Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a look at the Dexter 12 1/4 inch by 3 3/8 inch left-hand side self-adjusting electric brake shoes for the 8,000 pound to 10,000 pound axles. Now these are trailer brake shoe pads that fit the Dexter self-adjusting electric brakes. As I mentioned, these are designed to fit the Dexter 12 1/4 inch by 3 3/8 inch brake assemblies with the cast backing plate. Now, those assemblies we do sell separate on our website. For the 8,000 pound axles, that's assembly part number 23-434 and the assembly for the 9,000 and 10,000 pound axles is part number 23-450.
And again, both of those we do sell separate on our website. These shoes are used on both of those assemblies. Now, when we say 12 1/4 inch by 3 3/8 inch, what that measurement is, is when these are installed on the backing plate and attached they are going to measure 12 1/4 inches from this side to this side. And then the 3 3/8 inch size will be the size of the pad that's on the shoe. You can see there's your 3 3/8 inch measurement on that.
Now, the installation hardware to install these to the back end plate or not included. We do sell those separately. Again, these are left-hand driver side brake shoes and the way you can tell that on what side they go on is by the size of the pad on the shoe itself. If you look at this one the pad goes all the way from here to here, and on this one the pad goes from here to here. This is the shorter pad.
The shorter pad is your primary shoe. That'll always go on the front or face the front of the trailer. So that'll let you know that this is for the left-hand driver's side assembly. Now these are self-adjusting and the way you can tell that it'll have this wheel here that the adjustment cable will go around. Now, we also sell this in the right-hand passenger side brake shoes.

- Does the Oil Seal On a Dexter 10K Hub Need To Be Replaced After RemovingI think you are asking if the oil seal must be replaced each time the drum is removed and if that is the case then no, the oil seal if in good condition can be reused. For replacement braking assemblies you can use the Dexter Electric Brake Kit part # 23-450-451 which are self-adjusting. If you just want to replace just the lining that is an option as well using part # BP04-255 and part # BP04-245.

- What is the Difference Between the BP04-240 and BP04-245The # BP04-240 and # BP04-245 are really for all intents and purposes the same brake shoe and work with the same assemblies. The # BP04-240 are made by Dexter and the # BP04-245 are made by Redline, who manufacture a wide variety of replacement parts for trailers.
