Can Trailers Tires with 2 Different Load Ranges be Used Together

Question:

Double jet ski trailer, needed new tires. Bought one thinking they were the same but the max load for new tire is 700, old tire still in use is 900. Is this going to be a problem? Will another 700 work? 2 jet skis... one 600 lbs the other probably 500lbs dry weight. Tires are both 5.70-8.

What you have are 2 tires in the same size but with different load ranges. Any given tire size can have more than one load range. The new one you bought is likely a load range B and the other one on the trailer is likely a load range C.

The higher load range means that it has a higher ply rating and more material internally to reach the higher rating. It also takes more air pressure than a lower load range. What will happen is that you will have uneven tire wear, possible tracking/ride quality issues, and one tire could build up excessive heat.

Ideally you want the tires to have the same ratings all around to avoid any potential problems. For another load range C in 5.70-8 you can use # AM10012. For another load range B use # AM10010.
