A trailer jack is designed to lift the tongue of your trailer so you can connect the trailer coupler to your hitch ball. To do this, you'll need a jack with a lift capacity high enough to handle your trailer's tongue weight.
Tongue weight is the amount of weight that your trailer applies to the back of your tow vehicle. Typically, your tongue weight should be 10-15% of your total trailer weight (trailer + cargo). In other words, a 10,000-lb trailer would have a tongue weight between 1,000 lbs and 1,500 lbs. For a trailer this size, you would need a jack with a lift capacity of at least 1,500 lbs.
It's okay to have a jack with a weight rating that is higher than your trailer's tongue weight. In fact, a jack with a higher lift capacity should operate more efficiently, allowing you to spend less time cranking and more time camping.
Every jack offers a certain amount of lift or travel. Screw travel is the distance the jack extends when you crank it (or toggle it to "extend" on an electric model). Some jacks include a drop leg for extra adjustability. On these jacks, you'll see the maximum extension of the drop leg listed in the specs as well. Adding the screw travel and drop leg travel together will give you the total lift. The total lift listed above can help you determine how high this jack will be able to raise your trailer.

Base sold separately.The item I received was exactly what was described and in appearance from the website. I did notice a round hole in the cardboard box that matches the diameter of the crank handle but upon inspection no damage appears to have taken place. I am currently sanding and then repainting my trailer frame and once that's completed I will mount my new jack which I anticipate will work nicely.
I have an older trailer, a big Tex I think, 305v, and its Jack was very rusty and a wasp nest was active in the pipe. Not to mention the pipe was bent and wouldn't allow a caster, which was when I found the wasp nest! I found etrailer.com after a few goggle searches. They had the best price and earliest delivery date I could find. It arrived, all shiny and new, I was able to install it myself with just 3 bolts. Now my caster fits, the jack works, love is grand.

The real question of product satisfaction is longevity and it is too soon to comment on that. The trailer jack was a good price, looks nice, arrived quickly, and installed easily, so I'm definitely happy so far. I also bought a foot for this jack, item # PS1400700340 and I will review that separately.
Our jack broke after 21 years and I ordered this Pro Series jack on my own and my hubby was so proud of me. He loves it so much more and I am the one who goes the hitching up to our boat so I absolutely can’t say enough about it.

This is a great product and has functioned well since my etrailer purchase a year ago.
If looking for a high quality trailer jack, I recommend the Pro Series.
Once I enlarged the holes in the trailer, the jack fit perfectly and was as advertised. The old jack was slimmer. I was surprised that the handle doesn't fold down - it looks like it should - but it's of no consequence.

This Pro-Series Trailer Jack has worked flawlessly for me and still looks like brand new after 1 year. Its a better-quality jack than what had been on my trailer and I would certainly recommend it to my friends.
