Perfect for light-duty towing, this custom, vehicle trailer hitch receiver features fully welded, gloss powder coated steel construction. Drawbar sold separately.I had a trailer hitch receiver on a 1994 Volvo 850, and I wanted the add a hitch receiver to a 2004 Volvo V70. I knew this was definitely a DIY project. My previous experience installing a Hitch Receiver on an older vehicle was a 2001 Jeep Cherokee. The greatest challenge was getting the mounting hardware into the the existing threaded holes or onto holes that did not already have threads.
I watched some videos on installing a hitch receiver onto the 04 V70. However, that hitch only had four bolts. I also read many of the reviews for this hitch. I did not experience any of the problems or issues indicated in other reviews. The hitch receiver had a snug fit, but all holes lined up properly. I did not have to make any modifications to the exhaust bracket.
I removed the four existing bolts, which are M12 x 35 mm flange bolts with a 1.75 pitch. I used a 17mm socket with a breaker bar and 1/2 ratchet. The hitch receiver comes with six bolts (not flange type), six flat washers and six lock or spring washers. They appears to also be M12 with a 1.75 pitch. However, these bolts did not appear to be as tapered as the existing flange bolts. Therefore, they were not as easy to start. Therefore, I decided to use the existing flange bolts and to get to new flange bolts.
The existing flange bolts appeared to have some type of lock tight on them. Therefore, I used a wire brush on a Dremel tool to clean the bolts. I installed them with non-permanent lock tight. I included a lock washer on the two new flange bolts. Everything lined up and went together easily. Total install working time less than an hour without a lift or jacks. I just backed over a small retaining wall to provide some clearance.
I did not have to modify the bumper and the receiver is not too far under the bumper or too low. I used a ball hitch that extend upward about 2 inches and it aligned nicely with my trailer.
I pulled a single axle trailer for about 20 miles without a problem. I will double check the bolts from time to time to make sure that bolts are not coming loose.
Works and looks great. I use it for a Thule Helium bike rack and it's perfect for this application. I did have a little trouble with installation as hitch was probably bent just over 1/4 inch in shipping. I had to use a hydralic jack and 4X4 to bend back (get bolting surfaces separated about 3/8" inch) to fit around gas tank and line up bolt holes. So installation took much longer than expected, but hitch looks and works great!
Works great for carrying my ebike's rack, which is heavy and bulky. Not sure what else it would support, but that's all I need.
It fits my 2004 Volvo V70 AWD perfect!
My local Volvo garage asked to put it on since they have heard such awesome reviews on the ease and fit. Thank you for your correspondence and care of your product to your customer. You don't see that these days and it is an "A+" from me.
I purchased the custom hitch for my car and found the customer service extremely helpful and courteous. The installation videos are applicable to a wide range of vehicles and the price and shipping were easy. I ordered on Saturday, product shipped Monday and arrive Friday.
Folks at etrailer- Erica G. and/or George J. - Hitch receiver was exactly, precisely as promised. Barely broke a sweat with installation, nearly idiot-proof. Thanks for the good work! John D. in Virginia
This is the third hitch I've purchased. All have been great. Great product, great instructions. Holes lined up perfectly. Hardware was complete. Very happy customer.

sure. whats not to like
Great product at a great price! I paid a little extra for faster shipping so that it would be at my house so I could install it on my days off. Arrived on time as stated. Excellent packaging. Curt trailer hitch and hardware intact and in excellent condition. New hitch went on my 2004 Volvo XC70 without a hitch! (Pun intended). Used it today to make a dump run with my M416 Army trailer. Performed perfectly. The round frame design of the hitch blends in neatly with the underside of my Volvo. I will be placing an order for receiver covers shortly. I highly recommend etrailer.com.
The one problem was that the brackets were a little bit too tight, and didn’t line up with the holes in my frame. This was easily fixed by pounding on the brackets of the hitch with a mallet. Other than that minor issue, everything was great!
After a time, I got the hitch frame installed. The total time to install after I rounded up the tools I needed was 45 minutes. I did have to buy a 15mm socket to lower the exhaust and remove a mystery piece bolted to the passengers side. A little wiggling to get above the exhaust bracket and then it was just a matter of tightening the six bolts. The receiver sits under further than I expected but It works great. The pic is the mystery piece from the passenger side.
Great product! Heavy duty, even for a Class II. A little tricky to install if you don't have a jack around, especially when it comes to keeping the exhaust bracket aligned, but hey, it's a Volvo. All holes lined up well and I am more than pleased with the end result. The "Euro style" draw bar was also a fun addition to this. A unique change to the typical style. Thank you etrailer.com.
Great experience and easy installation. Instructions were straight forward and accurate so there were no installation surprises. Plan to use the new hitch with a 1UP bicycle rack.
Fast shipping, solid item, fit perfectly. All hardware included. However, if you like frustration--and apparently I do--then, yes, this is a one-man job. Of course, you could do like I eventually did and find a couple of things of the right height to hold the bracket in place (see picture) while you wrench your neck threading the bolts. All things considered, this almost couldn't be simpler. Very good price and free shipping. Thank you very much!
So far so good! I received my trailer hitch not even a week after I had ordered it. I bolted onto my Volvo V 70 very easily. It looks sharp and I’m excited to try it out. Thank you!!!
Install on a 2005 Volvo V70 FWD WAGON took 20 minutes. The tow eye on the right side is removed and discarded. All six bolts lined up perfectly. Put one bolt in right side first , then put in left side with muffler bracket and hold with one bolt. Then install the other four. Check bolt torque after first use like a real tech. Really almost invisible under car
If you need help with finding a trailer hitch, look no further. I have a Volvo and was looking for a trailer hitch. I contacted the dealership and was put on hold for 30 minutes. They said that they would call me back, never did. I then called etrailer within 5 minutes my order was placed. I received my hitch 2 days later. This is a no nonsense business, that believes in the customer. I highly recommend this company and will use it for future use.
I installed this hitch on a 2007 Volvo XC70. I had previously installed the same product on a 2004 XC70 (they're great wagons, I own both of them). Installation took less than an hour and was straightforward, and the fit was perfect on both cars without having to raise it up (i.e. it can be done with the car on the ground). The exhaust has to be dropped to slide it in but is not difficult to do. The hitch performs flawlessly pulling my small 5'x8' motorcycle trailer. If you're using either of these cars, the Euro style drawbar works fine with the 2004 XC70 but not with the 2007 XC70 due to the extra plastic cladding on the 2007's rear bumper (you'll need to use a slightly longer drawbar, I picked one up at a local store). Also the 2004 has a pluggable wiring harness available that makes electrical hookup a breeze but the 2007 "requires" swapping out modules so that the car can monitor leveling (which isn't quite true, I used a regular converter kit and just tapped into existing wiring without any trouble but it's a lot more work). Happy with the purchase, would do it again in a heartbeat if needed. I like the heavy construction, and the paint finish seems to hold up well.

