Video Transcript for Curt 1-1/4 Inch Rubber Tube Cover Review

Hey everyone, Ryan here at etrailer. Today we're gonna be checking out the CURT rubber hitch cover. So this one here is going to work with the inch and a quarter by inch and a quarter trailer hitches, like the one that we have here today on our vehicle. And if you happen to have the larger two inch by two inch hitch, there's one available for that as well. So regardless what you got, you should be in pretty good shape. And with these, there's not really a whole lot to them.

In my opinion, I feel like the main reason I personally would use it is to help with the appearance, right Kind of just give that finishing touch to the back of your vehicle, 'cause with it like this, don't look bad by any means, right But you see that open hole there, and by taking the cover, popping that in, it just looks a little bit cleaner. I could see this potentially helping keep the hitch in better condition, at least on the inside too, when you're not using it, might help prevent moisture and stuff from getting inside of there. So that's always a thought. And the way this is gonna work, this is just a friction fit. Alright, so there's these little ridges on each side of the square there, and when you go to push this in, just kind of catch it, and keep it in place, and it's pretty tight, you know what I mean I've had the etrailer version of this, they're really identical, but the two inch, little bit bigger one, on my vehicle for several years now at least.

And I've never had an issue with it falling out, or losing it, or anything like that. So I don't see why this one would be any different. Sounds like a couple people might have had some issues running it through the car wash and stuff, but I feel like that's really just gonna depend on the situation, right, how your hitch is set up on your vehicle, and things like that. So if you'd rather be safe than sorry if you do run it through the wash or anything, might not be a bad idea just to take this off just in case. The cover is going to be made from rubber, and it's pretty thick too, so it should hold up for quite some time.

And it's just because it's a CURT branded hitch cover doesn't mean it won't work with other manufacturers. So for example, if you happen to have a Draw-Tite trailer hitch, that's an inch and a quarter, this will still work just fine. So as long as you got that size opening, this will work, and plug right into that hitch. And it's only available in black. If you're looking for something a little bit different, there's a lot of other options, you know, ones with sports teams, and you name it, someone makes it, for the most part.

There's a lot of cool stuff out there. But if you're looking for something that is really simple, and it's gonna help kind of clean up the look of your vehicle, and make everything blend in, and maybe get a little extra protection from it, something like this, you really can't go wrong with. And that will finish up our look at of the CURT inch and a quarter hitch cover.

Curt Rubber Tube Cover - 1-1/4" - C22271

Do not leave you ball in the hitch because it will rust up. This cover keeps the hitch slot clean and dry. (keep the ball with your spare tire)

I purchased a Curt Class 2 tow hitch and a Curt 1-1/4” rubber tube cover expecting it to be a perfect match. Unfortunately, the cover has a loose fit in the hitch receiver and I fear road vibration will cause the pair to separate. I’ll probably wrap some friction tape around the outside diameter of the tube cover insert to ensure a tighter fit, but I shouldn’t have to. The cover should have a secure fit in the receiver. Especially since both are Curt products.

A nice finishing touch for my receiver installation. Stays in place, and keeps the crud out. Better than looking into the square abyss of an empty receiver cavity.

Excellent customer service & support! Bought for my 2013 Honda Fit and plan to trailer my Yamaha Tenere motorcycle around North America! Very happy with hitch.

I ordered the Curt 1-1/4" rubber tube cover for a Curt hitch that I installed on my 2004 Volvo XC70. I had previously ordered the hitch from etrailer.com and was extremely pleased with their service. Same for the Curt rubber tube cover. Great price and super fast shipping. Great communication after the sale so I knew exactly when my order shipped and when it would arrive. I actually ordered two Curt rubber tube covers. The Curt hitch is open at both ends so I used a cover for both openings to keep dirt and debris from collecting inside the receiver tube. Tight fit so no worries that they will fall out. Excellent product from an excellent supplier.

by:

Interference fit holds tight, won't rust like steel or break like plastic.

by:

My order was handled quickly and received in just a couple days. It was perfect. Thanks!

by:

Received a new one quickly in the mail, my previous one lasted 7 years

by:

Great product and quick delivery!

by:

Perfect fit ! Looks good and keeps road debris and dirt out. Adds the professional stealthy finishing touch to my Curt receiver. Ordering another for my other car.

by:

Works good and as expecetd.

