Forged, Self-Latching Jaw

Self-Latching Jaw

The one-piece jaw on this fifth-wheel hitch provides absolute security with its wraparound design. Increased jaw-to-king-pin contact results in not only a stronger connection, but less noisy rattling and stiff chucking as well.

The jaw is also always ready to receive, so you don't need to use the handle to open it before backing up toward your trailer. As long as the bail pin is removed from the latching handle, the jaw will accept the king pin as it enters the hitch.

Finally, the jaw is self-latching, so it will automatically secure your trailer's king pin when it moves into the jaw.

Quiet, Comfortable Ride

Pivot Bushings

In addition to the tight jaw tolerance, a close connection between the head and the pivot bushings further reduces rattle and movement. And because the pivot bushings are independent from the head, they can be tightened to ensure a strong connection over time.

King Pin Indicator Prevents High Pinning

King Pin Indicator

This M5 hitch features a built-in king pin indicator to ensure proper hookup. This indicator is located on the back of the head along with a V-shaped notch that are both visible from the cab of your truck. The V-notch is lined up with the jaw at the front of the hitch, and can be used as a guiding point to line the king pin up with the jaw as you back up your truck. The jaw also has an internal plate that keeps the king pin from entering if it is too high to enter safely. As a result, the king pin indicator will only change from red to green if the king pin is fully engaged in the jaw.

Easy-to-Use Latching Handle

Lever and Hitch

This hitch's handle is designed for smooth motion and effortless operation. It requires only 2 fingers to use and won't bind up as you pull. In addition, the handle is long, so it's easy to access from outside of your truck bed. And the ergonomic grip makes it comfortable to hold and pull from different angles.

Tried to install this on a 2001 Chevy Silverado 3500, dual rear wheel, long bed, 4x4, diesel engine truck. The clamp style mounting simply does not work. The ONLY way I can see this working is by drilling added holes in the frame of the truck at the front end of the side plates. This is because of a bend in the frame at the clamp location. Also at this location the frame is boxed in and any bolt holes will be hidden. Bolts would have to fished in with bolt wires.

I see that you are stuck on some parts of this installation. I have gotten in contact with one of our technicians and they had mentioned that you should be able to find what you need in the instructions on page 5. https:www.reeseprod.comproduct-assetsinstallN30926.pdf

I am very pleased with my purchase of the Reese M5, a major improvement over my old receiver. Great service from etrailer as well.

Just received yesterday, will be having it installed on Monday and will be pulling my new camper home next Saturday. Will update afterwards with pics

Still works good, but every once in a while it dosent want to latch around the kingpin.

by:

Great quality, worked perfect and easy to use. I was so happy with it that I transferred it to my new vehicle. I would recommend this to a friend.

by:

I love it. It’s very easy for me to setup. The only issue i had was rge breakout away cable snapped in have and i was not able to find a replacement. I had a friend who was able to make me another one.

by:

Great product, shipped in really good time, etrailer was excellent in communication, only small problem was package was damaged in transit, and my item had some pretty bad scratches on it. But when I notified etrailer of this they gave me a choice of shipping it back in exchange for a new one or giving me a nice credit back if I could live with the scratches. I choose the latter and I thought it was great that they gave me the choice.

by:

I had to return this hitch as it was unusable due to manufacturing defects. etrailer honored the return and refunded me completely.

by:

by:

The order before I received this one, I do not understand why you would ship two products that would not work together although I ordered them wrong, with out letting me know before it was shipped. I didn't know that my order was wrong until I went to install it in my truck. It cost me time and money.

by:

Easy install, visual confirmation pin is locked into 5th Wheel, and no more chucking when pulling trailer.

by:

There where parts missing.

I see our customer service team is working on sending you the missing parts, but I am sorry you are having to go through all this when it should have all been delivered together. Thanks for giving us the chance to make it right.

by:

This went well also. Only thing that could have been better is the grease (lube) information. To this day, I still don't know what parts to lubricate or where or with what.

Well that would be some good information to know! I am getting that added to our site for future reference. You will need to use engine oil to lubricate pivot points of moving parts within the hitch.

by:

Great hitch. Easy to use and pulls my 40ft rig like a champion!

by:

Always polite and know exactly what you need for your application. Tim was a pleasure to work with.

by:

I've only just got it installed and as of yet have not tested it under load. Hope to pick-up and tow my RV back home this weekend. I will update My review when I return.

  • Recommendation to Give a Fifth Wheel Trailer and Hitch Additional Bed Rail Clearance
Many fifth wheel pin boxes are adjustable, check to make sure yours is in the lowest position so that you would have the better bed rail clearance. They say a minimum of 6 inches of clearance between the bed rails and the fifth wheel hitch is required. Usually between raising the hitch and lowering the pin box you can get enough clearance and still have your trailer tow level.

