Hey everybody, Ryan here at etrailer. Today we're gonna be checking out the CE Smith safety chain and cable S-hook keepers. So whenever it comes to pulling a trailer down the road or even a vehicle behind your motor home, safety is one of things that is very important and that's why we use safety cables or chains. Well, you can kind of take that a step further and use these S-hook keepers here, which are these rubber pieces. So if your safety cables or chains are set up this way you can always add that to it. And what it's gonna do is prevent your chain from accidentally coming off of your hitch.
That way you know it's gonna stay on there, especially if you're going down bumpy roads or uneven terrain, something like that. You can ensure that these aren't gonna accidentally come off. And for me it's something more of a reminder to myself, knowing that I actually put my safety chains on. And I say that 'cause for me personally, I'm not gonna forget hooking these over my S-hooks. So maybe you're hooking up your trailer, kinda get sidetracked or distracted, get going down the road you wonder, hey did I actually put my safety chains on or not And for me, that's just something I'm not gonna forget.
These are gonna work with pretty much any size S-hook. I have a relatively large one, I'd say about one step above average, compared to what I usually see. And honestly, I feel like this is about as big as you'd want to go. These keepers are pretty tight on here, which is good, but I think any larger might be kind of a struggle to get those on. So I do think these are gonna last for quite some time.
Honestly they do feel pretty solid, they're almost almost kind of a hard rubber, if that makes sense, a hard rubber or soft plastic at least that's kind of the texture it reminds me of. That does give you kind of a little thumb grab there. So when you go to put these on and off you can kind of push it down, pop it off or pop it back on, whatever the case may be. So just one of those small things that can help remind yourself to hook your cables up and give you a little more peace of mind whenever you're driving down the road. You know, you got the confidence knowing that these are gonna stay attached and they're not gonna come off accidentally.
So I will say these are probably really important to use especially in a flat tow situation. So you're pulling your vehicle behind your motorhome because if you think about it, not only are you gonna have a connection on your motorhome's hitch, but you're gonna have your safety cables connected to the front of your vehicle too. And just having the cable at the other end and with the car making turns and going over bumps, it's kind of doing its own thing. And so typically what happens is when you're on the car side you get a lot more movement, a lot more turning with your safety cables, as opposed to just kind of pulling a trailer down the road. So these can kind of take ya ahead of the game a little bit and really ensure that you're not gonna have an accidental disconnect or any accidents like that. So the way these are gonna work, super simple, you're just gonna slide 'em over your safety chain hooks. When you're doing this, these are some pretty large hooks here and it's pretty tight. So, just take your time, just slide this over like so, that way whenever you go to put this around your hitch, the other end will get pushed on like that and it'll keep it secured. And that'll finish up our look at of the CE Smith safety chain and cable S-Hook keepers..

Durable polypropylene won't fade or corrode.Junk, total junk. These are definitely not made of rubber, because rubber is flexible year-round. I had a terrible time putting on at 50 degrees, and then tried to put them on at 30 degrees. Impossible. They are so hard and stiff they will not go on. Very disappointed.
Tight to get on the first time
Waaay too small. I'm going to have to cut the holes bigger so they will fit.
I love it. I watched the how to install video on your web and the instructions were easy to follow. Didn’t take long.
I have needed one of these S Hook Keepers for a while. Several RV shops were queried, but none of them carried these. While picking up my RV from one of those shops, I happen to ask one of the mechanics (helping me hook up my tow car) if he knew where to get them. He said, "try on line."
I went on line and found etrailer. Ordered four them, they arrived in just a few days. Now I have spares and feel much safer knowing I have replacements if one is lost while on a trip.

This is a great product. I recently got a new hitch and found that the metal clips on my S hooks wouldn't clear the width of the hitch holes, so I wasted an hour the morning I was supposed to pull out trying to get the metal clips to go on. Now I will just take them totally off and use these plastic ones. So happy to find this product.

I love these little things! They are good as new and I even bought a spare pare in case these wore out but they havent. I even recommended them to a coworker.
These S-Hook keepers were very stiff and the openings were way too small to fit on my Blue Ox safety chains. I "adapted" them by drilling out some of the centers and after warming in hot water could actually slide them over the S-Hooks. Very difficult to install. These are made of harder plastic as opposed to the original rubber ones which are significantly more flexible. Would not recommend unless using smaller diameter S-Hooks.
Fast delivery. Chain loop was welded on 30 minutes ago, Chains are attached and keepers are snug. Had to tow the trailer home after purchase without chains and OBVIOUSLY went easy on it. The peace of mind that I'm now safer is worth the price X10! Nightmarish thought of some statistically impossible hitch failure was still WAY too much to contemplate. Etrailer is my GOTO site for anything trailer/hitch related.
These are great if you have a set of ratchet straps you'd like to convert to closed loop hooks. Just gives you that little extra assurance your cargo will stay secure. I use them when transporting my track bike on an open trailer.
Perfect product for my needs (keeping boat tie-down straps from falling off if they develop slack) but difficult to find locally. Did a search and found them in stock from etrailer. The order was processed and product delivered as expected. This is a repeat trailer part order from this company and they do well and are very good at follow up on order status. I will continue to do business with them.

Excellent product to keep safety chains from bouncing off the hitch on rough roads.
I have been looking for these for some time. Too many people do not secure their trailer and trailer chains correctly. I will use these to ensure that my chains are connected correctly and stay that way while in use.
These seem like they will do a nice job keeping the safety cables hooked on my snowmobile trailer.
Could not find these anywhere in the shops around me. Went to etrailer and of course found them. They always have what I need. Timely delivery and products were in perfect shape when received.
These are the keepers that came with my tow trailer and they have lasted for 8 years. I had a hard time trying to find them again.