I not only purchased an additional cover to my hitch after I put the original on the top of my car and drove away, but with the awesome customer care I got when calling, I purchased my trailer/bicycle hitch and bike rack through etrailer! So, I was at the Western Maryland Rail Trail on this beautiful Sunday when a Mercedes pulled up next to my Audi A5 who had a disappointed trunk bicycle rack. I told them how awesome etrailer was to work with and fit the perfect hitch, rack and cover for my specific car! I'm so thrilled with your service and to share this with others!

Original 1 1/4" 'Subaru' hitch cover was missing after I had work done at the local Subaru dealership. Ordered this Curt rubber tube cover as replacement, price was reasonable and looks as good as original. However it doesn't fit quite a snug. Could see how it might be forced out in an automatic car wash.

My Curt hitch cover is in tact and serving its purpose after a year of drivinghauling/off and on the hitch. Havent lost it yet.

by:

still have one of two purchased, so remember to take it off prior to entering a car wash. Will order again if need, still makes the hitch look neat and professional as it covers the unavoidable rust on the insider of the receiver. If I did not lose any in car washes, the rating would have been five stars, but I have no suggestion that would improve it. It comes out easily, but holds in well, except in am car wash.

Still holding on to my last one, its holding up well and apparently I can be trained because I have been remembering to take it off before entering a car wash-I still recommend it as an excellent value!

I wanted a rubber plug because my old hard plastic plug that came with the hitch got lost. I tried a hard plug replacement plug but it would not fit. This fit it easily. The only think that bothers me, is that this rubber plug might be too loose and I may have to think up a retainer of some sort.

great. Fits too tight sometimes. My old Hidden hitch plug fit better and I would still have if neighborhood kid didnt think it was a toy.

by:

Excellent hitch for my Toyota! For the most part in was pretty easy to install. I had a second set of hands to help hold in place during the install. This product has worked great for me being able to take my bicycle on my trips.

I put the 118673 wiring kit and a Curt Hitch receiver on a 2019 Honda HRV All Wheel drive and How can one not love it when you get done and it all works like it is supposed to. The Curt hitch almost hides at the back of the vehicle. My wife didn't notice it until I told her it was already installed.
Keeping in mind, the times suggested are for a “PRO” who has a hoist to put the vehicle on and it will take the DIYer a bit longer. The only “real problem” that I had was that with the torque wrench I have, (one brought over on the Mayflower) I was unable to get enough swing to use it on the nut up above the muffler so after tightening the driver side nut, I then used a box-end and using the feel needed to tighten it a bit more, I used that feel to tighten the passenger side above the muffler. Even at 75 years of age and with vertigo, I still have the ability to turn an hour job into a 5 hour job and now my wife understands why I did not want her to sell my ramps, jack-stands and other things she thought an old man shouldn't need. Chidding aside, the videos accessed from etrailer were very good and very helpful. First, because I am “cheap” I was not going to pay over $400 to have a hitch installed, almost $500 for one that was not visible when not in use when the rear differential on the AWD HRV was visible from behind anyhow. I was also not going to pay to use a hoist so I just borrowed a set of ramps using them first under the rear wheels and then under the front to complete the installation of the power lead from the vehicle battery to the trailer lite converter box. A couple suggestions; the first, is do not take the fish wires off of the bolts before you have the hitch up in place. I thought that the hitch was light enough that I could put it up there, hold it in place and start the nuts but as luck would have it, one of the bolts ended up inside the frame. Not wanting it in there to rattle around I had to find a magnet small enough to fit through the hole used to fish the bolt into place and using a stiff enough piece of wire to be able to move the magnet effectively I manage to recover the bolt. Then I had to “RE-form” the fish wire to use it again to fish the bolt into place again. The second suggestion is that I used a lot more Zip-ty's than were supplied because we live in snow country and I did not want snow and ice hanging from the power lead and bringing it down lower and possibly getting damaged during our winters and I also put the power lead inside a flexible vinyl tubing which took a bit of creative pursuation to get 20 feet of wire into a 3/8 in flexible vinyl tubing but I think the extra protection the lead will have is worth the effort. And finally, if you remove a cargo area light from the cargo area side panel to get extra room behind the side panel, one has to make sure you have put it back into its place of mounting or you will have to take the rear door threshold and side panel loose again to get your cargo area light back into its proper place.

