Video Transcript for Bulldog Winch Wiring Kit Installation - 2004 Ford F-250

On this 2004 Ford F-250 super duty, we're going to review and install the bulldog wiring kit, part number BDW20207. First of, all hand cover the parts that come with this part number. This is our main wire harness right here, which is constructive of two gauge material and its overall length, is going to be 24 foot long. We'll take a look at the ends. First of, for your typical assessor, which should be the winch that goes on here. This is going to be ride towards the back of a truck. Comes with a cap, to cover up when it's not being used.

Also there's a little lanyard, so don't lose it, you can attach it to somewhere on the vehicle. On the other end of our wires, these is ground one. It's got all seal that ends on it. Our negative wire, here, it's intended to be installed on the negative side of the battery. Here's our red one that goes to the positive side of the battery and the same style construction. For your accessory or plug into it, comes with it's own plug and some logs to get crypt on to two gauge wire as well. This also comes from some heavy zip ties, to help it secure it to the vehicle.

To start off our install, I'm going to take this end of our wire harness and I'll route down behind battery, down towards the frame. I'm going to go through this opening right through here. We should be close to the inaudible 00:01:20 liner when guided from there, once we get down to that point. Once we have it through our opening, we'll go ahead and pull all the slack through and make one ground connection to our battery. We'll go ahead and make a connection to the negative side of the battery. We'll go ahead and loosen up the nut here, and we'll go right ahead and remove it.

Right, what I'm taking a wire and add it to our negative side of our battery. Now of course this is going to be a bit of sloppy fit, so I'm going to use the number ten washer on my bolt, to help give it some grip on the cable when we reinstall the nut. Now, I like to leave my positives, terminal as one of the last things I connect up. Let's leave this alone for now, we'll go back underneath the truck and route our wire to the back. Now we'll run a wire back, we'll make sure we stay away from anything moving like suspension components or anything hot like the exhaust. We'll go ahead and run ours long the frame as best we can and out towards the bumper. Now we'll go ahead and show you how we routed our wires.

Basically, we tried to follow the top of the frame rail as this is possible. Around this body mount right here, where it will rest on the frame, go along through here. We used some zip ties that came with the kit, to help hold it in place. We've basically used the existing holes in the frame and went along the side of it. We got over by the axle a bit, we had to run over the top of the frame and then start running inside the frame and let the cross numbers hold the wire up for us. Now you know, so we have some extra wire. We place some simple loops in there, zip tie it together and by this time we we're out of large zip ties, so we went back to some small zip ties. Held everything up against the inside edge of the bumper. There we have a wire harness right here. Now our kit does not come with a bracket or anything to hold in place, so, you could leave it like this, where the cover will be fine or, you can advocate your own bracket for it. If you choose to mount up to a bracket, or something from this vehicle, it does have holes built in for that purpose as well. Now we'll install our cap, we're in between the two wires and back over itself this way. That way your cap always stays with it. If we're wiring around, we'll go ahead and move to the front of the truck and hook up a positive cable. We'll use this pre-existing stud right here. We'll go ahead and remove the nut, using a ten millimeter socket. With this time, instead of using the extra washer on here, we just used to use a smaller ring of familiar wires stacked on top and let that do the work for us. Then we'll clump it down when we re-install the nut. This goes to the back of the truck one more time and we'll go ahead and use the tester to verify if we have power going back. We use our tester on it, even labelled negative, so we'll put our ground clamp there and we'll check the other side. Now you have power going back to it and inaudible 00:05:03 ad on our own accessory. Now we've verified power's going through our cable. I think we're good to go. L-Fisher for part number BDW20207. The bulldog wiring kit, on this 2004 Ford F-250 super duty.

Install from rear to front and its done

Great product, worked perfectly. I installed a winch on my car hauler trailer with a tip up bed. The 24' wiring kit was the perfect length. I have a 4 door/ long bed truck and with the trailer bed tipped up the extra length was perfect to connect to the winch. The plug for the winch side was easily soldered onto my winch leads. Very happy with the product all around.

Best service! And prices also. Never going back to amazon if I can buy it from etrailer.

GREAT! I plug this in daily and it charges my trailer way faster than the 7-way power plug. I had it installed by a local shop. THANKS!

by:

Hi quality product, better than I expected. Also reasonably priced. It will be a quality accessory added to the vehicle and be interchangeable to the next vehicle I purchase. Thanks etrailer for making my shopping easier. AND Talk about quick service and delivery all 5 Star for me. I purchased both front and rear hook ups for my winch or other things that will need power and they are both just what the doctor ordered.

