Installation on 2014 and 2015 Toyota Highlander

2014-15 Toyota Highlander connection points

This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness. The connection points for the 4-way tow harness and the converter are located underneath the spare tire compartment. Once you've plugged in the converter, locate the "towing fuse" position in your fuse box and insert the included 10-amp fuse.

Installation on 2013 and Earlier Toyota Highlander

This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness. The connection point for the 4-way tow harness is located behind the driver's-side interior trim panel in your rear cargo area. The converter plugs into the factory wiring harness beneath your dash, on the driver's side. Once you've plugged in the converter, locate the "towing fuse" position in your fuse box and insert the included 10-amp fuse.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your cargo area.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Powered Tail Light Converter

A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Toyota Highlander

In addition to the wiring kit, I also purchased the tow bar attachment for my Toyota Highlander. I was thrilled with how easy it was to install and the step by step video instructions on your website was exactly what I needed. Everything works perfectly and I was able to pull about 5 tons of stone in one haul which made me very happy. The trailer hitch and wiring has already paid for itself multiple times over in what I would have spent on delivery fees for my patio projects.

Thank you for a great product and a fantastic user experience.

by:

Product shipped in very Good condition. Installation instructions were very good. Saw the supporting online installations were excellent too. Thank yo

by:

The wiring harness was easy to install. Clear precise written directions were given (which I do read). The trailer lights work every time I tow something. Thank you, thank you!!

by:

Excellent product, easy to install, followed video instructions

by:

The hitch receiver is working well primarily as a bicycle carrier. It has pulled a light duty trailer well.

by:

Not very good instructions included but not too difficult for hubby to install. [online video] was very helpful!

No problem with the wiring harness

by:

I was nervous about ordering and installing this kit myself, but it really was incredibly easy. I didn't have to do any splicing, it really was just plug and play.

by:

Great products! The shop had everything it needed to setup my 2017 Highlander up for towing a camper trailer.

by:

Worked perfectly, thanks

by:

Toyota Highlander

Very easy installation on my Highlander. Easiest install I have ever done. Very heavy duty hitch, at a great price.

by:

The product was exactly what I needed. However shipping through usps stinks. They were days late and when it came I met the postman who said he didn’t have the package then found it at the bottom of his bag. I guess I might never have seen it.

by:
2015 Toyota Highlander

I’m loving this trailer hitch receiver. My 8-yr old some helped me do a self-install on my 2015 Toyota Highlander. The instructions on the retailer website were fantastic, and with a little patience and the right tools, we had no problem installing this ourselves - savings hundreds of dollars!

by:

No problems, good product

by:
Toyota Highlander

The hitch and 4 flat wiring kit were great and everything went together easily, I would say it took approx. 40 minutes to install everything including the hitch and the wiring - very easy and straight forward. The videos from e-tailer were very helpful. We used the hitch on our Highlander to pull our boat to the lake this weekend. Everything worked as it should with no issues. I give it 5 stars.

by:

Your shipping company SUCKS!!!! Your service and product was Fantastic. I would really rethink your shipping company. Look at attached photo. My harness was soaked.

2012 Toyota Highlander

A little disappointed...did not come with everything. It was missing a fuse, zip ties and the grease...wish the product would say that it wasn't coming with these items. Once I went and got my own fuse I got it to work.

Super easy and convenient to install. After removing certain panels in truck, you literally just plug connectors together, install the fuse at front fuse box and you are good to go.

Purchased wiring harness for my Toyota avalon. The instructions to connect and secure it for long term use were spot on. Great product and Support.

by:
2015 Toyota Highlander

Wiring took 5 minutes to install. Only complaint is with a 2015 highlander you need to buy the “WITHOUT TRAILERING PACKAGE” option even if you have the XLE or above with tow prep package

by:

great place and amazing pricing, i never bother shopping prices anymore I KNOW! theirs is the best foe me...... i will never buy from anywhere else and this is my 4th hitch and wiring kit from them not only for me but for family as well. thank you all!

by:
2011 Toyota Highlander

Originally I had ordered just half the part, but decided to keep it for backup. I needed this one very quickly and got it in three days, which was perfect timing.

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver and Wiring for a 2014 Toyota Highlander with Spare Tire
The Curt # C13394 is a confirmed fit for your 2014 Toyota Highlander, however, in our installation notes we have that you will be able to store a full sized spare underneath after the hitch is installed unless the spare is on an aluminum rim. The aluminum rims are too wide to fit. If your Highlander has the factory tow package (converter under dash) then I recommend going with the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Connector # HM11141825. If it doesn't have the factory...

  • Adding an Aftermarket Tow Package to a 2018 Toyota Highlander
From my research the factory tow package available on the 2018 Toyota Highlander includes a trailer hitch receiver and 4-way trailer connector to power a trailer's lights. The trailer hitch I recommend is the EcoHitch, part # 306-X7250. I like that the hitch's cross tube is hidden behind the rear bumper and out of site. The only downside to this hitch is that it isn't rated for weight distribution. If you're going to be using a weight distribution system to tow a trailer then I recommend...

No, the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # HM11141845 includes a taillight converter that will combine your separate stop and turn signals into the single-wire format used on trailers. Your Highlander does not need to have one too. The small packet included in the kit contains dielectric grease like # 11755. This grease is to be applied to all connectors in the kit at the time of installation. The grease does not conduct electricity but it...

Yes, the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness # HM11141845 referenced in your question is confirmed to fit your 2016 Toyota Highlander that does not have the factory tow package. This custom-fit harness will install by connecting directly to the built-in ports located in the rear cargo area on the driver's side of your vehicle. This will provide you with a 4-Way connector that will connect with and power a trailer's basic signal lights. I have attached an installation video on...

  • 2019 Toyota Highlander Wiring Harness Installation Tips
This Hopkins wiring harness does fit your 2019 Toyota Highlander. Since the location of the factory wiring is located inside the car and not under/behind the bumper, you will likely be limited to the current location of the wiring. That being said, the hitch you are looking at # E98844 would be a good choice for your vehicle. The one suggestion I will make is that if you reference the picture attached to this question, there is a screen shot of a spot in the install video that shows a...

The Harness # HM11141825 is only a replacement section for the 4-way connector. This must have either the factory section or Hopkins section included with the Harness # HM11141845 to operate.
