    • 30' x 5/16" Nylon Rope
    • 20' x 2" Strap

Note: Cannot be used with metal cable.

Fulton single-speed winches feature efficient gear ratios, full-length drum bearings, oil-impregnated shaft bushings and "Comfort Grip" handles. High-carbon steel gears are strong and long-lasting, and stamped carbon steel frames ensure rigidity for gear alignment and a long cycle life. Strap not included.

This winch features solid drum-gear construction, meaning the drum and the gear are made as 1 single piece. Unlike other winches that have a riveted drum and gear with space in between, this winch's solid construction provides no spaces that water or debris can get into. Since water can't get in, the risk of corrosion in between the drum and gear is eliminated, ensuring many years of worry-free operation.

Video Transcript for Fulton Single Speed Trailer Winch Review and Installation

Jake: Hey guys, this is Jake here with etrailer. Today we're going to take a look at and I'm going to show you how to get in place the Fulton trailer winch. Now this winch is going to be available in a few different sizes. Just see etrailer for your correct fitment. This is going to be a one speed winch, which means it's going to have one gear paired with the outside gear for the spool itself, so it's going to have one speed to bring the strap back into itself rather than those two speeds that may be a little bit more complicated to use. Although you might get a little bit faster pull out of them, they have more things on them to break. The body of the winch itself is going to have a heavy duty steel construction with a zinc finish, which is going to help resist against that rusting corrosion that this winch may be susceptible to because of the amount of water it's going to be exposed to.It's going to have a seven inch handle which is plenty of handle to give you enough leverage to tighten up your boat to where it's secure.

This knob here on the end is pivoting so that you have a comfortable grip when tightening that down. This winch is going to have three different directions. You can have it in forward like we have now, which is when you're pulling your boat towards you. Reverse is when you flip it all the way down and this is going to allow you to have a controlled release of your boat, or you can shift it into neutral, which is in the middle of the two. This is going to make it a lot easier in the neutral position to be able to pull it out to a full length without having to uncrank it all the way. With this winch, you are going to get a 20 foot strap.

That's going to be really, really handy in those cases where your motor on your boat might die and you don't have any other option to get it up onto the trailer. You can simply unhook this, shift it into the neutral mode, tote it back to the back of your trailer, hook it up and crank it all the way up onto the trailer. Now that we've gone over some of those details, let's go ahead and take a look at how easy it is to get installed. To get your new winch installed, you're going to start by inserting your hardware. Now you can reuse your old hardware, but ours was so rusted that we went ahead and got some new hardware. You will have to supply this yourself.

The kit does not come with any. There we go, and now we can go ahead and tighten those two nuts down. Now to get your handle in place, once you have your winch all tightened down, take that nut off, insert your handle, and replace nut. Here we go. Once you have the nut tightened down on the handle you can go ahead and clip it into your boat and crank it down. You do want to give it a few cranks just to get this spool tighter than what the factory has it at. There we go, that's tight enough. Now once you have everything all tightened down and your boat secured, you're ready to hit the road. With all that being said, that's going to do it for our look at the Fulton trailer winch..

See what our Experts say about this Fulton Trailer Winch

  • Correct Replacement for Fulton Winch Model 228
The Fulton Winch Model 228 is a very old model and there will be no direct replacements for this. I recommend simply selecting a winch that meets your weight and mounting requirements. The Fulton Single Speed Trailer Winch part # F142101 for example has a 1,100 lb weight capacity. It comes with a 7" long handle and has a single speed design. I have attached a full list of winch options below.

  • Is There a Replacement Ratchet Pawl Available for a Fulton T1100 1,100 Lb Winch
I do have an option for you but the replacement ratchet pawl, formerly part 1598S01 is no longer available for the Fulton T1100 1,100 Lb Winch. Therefore, the only option we'd be able to offer is a full replacement, the Fulton Single Speed Trailer Winch part # F142101 which will allow you to reuse your old strap or rope.

  • Recommended Winch to Raise and Lower Sailboat Mast
What you are needing is a hand winch that will ratchet in both directions like the Fulton # F142101. This winch has a gear ratio of 4.1:1. This means to get this drum to turn one revolution you would need to crank this handle around 4.1 times. The winch has a 7" handle which makes for easy cranking and it uses a nylon rope or strap like you want. When raising the sail you can stop at any time while cranking. When lowering the sail you will want to make sure you keep control of the handle....

  • Does Fulton Single Speed Trailer Winch # F142101 Come with Strap
The Fulton Single Speed Trailer Winch # F142101 referenced in your question does not include a strap, but one can be easily added with the Fulton Heavy-Duty Winch Strap # FWS20HD0200. This 20 foot long x 2 inches wide strap will work great with this Fulton Winch and includes a hook with a keeper to secure what you are connecting to. I have attached a couple short video demonstrations on these products that you can also check out.
