Installation

This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's factory tow package wiring harness. The connection point for the 4-way harness is located behind the rear bumper. The converter plugs into the factory wiring harness behind the interior access panel in your rear cargo area. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your cargo area.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Powered Tail Light Converter with Surface-Mount Technology

A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a circuit-protected, battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.

Curt SMT Circuit Boards

Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.

Each Curt circuit board is made using high-quality components that are pieced together in the most technologically savvy fashion, leading to greater predictability and reliability in functioning.

It's been a year that I have installed your product, recently I needed to use the trailer again and everything that I installed a year ago still works perfectly. It's been a pleasure buying, installing and using your products.
Thanks for everything!

Honda

Success. I saved $220 over local Honda dealer installation. A few hacks: use only one hand to attach connector inside the back fuse box; it makes it hard to snap them together but it’s the only way. Two hands don’t fit. And don’t forget to insert the smaller fuse into the wire before before closing back fuse box. But I did this right and all lamp features work.

Perfectly. My portable trailer lights work correctly one year after I installed the wiring harness

Worked as described

by:
2015 Honda Pilot

The wiring harness was exactly what I needed for my 2015 Honda Pilot. The instructions were quite easy to follow step by step, and I had no issues what so ever in the installation. It took approximately less than 30 minutes to install, and when I hooked it up to my boat trailer connector, the parking, brakes and turn signal lights worked perfectly. I highly recommend this do-it-yourself product to anyone needing to save a few dollars out of pocket expense, rather than having the dealer install it for you. The dealer I purchased the vehicle from, quoted me a price of approximately $230.00 to 250.00 to have it installed by them. I saved almost $200.00 by installing the harness myself! Thank you etrailer.com! You saved me a few hard earned bucks!

It s been about a year, and the harness is still working awesomely! I have zero complaints! Thanks e-trailer.com!

I received my part on time , delivery schedule was telling me that. Then I’m very happy to share my happiness with you! Thank you for the fastest delivery! I already set-up the part on my Honda Pilot and everything run well! Once again thank you.

Plug and play! The hardest part was removing that darn cap on the harness under the rear bumper. Both sides need to be pushed in including the side that connected the plug to the body. I broke mine prying it off. Make sure you get a small flat head and pry under the blue piece that goes into the body of the car.

It worked great! So great that I have reordered a new one to accept a larger trailer.

by:

Was not new product - open packaging. Open parts throughout box. Was all there though except the instructions that I found online. The 2 sided tape was used before and unusable. It fit and functional.

by:

Exactly as described...well packed and lightning fast shipment. Installed in 30 mins and looks like a good quality harness. The instructions made it easy...this was a fraction of what the dealership wanted to charge for the factory version.

product seems solid. Instructions were okay. Did not mention to install fuse in control wiring even though fuse was included.

Not happy that is did not come with a bracket to mount the flat four connector.

Because 4-Pole installation can vary, Curt does not include a mounting bracket with most of their wiring harnesses. Curt does offer a mounting bracket with part # C58303.

2015 Honda Pilot

excellent product , 4 pin trailer wire harness for 2015 Honda pilot was so easy to install , took maybe 10 minutes , every thing you need comes with the kit and is fail safe. it works grate and I know that there is no better product out there ,just as good as Honda's and cost less. the only thing I could add is the plug on the pilot under the back end has a button on the top and on the bottom that need to be pushed and the plug should come right out

I'm a 30 year old woman and figured I could follow the directions and install it by myself. The install was easy, but I ended up having to ask my father for help. There were only 2 issues that I had. First, I could not get the cover of the gray trailer wiring harness connecter off that is located under the vehicle. I guess I wasn't strong enough to pull it off, but my dad was able to get it off. The second issue I had was that the directions did not say to install the red 10 amp fuse into the red box located on the CURT wiring connector (or I missed that step). So I had everything hooked up correctly, but the lights wouldn't work because that fuse was not put in. Once my dad came out to figure out what was wrong, he saw it right a way. If the directions had said to put that red fuse there, I would have been able to do that.

Overall, I highly recommend this product. I saved a lot of money by doing it myself with this part, rather than taking it to the dealership to install it.

It took me less than 30 minutes with also having to chase a 20 month old around our yard. Also, highly recommend Etrailer. Their 110% price matched saved me even more. Thank you!

After one year of service my wiring harness is still working perfectly.

I was a little apprehensive about attempting this install on my new vehicle, but after reading the online documentation and watching the video I felt ready to give it a try. Everything installed exactly as illustrated in the documentation, and I was ready to pull my trailer in about 40 minutes. I'm very happy with the product and the company.