  • Recommended 12000lb Winch and Quick Disconnect Wiring
We have exactly the parts you are looking for. Starting with the winch I recommend the Bulldog Winch Standard Series Off-Road Winch - Synthetic Rope # BDW10046 would be a great option that has the 12000lb rating you are looking for, and automatic mechanical brake will hold 100% of the load to minimize winch creep. For a quick disconnect connection I recommend the Bulldog Winch Front Wiring Kit # BDW20205 if you are planning on mounting the winch to the front of your vehicle, or the Bulldog...

  • Wiring Quick Disconnect Kit for an 8,500 Pound Capacity Electric Winch
The wiring kit # BDW20207 that you have referenced would actually work well for you. It is designed for winches ranging in capacity from 5,000 up to 16,500 pounds. There are several ways you can wire up a winch depending on where you are putting it. I have included a link to an article that covers the most common methods.

  • What Gauge Wire is Needed for Trailer Winch
For a winch like the Superwinch S6000 Winch # CU854754 you will simply want to use the Trailer and Vehicle Electric Winch Wiring Kit # BDW20207. Since winches can vary on how much they can pull this also affects how much power they need. For a winch that is rated up to 4K it is recommended to use 6 Gauge Wire like what comes in the Bulldog Kit # BDW20304. Anything higher than 4K will need to use higher gauge wire like what is included in the Kit # BDW20207 that I mentioned. If you let...

  • How To Wire Winch To Install On Both Back of Truck and Trailer
The Bulldog Winch Rear Wiring Kit part # BDW20207 would allow you to power a winch from the back of a truck or on a car trailer no problem using the vehicle's battery. The leads attached to the quick connect would go from the winch to the battery on the vehicle. The other quick connect would then attach to the leads that come from the winch. This would allow you to move the winch from the truck to the trailer without any additional wiring. You could purchase an extra set of quick connects...

  • Can the 12 Volt Circuit on a 7-Way Connector be Used to Charge a Trailer Mounted Battery
The 12 volt circuit on a 7-Way trailer connector is only enough to provide a maintenance charge to a trailer battery. It cannot charge it up. But yes, you can attach the 12 volt circuit wire from the trailer connector to the positive battery terminal on the trailer. There should not be any back feeding issue. You will not be able to charge up a trailer mounted battery from the tow vehicle because the distance from the front of the vehicle to the trailer battery is too far and most all...

  • Can 12k Winch Ground to Frame or Does it have to Run to Battery Post
This is a really great question that we debated here not that long ago actually. A lot of people have done it both ways and it seems to be fine for most people to ground through the frame. But on higher drawing winches like what you have it's best to run the wire (I know it's expensive) back to the negative post of the battery. One way to get a good idea if you can go to the frame is to compare the thickness of the winch's ground wire and the thickness of the ground strap ran from your...

  • Wiring Kit for Powering Winch at Rear of Vehicle with 2 Gauge Wire
You basically just created a winch wiring kit like the # BDW20207 which is 24 feet of 2 gauge wire just like what you have so what you did was a great route to go. Some might run it to the output pin of the alternator but it's basically all the same.

  • Can a Trailer Connector be Used to Power an Electric Trailer Winch
Electric winches should have a direct connection to a battery for power. The wiring in a trailer connector, like a 7-Way, and an adapter like # HM47675, is not a heavy enough gauge to effectively power a winch. Also, the farther away from the power source the winch is, the heavier the wiring will need to be. I recommend using a wiring kit specifically for electric winches like Trailer and Vehicle Electric Winch Wiring Kit # BDW20207. I have included a link to all of the available wiring...

  • How Can I Use A ComeUp DV-6s Winch On The Front And Rear Of My 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 2500
There is no reason that the ComeUp DV-6s Off-Road Winch - Synthetic Rope - Hawse Fairlead - 6,000 lbs, part # CU854754, could not be used on the front and rear of your 2019 Chevrolet Silverado Duramax. The wire that you will be running from the front of the vehicle to the rear of the vehicle will need to be really thick wiring - winches draw a lot of power. I recommend using the Bulldog Winch Rear Wiring Kit - Quick Connect to Terminal End - 2 Gauge - 24' Long Item # BDW20207, and the Bulldog...

The battery cable on the Bulldog Winch Trailer Winch # BDW10039 is 6' long. Yes, the Dutton-Lainson Wiring Harness # DL24151 will work with your SuperWinch Winch 2 Go but as you pointed out in your second question it isn't the best solution for you. A better harness is the Bulldog Wiring Kit # BDW20207 that has a ground and power cable that are both 24 feet long.

You can use the Tow Ready Battery Isolation Solenoid, part # TR118665, in-line with the positive battery cable to keep from draining power from the vehicle battery. • Recommendation For Powering a Trailer Mounted 12,000LB Winch

Also, those loads are based on the just one layer of wire wrapped around the drum. Each additional layer of wire (when the winch wire is laid on top of itself) reduces the winchs pulling capacity...
