Tekonsha Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring

  • Universal Fit
  • Trailer Hitch Wiring
  • 4 Flat
  • Converter
  • Tekonsha
  • 1-1/2 Feet Long

Adapts import and domestic vehicles with separate turn and stop lights (3-Wire System) to standard trailer tail light wiring (2-Wire System).

Features:

  • Short circuit protection safeguards itself and the tow vehicle against harmful electrical shorts and mis-wire situations
  • Circuit automatically resets once the module cools
  • Adapts a 3-wire system on the towing vehicle to work with a 2-wire system on the trailer
  • Works with most multiplex wiring systems

Specs:

  • Wire pigtail measures 18" long
  • 4-Pole trailer connector is 60" long from converter box

In a three wire system, a separate wire is used to carry each of the stop, turn, and running light functions to the tail light assembly. On most trailers, the stop and turn signal functions are sent through the same wire.

Warning: Overloading circuits can cause fires. Do not exceed:

  • Maximum stop/turn light: 2.1 amps per circuit
  • Maximum tail lights: 7.5 amps

Read vehicle's owners manual and instruction sheet for additional information.

Got the 5 to 4 wire converter for my 2015 Goldwing aand installed it recently. Excellent product with well marked wires. Unit was well sealed from the weather and is working great! Fast shipping too!

Highly recommend etrailer.com

Still working perfectly!

Bill E. was extremely helpful answering my questions and ordering a replacement part that was no longer available from Valley after a wiring converter failed.
Have not had time to install new part but expect no problems.
Received order promptly as well.

Worked great, just what I needed. Very happy with no problems.

Went though multiple adapters from different manufactures for 2000 Toyota tundra in less than a year, installed this unit and it's still working, it is a little more involved but able to locate the main body where road spray won't kill it.

Easy to install and no separate power required. Some of the other taillight converters require a dedicated 12V power source, which means routing power from the battery...not this unit! The unit is easy to install, but it doesn't come with the quick splice connectors, so order those as well if you don't want to solder and heat shrink. I installed this on a 2006 WRX which required partially removing some trunk carpet and 1 piece of trim (4 carpet fasteners and 2 plastic nuts). The demo video on etrailer.com for the 2007 WRX correctly identifies the wire colours (I checked). I have a 3rd brake light on my trailer, so I ran an additional brake light wire to the 5 pole plug I installed in place of the flat 4 connector that comes with this kit. If you aren't worried about scuffing the bumper with the wire hanging out the trunk, the flat 4 will work fine. I drilled a hole in the back panel of the trunk and routed the wires through a grommet and down to a PK11502 Pollak 5 pole socket plug.

by:

It took me a lot of time trying to figure out what I needed to adapt a 6 Pin round to a 4 Pin flat on a 2008 Winnebago View with always on daytime running lights. Brake lights wouldn't illuminate, turn signals worked fine, and DRLs were always on the towed vehicle as well as the View. Normal plug-in adapters won't work and there was no way without an expensive Dealer reprogramming to disable the DRLs.
This baby did the trick, once the brake controller wire was identified it was a simple matter of splicing.

by:

This unit worked well with my 2013 Volkswagen Jetta Sportwagen TDI. The only thing I had to do to make it work better was to run two relays, one for the running lights and one for the brake lights.

Other than that issue, It's an easy to install and easy to wire type of deal.
Still functioning perfectly a whole year later!

by:

I installed this a year ago on a semi for electric brakes on a trailer. It was easy to install from the directions given by you guys and has worked great. Thanks!

by:

the Tekonsha trailer light module solved the problem of no stop light power to the trailer I was working on. Amy was very helpful and pleasant to work with. I tell everyone if you need anything for trailers just call E Trailer. Joe

by:

Great kit to add to any carI found the instruction easy to understand and I event watched the install video on the site. I am a pretty good elecrical guy so it was no problem for me, but you are going to need to know how to test probe the tailight plugs to find out what wires to connect to. I would suggest not using scotch locks to connect to the wires. Soldiering is the only way to make sure you arent damaging the wires. Good wiring option in a small package.

by:

We ordered lights and an electrical hookup for a 1965 Starcraft Tent Trailer! It came correct and very quick. like four days! Easy and fast!

by:

Product was just fine but etrailer takes service and training to the next level. Great how-to videos, schematics and diagrams make it very clear on how to install. Thanks!

by:

The staff at etrailer.com had my order filled and at my doorstep in 3 days. Amazing service and one stop shopping for high quality parts. I added them to my favorites list.

by:

This converter was exactly what I needed for my Honda trike and I received it in just 2 or 3 days very pleased

by:

I installed this on a 2008 Honda Goldwing. It was an easy install and works as advertised. Great service from e-trailer.

by:

Just what was needed. Excellent quality. Did not expect the electronics to be sealed as well.

