Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Installed relatively easily. There are two etrailer videos to install hitches on venza. One recommended pulling off the rubber muffler insulators while the other suggested un bolting the attachments. I had a hard time getting the rubber insulators off so I was researching that and found the other etrailer video that suggested just removing the bolts... much easier and no problem getting the hitch in place. It was a little challenging getting the bolts back in once the hitch was installed, but a little grit got it done. I did it with my 8 year old daughter and 5 year old son. Took us a little over an hour and a half to install including collecting tools and doing some of it at a kids pace. I think it looks and functions great!

The hitch has performed flawlessly.

This hitch is beastly. We got this as a Christmas gift for my dad. He was worried about having a hitch on his car because the muffler hangs low, but the hitch is designed to fit around the muffler, adding protection to the muffler and size to the hitch. Because this hitch is bulky and heavy, it is best to have a two people install it together to help maneuver it into place. We did not need to lower the exhaust, but the driver's side was an awfully tight space to work and required a long extension for our socket wrench.

As for etrailer, I was very happy with their customer service. Originally I was going to get a different hitch but within 20 minutes of ordering it, they let me know that hitch was delayed in its shipping and offered me two alternatives that were in stock. They went above and beyond to contact me, meet my needs, and verify that I was satisified. I would definitely use them again.

Received my hitch receiver in a very timely manner, as promised. Installed on a 2010 Toyota Venza. The instructional video was fantastic, gave good close ups of the undercarraige of my vehicle and was very easy to follow. I'm a senior and when my wife saw me lying flat of my back on the driveway underneath the car she just had to ask why I didn't wait for some help. I had to explain to her once again that when a man gets a new toy the last thing he wants do is wait (thinking like that has gotten me into trouble on past projects, but not on this one). With nothing more than the aid of a floor jack I installed it by myself in an hour. I'm convinced if I had waited for another set of hands we could have do it in 30 minutes. At-a-boy etrailer, very satisfied with my experience with you. I will be telling others about you.

Easy install!! Saved almost $200 from one hitch installer and almost $300 from another. This couldn't be any better. Thanks etrailer! Really happy! With AWD on my 2010 Venza it added a few steps but the instructions were really easy to follow. Adding the lighting harness today, looks like no problem. Plug in to existing wiring, no wire splicing and a wire run to the battery. Great!

I received this product on 10/12/16 and had it installed the same day. Shipping was very fast. I did not have to lower my exhaust for install but I did have to park with my vehicle's back end hanging over a curb with the drivers side rear quarter jacked up. The passengers side of the vehicle can be installed without having to do any of these extra steps however, on my 2015 Venza XLE AWD, the drivers side exhaust has 2 pipes almost exactly where the hitch needs to be mounted. With a bit of twisting and turning I was able to get it in fairly easily once I had a little extra height in the drivers side. I can see how lowering the exhaust would make this a lot easier and being that's it's only 4 bolts, do yourself a favor. I did have a friend help me and don't really see how anyone has done this by their self (and I'm fairly mechanically inclined.) As described in another review, the hitch is not heavy but it is by no means light either. With the awkward shape of the hitch and working out n such a tight area, it will go much easier with a helping hand. Install took approximately 1 hour for me. Overall, very pleased with the appearance and it seems to be very very stout and durable.

Purchase was smooth from ordering to receiving. Installation was very easy as well, I just removed the 4 bolts that hold the rear exhaust hanger to slide the hitch in place. A swivel socket is very helpful specifically for installing the hitch bolts on the driver side. Pretty basic and straight forward installation.

2009 Toyota Venza

Great customer service, very fast shipping, GREAT shipping price (FREE!!) and great price on product. Arrived in good shape, as advertised and took 25 mins to install (squirt your rubber muffler hangers with a little lube and use a large pair of pliers or "channel locks" to help them pop right off, if required, carefully use a flat head screw driver to remove the "sticker" covering the bolt holes (back two holes and furthermost forward hole for my install) then enjoy the install. Having a long extension and a swivel joint helped big time.) Install was on a 2 wheel drive 2009 Venza.