  • Troubleshooting Sway When Towing Fifth Wheel Trailer
First suggestion would be to stop towing the trailer till you figure out how to fix the sway issue as sway can sometimes flip vehicles/trailers. Sway with fifth wheel trailers is typically not very common when compared to bumper pull towing so when it is happening it's almost always due to suspension problems on the trailer. That would be the first thing I would check. Also make sure you aren't exceeding the towing capacity of your truck. If you are overloading the truck beyond what it...

  • Benefits of Fifth Wheel Hitch with 4 Way Pivoting Head vs. 2 Way Head
The answer to your question will depend on what kind of surfaces your tow vehicle will be parked on when you hitch/unhitch the trailer. If you are going to find yourself pretty consistently on level, even pavement, then a fifth wheel hitch whose head pivots forward and back will work fine for you. On the other hand, if you will hitch and unhitch on uneven ground on a regular basis, you will thank yourself for going with a hitch that has the 4 way pivoting head, like the Reese 5th Wheel...

  • What are the Pin Hole Dimensions on the Reese M5 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # RP30928
The mounting pin holes on the Reese Select Plus Fifth Wheel Hitch, # RP30928, measure front to back 21-15/16 inches center to center and side to side 20-5/8 inches center to center. This hitch is designed to fit all standard base rails. If you determine that this hitch will not fit your rails, then you will want to choose a hitch based on the brand of your base rails. If you can tell me the manufacturer of your rails, then I can make a hitch recommendation for you.

  • Recommended Clearance Between Bed Side Rails and Underside of Fifth Wheel Trailer Loft
Six inches is the minimum recommended clearance between the top of the bed sides and the underside of the trailer loft. If you're any closer than that, you stand the danger of the underside of the loft hitting the bed side during downhill turns. If you can adjust the head of your fifth wheel hitch up by one or two sets of bolt holes, you'll maximize your clearance. • Is a Longer or Shorter Wheelbase Better for Towing
I don't have any specific wheelbase measurements for you that is best but I can confirm that the longer wheelbase the truck has, the more stable the truck will be while towing. As a general rule, the vehicle's wheelbase should be at least half of the distance from the center of the trailer's rearmost axle to the center of the coupler. However, this is more of a conservative figure I will admit. The other thing to make note of when pulling a 5th wheel trailer is that you really want to have...

  • Can 5th Wheel Hitch Parts Wear Down and Affect Ride Quality
I've never heard of a 5th wheel hitch using fans, but it is possible for parts on a 5th wheel hitch to wear out over time and need to be replaced just like other equipment on your RV (suspension parts, awning, vent/AC just to name a few). Any parts that wear down can and will affect the performance of the hitch so it's possible that is why you have some chucking. Pretty much every 5th wheel hitch should have replacement parts available (even new ones like the Reese M5 # RP30928) because...

The M5 Series # RP30928 is height adjustable from 14-18 inches. The mounting rails for the hitch would add anywhere from 1-1/8 to 1-7/8 inches to the hitch height. According to my research, the height of your bed rails is 22.4 inches above the floor of the bed which means there's going to be an about 4 inch difference in height between your bed side and the skid plate on the fifth wheel. Whether or not this will be an issue will depend on the design of the pin box on your fifth wheel....

  • What is the Best Truck for Towing a 5th Wheel Trailer
To answer the last question first the key is to check the towing capacity of each truck you are interested in and make sure they are rated for the weight of the trailer when it is loaded and ready to tow. A 1 ton of any make should have no trouble towing the average 5th wheel trailer but just check the towing capacities to be certain. I do recommend a diesel since they are great for towing and last a long time, and a truck with an Allison transmission which is a good towing tranny. Changing...

  • How to Determine Maximum Towing Capacity of Ford F150
I'd be more likely to believe the owner's manual over the RV dealer, but I have a way you can definitively determine how heavy of a trailer you can tow. Look in the door jamb of the driver's side front door for the manufacturer ID tag. You should see the acronym 'GCWR' or Gross Combined Weight Rating. To ensure that this hitch will work with your current rails, I am including a picture that shows the mounting holes for this fifth wheel hitch. • Truck Option and Fifth Wheel Hitch Recommendation for Towing Long Trailer
Are you talking about a hitch or a truck? For a trailer that long you will want to go with a 1 ton long bed truck to ensure you have the towing capacity for such a heavy trailer. You will also want to go with a long bed truck so that you have enough clearance to make tight turns without having to use a slider hitch. For better turning characteristics for the truck I would recommend a extended cab or regular cab over a 4 door truck as that will shorten the wheelbase which will allow the...
