Which Hopkins Wiring Kit Is Needed to Install A 4-way On 2010 Toyota Highlander Without Factory Tow?
Question:
I have a 2010 Toyota Highlander that did not have a factory tow hitch on it. I recently had a hitch receiver installed and need to add a wiring harness. Do I need the HM11141825 or the HM11141845 that i can simply tee into the existing wiring in the cargo area? I will be towing a trailer without brakes so i believe that i only need a 4 prong plug and harness. Is that also correct?

Helpful Expert Reply:
Since your 2010 Toyota Highlander did not ship with the factory tow package you will need the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness # HM11141845. The Harness # HM11141825 is only a replacement section for the 4-way connector. This must have either the factory section or Hopkins section included with the Harness # HM11141845 to operate.
As long as your trailer does not have electric brakes or require some sort of charge line or reverse wiring you will only need the 4-way flat to operate the lights on most small trailers.
The Mounting Brackets # 18140 and # 18144 will allow you to secure the 4-way to your Receiver # e98858 without having to drill into the receiver or rear fascia.
