Determining Which Replacement Braking Components For Eagle Tandem Axle Boat Trailer

Question:

Hello. I have an Eagle tandem axle trailer that has dual leaf springs with rear brake drums. The boat is a 1997 searay 240 sundeck which weighs about 4000lbs dry, so Im guessing the trailer to be in the same time frame. Eagle trailer is out of business now so Im trying to get the trailer in better shape since it sat most of the time and was never really used or serviced. And of course the serial number has long since been rubbed away. Through your website Ive determined the dico 60 coupler can be switched with one you carry. But now Im looking to run new flexible lines, new brakes, wheel bearings and if easier just buying new hubs for it to make it easier and safer. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You are correct that you can replace the older Dico 60 surge brake actuator on your Eagle tandem axle trailer, and for that I recommend the Dexter DX7.5 Drop-N-Go Brake Actuator - Drum Brakes - 2" Ball - Zinc Plated - 7,500 lbs # 099-175-00.

For new brake lines I recommend going with the HydraStar Hydraulic Brake Line Kit - Tandem Axle - 15' Long, 3/16" Main Line # HS496-152 which is designed specifically for tandem axle trailers.

Moving on to the replacement brakes, bearings, and possibly hubs you will need to determine which bearing combination your spindles use to confirm the correct replacements.

The easiest way to determine your bearing combination is by removing one of your hubs and looking for the bearing numbers stamped in the face of each bearing as shown in the included picture of the # L44649.

If your bearings are worn to the point that you cannot read the bearing numbers you will need to use digital calipers like # PTW80157 to precisely measure your spindle according to the included diagram.

If you can provide this information I would be happy to recommend the correct replacement parts for your trailer.

I included a few video reviews on the products mentioned for you to take a look at.
