How to Determine if 2008 Toyota Highlander is Equipped with Factory Taillight Converter

Question:

Hello My Vin check says that I have tow package but I would like to check that it is correct before ordering the harness. The VIN check says : 4-whl Ind Suspension 4Whl Pwr Ast Vent Fr/Solid Rr Disc Brake Hill-Start Assist Control / Tow Prep Pkg 19inch 10-Spoke Alloy Wheels/245/55R19Tires It includes Tow prep but it might be related to the wheels ? Anyway, what would be the easiest way ? Where would the tow converter would be ? THanks

Luckily, rather than trying to understand the VIN check, the easiest way to determine if your Highlander is equipped with the taillight converter is to get a quick peek at the 10-pin connector it would plug into. The connector is located under the dash, between the emergency brake pedal and the brake pedal, as shown in the provided photo.

If there's nothing plugged into the connector, you'd want to use the # HM11141845, as the trailer wiring won't work correctly without a taillight converter. If the converter IS plugged into the connector, the # HM11141825 you referenced would work great.

I've linked to installation instructions for both parts. The installs are shown on newer Highlander models, but the procedure would remain pretty similar with your 2008 model.
