Today we're going to be taking a quick look at the Curt Coupler Safety Pin. This is part number know-8P. This is a quarter inch coupler pin. It's got a nice safety latch that's going to come around it and hold it in place. This is typically going to be used on the tongue of a trailer here to hold our latch closed. What we'll do is just open it up there.
The quarter inch shank is going to have two and three sixteenths of an inch worth of usable pin. For most couplers, that's going to fit through there without any kind of problem. As you can see, that's going to keep it from coming up and coming off our trailer. These are going to work good whether you're using this style of coupler or the trigger coupler. As long as it's got a quarter inch hole diameter there, we should be able to slide that through and won't have any issues. The spring's nice and sturdy.
I like this pin because I don't think it's going to be one of those that's going to pop off or we're going to wind up it coming off while we're heading down the road. It's got a nice zinc coating to it, so corrosion resistance is going to be a pretty strong suit there. We're not going to have to worry about it kind of degrading over time to badly. When it's time to remove it, all we have to do is just push that spring loaded latch straight out there, pull it out, unhook our trailer or whatever we need to do and then when it's time for use, just click simple operation. It's really going to give us that piece of mind knowing that we're not going to have to worry about our coupler coming loose. Everything arrived as ordered. What was nice, setting etrailer.com apart was the wonderful packing of their products. The ordered products arrived well anchored in a large, easy to handle box that actually had handles cut into the cardboard box for easy handling. Great product! I have several trailer hitch applications on which I can use this pin. It is well made and provides peace of mind knowing my coupler will stay locked. Easy to use and can be attached to the coupler with a small chain. Highly recommend!
I use these on my work trailers (hitches) when I am working local and locks when I am out of town. I also use these on my privacy gate latches very good for that.