I have never had any problems with the product. Thanks for the follow-up.

by:
2012 Honda Pilot

Installation instructions were good and easy to follow. Product has worked very well. Only unfortunate thing was the retainer tail on the rubber protective cap that covers the exterior plug. The slot in that tail tore through so it won't stay attached to the wiring when not in use. Only good luck has prevented me from losing it.

2015 Honda Pilot

We had a very hard time finding a wiring kit to fit our 2015 Honda Pilot 4WD. Most local autoparts stores couldn't recommend a part for our car because it's so new, and the dealership quoted $220 plus installation for a wiring harness. This is definitely the way to go!

The package is labeled 2012-2014 Honda Pilot, but YES, it fits the 2015 Pilot perfectly. The instructions were clear and easy to follow. This kit is "plug and play." Took me about 20 minutes to install, while simultaneously watching my 3 month old daughter.

This kit is four a 4 flat wire connector, common on small utility trailers. We needed it to hook up to a 6x12 U-Haul trailer. All the lights and signal worked perfectly, and even after I paid for rush shipping, we saved $150-200 compared to dealership prices.

I highly recommend this product.

Perfect fit and hundreds cheaper than going to the dealer. Thank you e trailer.

by:
2012 Honda Pilot

Once I figured it out, installation was very, very simple. Other reviews had mentioned using one hand to make the connection inside the car and putting the red fuse in before you stuff that part into the little compartment. Definitely do both as there is not a lot of room to work once you get the parts in there. The included instructions referenced drilling and reconnecting the battery. I'm not sure what that was about because you don't have to do either. Getting the cap off of the plug by the hitch was a bear. There is a second clip on the top the instructions don't mention. I spent probably 15 minutes trying to get the cap off because I didn't realize it was there. Had I known how to get the cap off installation would have taken about 5 minutes. Curt should probably review their instructions and include a more accurate set.

by:
2012 Honda Pilot

Product works perfectly, and it was relatively easy to install. The only thing I would do differently is to adhere the "black box" to the sidewall in the rear compartment and then run the harness to the adjoining compartment where it plugs in. I say that, because there it a lot more room in the rear compartment. Otherwise, I am completely satisfied. I have ordered several hitches and harness from Hitch-web over the years, and they are, without a doubt, the best resource for towing equipment.

by:
2014 Honda Pilot

I ordered a trailer wiring kit for my wife's 2014 Honda Pilot. I was quoted over $260 from the Honda dealership for just the parts, i'm sure the labor would have been another $150 or more. The kit came from E-trailer quickly with easy to follow instructions. I was able to get everything installed and working in less than an hour. I saved hundreds of dollars with E-trailer.com!

2013 Honda Pilot

This is a great product from e-trailer to make an easy connection from the factory Honda Pilot wiring harness to a four prong flat connector.
The dealer wants to install a very expensive harness for a large trailer or camper with electric brakes etc. With online video and supplied instructions this is a snap to install and e-trailer was a pleasure to deal with.

The ordered product arrived on time. Everything was in the package as advertised. Everything installed as the instructions stated. Hooked up trailer. Product performed flawlessly. Very satisfied customer here.

The best product ever, could not have been easier and the since the hook up we have had ZERO problems. The only thing I can remember being a little confusing was the ing of the RED fuse. But, we sorted it out and we are happy. Thanks for the follow up.

  • Troubleshooting Right Turn and Brake Lights Stopped Working on Trailer with Honda Pilot
There are a few possible reasons as to why you are no longer getting any power on the right turn/brake light circuit wire for the Curt Wiring Harness # C56170. You have at least ruled out the trailer wiring as the issue and can focus on your Honda Pilot. I first recommend simply inspecting the 4-Way pins at the rear of your Honda Pilot. Sounds like you blew a trailer wiring fuse under the hood of your 2012 Honda Pilot. Since the part # C56170 connects to factory wiring that is circuit protected you would need to find the fuse that protects the circuit on your vehicle wiring and replace as necessary. There are also some towing related relays that you would need to check that are in the fuse panel as well.

  • Trailer Wiring Harness for a 2015 Honda Pilot
A converter is necessary when adding trailer wiring to a 2015 Honda Pilot. Most trailers in the US have a combined system meaning the turn signals and brake lights are on the same circuit. And many vehicles work on a separate system. The converter takes the separate circuits from the vehicle and combines them to work properly with the trailer. This is the same as how the factory tow package wiring is set up on the Pilot. If you just need to replace a lost or damaged 4-Way part of harness...
