Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

Packing sucks. Boxes were torn open and taped up. Bearings and other parts bent scratched and for the 500 plus Dollars i spent would have been nice to get something other than china made bearings. Hubs and drums look ok just banged up some.

I apologize that it arrived this way. I will have our Customer Service team reach out to you.

I originally received drums with incorrect bolt circles due to box contents not matching their labels. etrailer provided a shipping label for their return and had the correct drums on the way even before receiving the incorrect ones back. All bearings, races and grease seals were included in sealed packs, as well as detailed instructions. After packing the bearings with grease, as well as the hubs, final installation was simple.

The final result worked quite well. After learning the cause of the self-adjusting brakes overtightening from a different source but the etrailer staff should have recognized the issue I loaded my 2500 pound sports car on my trailer for a round trip of about 1500 miles and was very satisfied with the brake performance.

by:

Purchased a 7,000 Lb. trailer, but new laws required a trailer with a weight rating to have axle brakes. With the help of etrailer; I found the right parts to add brakes to my trailer. All the parts fit perfect. Thank you.

by:

Great service and excellent website

by:

factory OEM and exactly what i ordered

by:

I was very satisfied! Everything fit like it should and the trailer tows great. I will definitely order from etrailer again!

by:

Great help from figuring out what we needed in parts to ordering them.

by:

I ordered new Brake Hubs and Brake backing plates. After a year and constant use, these are still holding strong. There is no substitute for 4-wheel braking on any dual axle trailer. I highly recommend upgrading any two wheel axle brakes to 4 wheel braking. They work! Thank you etrailer.

Still going strong- brakes still work perfect.

by:

On a tandem axle trailer I add brakes to the non brake axle. This matched the other brake axle perfectly.

The trailer stops as well now as the day they were installed.

by:

Perfect fit for my M101CDN2 military trailer converting to Jeep JK 5 on 5 bolt pattern. Only complaint is the imported bearings supplied with them. Will be adding Dexter electric brakes soon.

by:

Purchased new backing plates assemblies and drum assemblies 2 to replace worn out parts and 2 for installation on an axle that didn't have brakes on at all. Parts fit great and have been working flawlessly for a year. Great parts, prices, and shipping time.

Thanks,

Brad B.

by:

These kits bolted on with no modification. I replaced a hydraulic surge brake system with them. The brakes perform well and the auto adjusters make it easy to keep them well adjusted.

by:

Good product, easy install. Make sure to measure bolt pattern to make sure you order correct drums. Customer support is excellent as well as the how to video's! I would highly recommend this product.

Still working fine. Good product, excellent customer support!

by:

Ordered a set of four hub and drum assemblies for my 15 year old Big Tex 70DM car hauler trailer. All merchandise arrived intact and within a reasonable time. Especially liked the convenient hand holes for easy carrying of the heavy cartons. Great hardware package. The remove and replace went without a hitch (pun!) and she's back on the road. I have ordered from etrailer before and will again when the need arises.

by:

Had a mixup in hub numbers. Called Amanda at etrailer, and we worked it out very satisfactorily. New parts and refund were received promptly. If I need additional trailer parts, I will certainly use your company again. The new parts worked exactly as prescribed. Thanks, JC

by:

Very nice product. All the parts were included with the brake drums to make for an effortless installation. I've bought items from etrailer in the past and will buy from them in the future.

Good communication and quick shipping.

Prices are very reasonable.

by:

All the parts I ordered arrived in two business days and in good condition. Everything to add brakes to one axle fit perfectly and worked as it should. In less than two hours after my order,I got confirmation that it had shipped.Excellent outcome from placing the order to installing the parts.I will definitely do business with Etrailer again.

by:

Breakers were great installed with ease. One comment though the dust/bearing caps were just a little bit to big to fit the drum I had to grind them down a little to get them on.

by:

Dexter uses the made in USA with pride but the bearings are made in china

by:

Could not have been more pleased with the order of new electric brakes and drums for my trailer. Easy ordering and fast delivery.
Everything fit as it should.
Thank you very much.

by:

I just added trailer brakes to my BBQ trailer. These brakes a worth the money. This was my first time to install trailer brakes it took me only about an hour for the complete installation. It could have been done faster if i was younger. GREAT ITEM

by:

The drum and bearing/seal package fit like a dream and your prompt shipping to my field destination was amazing. Thank you for your service. I will definitely tell others about your company and services.

by:

The hub/drum fit fine and seems to be of good quality.
The bearings are Chinese made and I wish the assembly included only USA made bearings-seals.

by:

This website made it no problem for me to figure out how to select the correct brakes for my trailer. Great prices and fast shipping!

by:

Received parts as expected in good shape. The grease cap was a bit of an issue with the fit up. Needed a little more machining to the hub for the fit.

  • Measuring Bolt Pattern On Drum Assembly
I went to our warehouse and pulled a couple of the Dexter Hub And Drum Assemblies, part # 84556UC3. I took measurements between the bolts on the drums and took a photo you can check out. The measurement I got was 2.997 as the photo shows on the digital caliper. The measurements varied approximately .001 inches which can be due to where I placed the caliper. If you would like to send me a photo of the drum you have showing the measurement I can possibly help further. I have attached...

Thanks for the pictures of your hubs and brake assemblies on your 2006 Big Tex 70LR. Based on that the exact match for a hub drum is the part # 84556UC3 and then for new brake assemblies that are self adjusting you would want the # AKEBRK-35-SA and you'd be set.

  • Does The Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly Come Assembled Greased and Ready to Install
The Trailer Hub & Drum Assembly, part # 84556UC3, comes dry and not greased or assembled with bearings installed. The races are already installed, but you will need to grease the bearings and install them into the hub. The assembly does not come assembled and greased because dirt would be able to get into the bearings from the exposed open side and your bearings could be ruined.