Ordered and delivered in less than 24 hours with free shipping!

Thanks Etrailer.

  • How To Wire a Trailer Harness on a 2000 Mitsubishi Montero
Installation for a 2000 and a 2003 Mitsubishi Montero should be about the same. Part # HM48925 will work, but part # 119178 is circuit protected and will protect your vehicle electrical system. You could also use part # 119178KIT which will have all the connectors needed to splice into wires and a circuit tester to make sure you have the right wires. If your vehicle has aftermarket LED tail lights, you must use part # HM48925. Use the video for the 2003 Montero as a guide. The installation...

  • Converting a 5-Way Trailer Connector on a Honda Goldwing to a Standard 4-Way Flat
Since motorcycles have separate turn signals and brake lights they will only work with a trailer that either also has a separate system or would require a converter to make the trailer and bike compatible. Right now, the separate brake light circuit has no where to go on the trailer. It would be easiest to convert the connector on the bike using converter # 119178. On this converter, the red input wire is for brake lights only from the bike, green is right turn signal only from the bike,...

  • Turn Signal and Tail Light Circuits Work But Brake Light Circuit Not Working on RV Trailer Connector
The 6-Way square plug on the RV most likely indicates that it uses separate circuits for the brake lights and turn signals. You will need a converter to combine the brake and turn signal circuits and then wire the output wires from the converter to the 4-Way flat. You could just use # 119178. On it the white wire is ground, red is input for brake lights only (probably that red or black wire you did not connect), green is right turn signal, yellow is left turn signal, and brown is running...

In order to take the separate brake lights and turn signals from your Itasca Motorhome and convert them to the combined circuits for your trailer, I recommend using the Tekonsha Upgraded Circuit Protected Tail Light Converter # 119178. This will be powered by the battery and will install before the 6-Way trailer connection. You can then simply use a 6 Pole to 4 Pole adapter like the Pollak # PK12717 to connect with the trailer. I have included an image that shows the wiring locations...

I went out to the warehouse to measure the diameter of the round part of Mighty Cord adapter # A10-7264VP. It has a diameter of 1 inch. Since your motorcycle has a 6-Way connector check to see if the brake lights are combined with the turn signals or if everything is on its own circuit. Use a circuit tester such as # PTW2993 or a meter if you have one and see which pins have power with the brake lights on and each turn signal on. • Adding a Trailer Wiring Harness to a 2007 Harley Electraglide Classic to Tow a Solace Camper
Motorcycles and trailers designed to be towed behind motorcycles have brake lights that are separate from the turn signal circuits. Provided this is true for your bike and trailer then you could wire a wiring harness directly to the bike's wiring. You would just need the proper vehicle side connector. It seems that many motorcycle trailers use a 5-Way flat so for a vehicle side you could use # HM47900. And I have also included a link to all of the vehicle side connectors we carry in case...

Because the functions on a semi 7-Way connector are different than those in the RV industry a regular adapter would not work. Some of the circuits have to be combined so a converter is needed. It would actually be easier to just add an RV style 7-Way on the semi rather than making an adapter as described in the question you referenced. If your semi has combined brake lights and turn signals on the same circuits then you would just need a vehicle side 7-Way such as # 50-87-009 and wire...

It certainly sounds like you are dealing with a bad converter. If you have already tested the wires going in and out of the Hopkins # HM48925, you have narrowed the problem down to the converter itself. It is not unheard of for the converters to go bad after some time. It would not make a difference with the LED/incandescent light setup. Since 07 Endeavors did not come with a tow package, you will need to hardwire your vehicle. The wiring system on this vehicle is not strong enough to support both the vehicle and trailer lights, so a powered converter or Modulite is required.
