Should Hitch Ball on WD System be Set to Height that Promotes Level Towing Prior to Engaging Arms
Question:
My Sway Pro was set up incorrectly by the rv dealer I purchased TT from. Ball is about 5-6inch below TT hitch when TT is level and the ball platform is as high as it can go on the 7 hole shank in the up position. Ive been getting a bad towing experience pulling my 7700# TT fully loaded but w/no FW in tank with my f150 ecoboost w/max tow package 11,200# rated. Other people I know with 1/2 tons less than mine and towing more say they have no concerns. I started out with the 7th link and stayed at the 9th link for quite some time with the three links showing between the saddle and bar after watching your video. Still not a good tow, so I recently went to the 10th link and have felt improvement. I only have one more link to go and figure Id use that when my forward FW tank is 1/3 full or more. Would having the TT level with ball from the get-go make any difference? as the weight seems to be well distributed to the truck axles with current setup at 10 links.

Yes, very much so.
With any WD system, even a Blue Ox SwayPro like part # BXW1000, you want to ensure that the hitch ball is sitting at a location the location that would promote a level towing experience. Since a heavier travel trailer will cause a tow vehicle to squat, the WD system is designed to help bring the whole towing system back to level.
Attached is a helpful article that shows how to select the correct ball mount for your towing application. Obviously this will just apply to how you adjust your ball mount on the WD shank.
