Video Transcript for Draw-Tite 5-Flat Trailer End Harness Installation

The 5 pole flat pincher 00:00:02 that we're using here to ease our installation for the trail wiring is part number 20017. All right, so we're going to convert our trailer with a 5 pole signal here, 5 flat. This is for Victor boat trailers because inaudible 00:00:15 the blue wire, here, which is the signal for reverse for your trailer brake lock out solenoid, so we'll strip off a quarter inch of the blue wire, here, and we'll install it into our buck connector here, that goes to our solenoid for hydraulic brake actuators. It is part number DM11993. We'll crimp it into place. We can hook up the rest of our wires to where they go, based upon our connection, here, and take our old connection, here, and cut off these zip ties to separate our wires so we can access them a little bit easier.

Now, we're going to start with what's our green wire, strip back to about 1/4". We're measuring off where we need to trim back our green wire. Get right about there. We'll cut the excess off of our green wire, strip back about 1/4", install our butt connectors. Now, we'll take the brown wire for our right side and we'll do that one, next. Then, we'll do the same for the other wires.

With all of our electrical connections made now, we can use our heat source, seal our heat shrink butt connectors up. To help tidy up our wires, I'm going to take some electrical tape, here, and wrap around our wires, just so we don't have a lot hanging down in this'll make a nice, clean install. Now that we've done that, we can actually go hook it up to our truck, and go down the lake and enjoy our boat. That completes the installation of the 5 pole flat pinch, part number 20017.

Still working great

by:

Decent 5 way plug. I did not use the blue wire taps, instead I soldered the connections as always solder wire splices that are exposed to the weather as my trailer stays outside. I did add corrugated wire wrap to it to make a cleaner installation.

  • Parts Needed To Replace Folding Tongue TieDown Engineering 70LC Surge Brake Actuator On Boat Trailer
I would be happy to help! Based on the pictures you provided your trailer uses the discontinued Tie Down Engineering 70LC, and we will need to get a bit creative on a replacement as there is not a direct replacement available. What you will need to do is use the a folding tongue kit like the Fulton Fold-Away Coupler Hinge Kit for 3" x 4" Tongue - Bolt On - Up to 7,000 lbs # FHDPB340301, but you will first need to measure the size of your trailer tongue. If you have a 3" x 4" coupler this...

  • What Are The Standard Colors And Functions For A 4 Flat On A Cargo Trailer
The standard 4 Flat will have the White (ground), Brown (running lights), Yellow (left turn and brake), and Green (right turn and brake). Black will typically be used for 12 volt power, but can also be any number of things. The only way to know for sure what it is used for will be to trace it to its source. However, if you only need the 4 standard functions, you can definitely just cap that off and use something like the Hopkins 4 Flat # HM38168. With that said, if you do trace it and...

  • Wiring a 5-Way Trailer Connector By Color and Function For Lighting and Electric Brakes
Traditionally you will find the running lights are brown, the left turn and stop is yellow, the right turn and stop is green, the white is ground, and the brake wire is blue. In your case it sounds since everything else is consistent that your electric brake wire is black. You can test these functions to confirm using a circuit tester like # PTW2993. Then you can use the Draw-Tite # 20017 your connection.

  • Recommended Reverse Lockout Solenoid For Shoreland'r Boat Trailer
We do offer reverse lockout solenoids like the # DM11993. Since the Solenoids are a universal design it will work for the surge braker actuator on your Shoreland'r trailer. You will need to change the 4-way connector on your trailer to the # 20017, and wire the blue wire of the connector to one end of the solenoid, and ground the other to the frame of the trailer. Using heat shrink butt connectors # DW05744-5 will make sure you get a good connection. Lastly you will need to add the Curt...