2012 Toyota Venza

Beat up! When the hitch came out of the box, the paint was chipped and damaged badly. The box it was shipped in was in good condition, so it makes me think it was shipped in that condition. Looks like it was dropped a few times and banged against another metal object. Very disappointing for a "new" hitch.

I installed the hitch and wiring kit on my 2015 Toyota Venza in a couple of hours using the information and videos available from the website. Great Quality, Easy Installation. Installed on our primary vehicle and we had installed one previously on our secondary vehicle, same brand and quality so this is our second time buying our trailer hitch from etrailer. Perfect for our bike rack, cargo carrier, towing(no more than each vehicle's capacity), etc. I recommend this unit.

@James We're happy to hear the hitch is working well for you. We checked with Thule, Yakima and Rhino-Rack, and unfortunately they don't offer a roof rack option for the 2022 Venza. Wish we had better news for you.

Heavy duty construction, perfect welds, instructions were easy to follow. I watched a youtube video and had it installed in less than 30 min all by myself. Everything lined up perfectly, the two exhaust rubber biscuits had to be undone to get the extra few inches to slide the hitch into place. Used red loctite and don't forget to order the wiring kit...

Easy to install with the help of a buddy. No need to unscrew anything under the chassis for non AWD 2013 Venza. Just slip it in between the chassis and the exhaust system and bolt it on. It's done in less than 30 minutes. And it's a beauty once you see the finish product! Thanks to etrailer for upgrading my shipping.

After a year in Northern Illinois weather the hitch still looks brand new. When I bought this for my wife's car I wasn't sure it would fit right with the low clearance her car has. But, it fits perfectly and is great for the bike rack in the summer, and cargo rack when we travel. Price was really spot on as well. Great product.

2 years in Northern Illinois and the hitch still looks new. The paint on this thing is great. Even after this last winter with months of road salt it still looks and works like it did when it was new. You definately get a deal with this hitch at this price!

by:

The hitch already had rust on it and was banged up a bit. The box was completely intact, so it was not from shipping, plus the rust was not fresh, likely damaged at the factory.

The biggest complain was the install. I muscled this hitch for well over an hour trying to align the holes, the back were the most difficult, which were slightly too narrow for my vehicle. I had to pull the steel frame apart (with a helper) to get the threads to catch (yes, I had the other bolts loose, I'm very well mechanically experienced.)
I almost gave up on the install, but I didn't want to have to wait for another unit to be shipped out which would likely be the same anyway and just waste time. I could have drilled it wider, but I didn't expect to struggle with it for so long.
Paint quality otherwise was very nice, too bad they decided to toss it around and bang it up and too bad the welder didn't align the bracket correctly.
It's really 2 stars because of the quality control issue. Maybe you'll have better luck with yours.
Shipping time was not impressive for todays standards, 3 business days to receive a tracking number.

  • Does Using a Weight Distribution System Increase the Towing Capacity of a 2009 Toyota Venza
Any vehicle's towing capacity is set in stone. If the maximum for your 2009 Toyota Venza is 3,500 pounds then it cannot tow more than that whether you are using weight distribution or not and regardless of what the hitches are rated for. Check the vehicle owner's manual because sometimes vehicles can have a weight carrying capacity (not using weight distribution) and a separate capacity listed when using weight distribution. But I am fairly certain that your Venza is limited to 3,500 pounds...

I may have a solution that will allow you to load your Hobie Pro Angler 14 kayak on the roof rack of your 2009 Toyota Venza, but before you select a kayak carrier for your vehicle, I strongly recommend checking the weight capacity of your vehicle's roof. The weight capacity of most vehicle roofs is not very high and this information should be located in your owners manual. It is likely that you will not be able to safely load both kayaks on your roof due to the weight of both kayaks....
