Best Weight Distribution Hitch For Coachmen Freedom Express 23.9 SE Travel Trailer

Question:

I have a 2019 Ram Rebel 1500 with coil suspension. I am towing a coachmen freedom express 23.9se. Currently I’m using an older Reese trunnion bar weight distribution and sway control system. The system is old and worn out and replacement parts have been hard to find so I would like to switch to something new. What would be the best set up for my current tow vehicle and trailer. The coachman seems to have a pretty high hitch weight due to the fact the fresh water tank is so far forward in the trailer. I would like to be able to back up and I would like it to be adjusted somewhat easily.

Thanks for that info, and we do have a system that meets all your needs, with excellent sway control, the ability to back up, and easier adjustability. Your Coachmen Freedom Express 23.9 SE has a GVWR of 7,000 lbs and dry hitch weight of 566 lbs, so when loaded, your total tongue weight will be in the range of about 800 to 900 lbs.

For that total tongue weight, the best option for you is a weight distribution hitch from Blue Ox:

- Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution with Sway Control # BXW1000

The SwayPro # BXW1000 is for total tongue weights between 750 lbs and 1,000 lbs which is perfect for your trailer, uses clamp-on brackets, has the tilt already built into the head so you don't have to adjust that, and to adjust the spring bar chain you simply place it in the bracket and turn the supplied wrench.

So the SwayPro is the easiest system to use, but is also going to give you a more comfortable overall towing experience because the chain system is quieter than friction bar systems, and because of its superior sway control. It is a 4-point sway control system, offering tension at the head as well as the brackets for the best prevention you can get against trailer sway.

There are no additional parts required either, because the the SwayPro # BXW1000 comes with everything you need, including the hitch ball.