A year later its still working and looking great. I ended up using a straight locking pin instead of the typical slightly curved one because the chain hooks on my trailer are pretty beefy and I needed the room. I mostly use it to haul things around for people locally but am hoping to get a bike rack later this year so we can ride in the local park.
This is the second trailer hitch I've bought from etrailer. The last one, a year ago was for a 2013 Subaru Impreza. Components and instructions were spot on and installation was a breeze. I towed a trailer from New England to florida and back and the hitch and wiring worked flawlessly.
I just received the hitch and wiring for my 2001 Volvo V70XC yesterday and probably won't install it for a few days. I'll write another review on the installation but I am sure it will be as easy as the last one.

Ive now had the trailer hitch for my 2001 Volvo V70XC for a year. Last January I towed a trailer from New England to Florida and then back in April. For both trips the trailer hitch and wiring worked perfectly. I am now purchasing my third trailer hitch from etrailer for a BMW X5.
2003 Volvo XC70 - Unfortuately the delivered hitch (12318) is to narrow by 1/4th - 3/8th of an inch. The driver side exhaust bracket and the hitch pit perfectly all three bolts fit nicely. The passenger side of the hitch is off by 1/4th to 3/8th inch. Even with the hitch holes slotted it will not fit. This is mainly due to the hitch fitting snuggly around the fuel tank with no room to move left or right in the slots.
Other than this issue the hitch is very well built. I feel certain it can be resolved.

It sounds like your trailer hitch mounting brackets have flexed a little bit. The mounting brackets are made from a mild steel that allows the hitch to flex with the vehicle after installation. This flex can also occur in shipping and warehousing. I have linked an article with some easy ways to correct this flex so you can get your hitch installed.

Victoria etrailer expert guided me to an article with the solution. Once I made the adjustment the hitch fit perfectly - 5 stars
Very happy with product. I use it to attach my bicycle carrier to the car. I did not install wiring for actual towing. It fit the car well and installation was easy. I appreciate the high strength bolt sent with receiver hitch. The bolts would be the place the system could be compromised with inferior fasteners.

Receiver hitch still working fine.
This seems like a quality hitch and I think it'll work but there are two problems: the rear towhook mount had to be removed for it to fit, and the pin that comes with it won't work, since the bend in it doesn't allow it to be rotated in the hole to get the hole for the clip aligned such that there's enough room to actually insert the clip. I'll have to find a new pin, and the towhook problem isn't that big of a deal, but nonetheless there are two surprises that I would've rather known of in advance.

After one year this hitch has gotten less use than Id planned for, but now that Ive found a bike rack that works well with it and have the right setup it seems perfect.
I took this all the way back to England on an aeroplane
worth the effort as it fits without cutting into the fender
unlike the European ones.
I can now use the cycle rack and cargo carrier on the same
tow bar and not just tow a trailer. I am sure there is a market for theses
overseas. I found this product through You tube which even showed how to
fit it. Well done.

Still a very good product and with this design I never have to worry about walking into the ball
Received the hitch without a hitch. (pardon the pun)
It was well built. The instructions were a one page illustration that worked well. No special tools were required. A metric socket set was all I used. I also watched a YouTube video which made the installation effort go a little smoother. My son and I installed it in about 45 minutes. I didn't need to even jack up the car. If you do, remember jack stands.

Continues to work well. No signs of rust.
The hitch came right away, and had all the parts and pieces I needed to install it. It also was brand new. I say that because I had first tried to purchase this hitch through another big store, but I received a hitch that wasn't the right one, had no hardware to install it, and it looked used with scratches and dings all over it.
The video on from etrailer explaining the install process was really helpful.

After one year, Id still give this hitch 5 stars. I use the hitch at least 3 times a week. I actually havent thought about it much at all until etrailer was nice enough to follow up after one year thanks for that. Not having to think about the hitch is probably the best compliment I can give :-

I found it necessary to use a 10 drive extension on the ratchet drive in order to clear the chassis with the drive handle.