This is the second time buying a trailer hitch setup from you. Overall another great experience. Thank you!

by:

Easy to order and product was exactly what I needed.

by:

had two for over a year, but auto car washes have taken both away at this point and I am now ordering replacement. The cover for the most part stays in place and gives the vehicle a finished look when the hitch is off. Trouble with soft cloth car washes is the cloths can whip these covers out, but I have learned my lesson and will remove the cover and replace after the wash in the future.

by:

Excellent product for covering a trailer hitch. makes a lot more sense than the plastic ones. Nice secure snug fit.

This is a great cover and should I ever need another one Ill certainly order from you again.

by:

This was a small purchase but I needed it to spruce up the trailer hitch on my 1991 Miata. I painted it red to match my car and then highlighted the word "CURT" on it. I was surprised with such a small purchase how good the customer service with order confirmation, tracking and follow-thru was. I would definitely keep etrailer in mind for my next larger purchase as I know I would get top notch service and pricing.

by:

I am really pleased with your company. Every time I order something I get at the time promised, also quality and service makes companies great!

by:

I ordered two of these covers for when I'm not using my hitch-head so I can keep dirt out of the receiver. They arrived very fast and fit perfectly. Thanks

Exactly as t should work - no problems at all

by:

Easy plug and play installtion. Looks nice on my 2013 Prius with the drawtite hitch. Since the hitch sticks out an inch or so, the lip on this cover can catch on auto car wash rollers and get dislodged. Other reviewers mentioned this in their post as well. The rubber hitch cover will help ease injury if people accidentally hit the protruded hitch.

  • What is Needed to Carry Bikes on 2010 Honda Insight
The only thing that is required to carry bikes on your 2010 Honda Insight is a bike rack as well as the trailer hitch you mentioned, the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C11051. However, it is important to note that this is a Class I hitch with a 1-1/4 inch receiver, which means that the bike rack you get needs to be Class I compatible. For example, the perfect option for a Class I compatible rack is the Swagman XTC-2 Bike Rack for 2 Bikes # S64670. The Swagman XTC-2 is a fantastic value...

We have three 1-1/4 inch black rubber hitch receiver covers; part # C22271, part # 2211 and part # 60037. I have attached links to each of these products for you to check out. At this time we do not have a rubber 1-1/4 inch hitch cover with a Toyota logo.

  • Availability of Rubber Hitch Tube Cover in 1-1/4-Inch Size Similar to Curt # I-728
The Curt Rubber Hitch Tube Cover for 2-Inch Trailer Hitch Receivers, part # I-728 that you referenced, does have a similar mating product for smaller 1-1/4-inch size hitches such as the one on your wife's 2008 Toyota Sienna. The Curt Rubber Tube Cover # C22271 differs slightly in that it does not have the retaining ring that slips over the receiver tube to prevent loss of the cover.

  • Recommended Hitch Cover for Curt Class I Trailer Hitch on 2015 Acura TLX
For a rubber hitch cover that will work perfectly with the Class I Curt trailer hitch installed on your 2015 Acura TLX, I recommend the Curt # C22271 or the etrailer.com # 22281. Either option will push right into the hitch receiver to protect it from dirt and debris when you aren't using it for towing. I have attached a couple short video demonstrations on these covers that you can also check out.