  • How to Connect 4-Way to 5-Way Wiring for Cargo Box Tail Lights
I'm happy to help out! The wiring color differences can be a bit frustrating but not all manufacturers use the same colors which is why we always need to match them by function instead - just like what you did. To get the running, stop, turn, and reverse signals you need the following parts: 4-Way to 5-Way Adapter - # 20036 5-Way Trailer Connector - # 20017 Tail Light Converter - # 118158 This is a cost-effective way to get the functions you're needing. • Is there a European 7-Way to US 4-Way Trailer Wiring Adapter for a BMW
Bascially, there is no easy way to convert the European 7-Way to a US 4-Way. We do not carry any kind of adapter that you could use. You are left with 2 options. First, you would install a separate wiring harness which would be the easiest. Or, you could attempt to fabricate an adapter. You would need to use a converter, # RM-732. The red wire on the input side would attach to the brake light wire on the vehicle wiring. The white wire grounds to the frame. The yellow wire will attach to...

  • Switching From Drum Brakes With an Actuator to Disc Brakes
Yes, all you have to do to switch from drum brakes to disc brakes on the actuator is replace the master cylinder. We have the Disc Brake Master Cylinder for Titan Actuators # T4747100 which is the master cylinder that you will need to complete this task. For your solenoid replacement I recommend part # T4748800. If your actuator was made before 2010 then you will need to use the Replacement Solenoid Adapter Fitting # T4750200 so that it will fit on your actuator. I also recommend using...

  • Does My Trailer With Surge Coupler Have Brakes Or Need Wiring?
As you mentioned, the Titan 60 Surge Brake Actuating Coupler is mechanical. It has a lever inside that pushes up against the hitch ball to give you a fixed point that makes the lever move and compress. This compression in the master cylinder applies the hydraulic pressure you need much like a brake pedal. The wiring you are referring to sounds like a traditional 5-way flat trailer connector where that 5th colored wire is blue and is used for either electric trailer brakes or reverse...

  • Converting 4-Way of 2001 Toyota Tundra to 5-Way to Tow Boat Trailer with Surge Brakes
We have a solution to convert your 4-way to a 5-way so that your reverse lockout solenoid can activate but we don't have a plug and play style of adapter. Instead your best option is a 4-way to 5-way adapter part # 20036 which plugs into your current 4-way and then gives you an additional wire you'd run to the reverse light circuit of your truck. You can use a quick splice connector part # SWC501746-1 to tap into the circuit easily.

  • New 5-Way Trailer Side Connector for a Boat Trailer

The # 20017 has a blue wire on it that wouldn't be used by the charge kit. Normally with 5 ways the fifth pin is for a reverse lockout but in your application it would be best to use it for charge line but due to it's smaller gauge it wouldn't be able to carry a significant charge.

  • Towing a European Spec Trailer with a US Spec 2014 Ram Pickup Truck
The issue that you are experiencing is due to the fact that the US and Europe use different types of connectors for trailers. In the US, the brake lights and turn signals are on the same circuit and there is just one circuit for running lights. In Europe, there are separate circuits for just about everything, which makes it easier to troubleshoot a problem should there ever be one. What you will need to do is change the connector on the truck to match what the trailer requires. To do this...

  • Wiring 2005 VW to Tow Trailer with Amber Turn Signals Using 5-Way Connectors, Part # HM37908, 20017
This is an unusual situation. Typically, trailers carry the brake and turn indicators on the same circuit, one for the passenger side, and one for the drivers side. The easiest way to wire this would be to cut off your existing 4- way connector and use a 5-way connector. Then wire the fifth lead on the vehicle side into the brake light circuit. You would need the 5-Flat Vehicle End, part # HM37908, and the 5-Flat Trailer End, part # 20017. This would be the simplest way to wire your trailer.

The 5-Flat Trailer End Wiring Harness, # 20017, is what is a called a wishbone harness. The brown wires contain the running light signal. It is split at the plug and ran to each side of the trailer so you do not have to have a jumper wire between the two tail lights. So the wire that is yellow and brown goes to the driver side for running lights, and the green/brown wire goes to the passenger side for running lights.
