ball mount with the same 6-inches of drop, such as 8K-rated aluminum ball mount # EA60 from Brophy. Be sure to use a hitch ball rated for the trailer's weight, such as 2-inch 7.5K ball # SC23-C. Please refer to the linked article and ball mount page.

  • Will Zinc Coated Nut Interact with Stainless Steel Brophy Hitch Ball
Honestly I don't have a good answer for that but it seems that as long as you won't be in saltwater you'll be fine. Galvanized steel and stainless steel normally won't become problematic together but if there's salt water you will see some corrosion develop. We haven't had any people come back and say the nut and washer created problems with the shank and ball of the # SC23-C either.

  • Ball Mount Recommendation for Use with etrailer hitch e78KR for 2007 Honda Element
The key when picking out a ball mount is to go with one that allows the trailer to be towed level. Without knowing the height of the coupler on your trailers I can't know what would work best, but I do have a solution that will work. The part # BWTS10038B is an adjustable ball mount that has two ball sizes. 2 inch hitch ball and a 1-7/8 inch hitch ball which would be what you'd most likely find on a smaller trailer. If you already have the Curt Ball mount, you will need to determine the...

  • Is Aluminum Ball Mount Compatible With Stainless Steel Hitch Ball For 2 Inch Hitch
Yes, you can absolutely use an aluminum ball mount with a stainless steel hitch ball without worry of the ball mount corroding. In fact, there are no aluminum hitch balls so manufacturers suggest the use of stainless steel as it is going to be the best option work in conjunction with an aluminum ball mount. So what you will need depends on the rise or drop your trailer requires: - 1" Rise, 2" Drop: Curt Ball Mount for 2" Hitches # C74WR - 3" Rise, 4" Drop: Curt Ball Mount for 2" Hitches...

  • Troubleshooting a Hitch Ball that is not Securing When Lowering a Trailer Coupler
There could be a couple reasons this could be happening. One being the hitch ball could be over-sized but I seem to think tightening the lock nut under the wedge will eliminate the need for you to manipulate your hitch ball into the secured position. To tighten the lock nut, make sure hitch ball is removed, and then push the wedge into the coupler and tighten the lock nut as needed. You may do this a few times until you get to your specifications. You could certainly get the hitch ball...
