Hi everybody, my name is Andy with etrailer.com, and today we're taking a look at Coghlan's pocket compass with thermometer. If you we're looking for a convenient way to have a compass and a thermometer at your fingertips, I might just have the item here for you. What you have here is, you have a pocket compass and a thermometer that's combined as a really two valuable items in one nice compact unit that you can have with you on your outdoor travels. And let me take a closer look here at the first function here, we have this nice liquid-filled compass, that's gonna give you an accurate, reliable reading, and this also has a glow-in-the dark dial that can be seen in low light conditions. And I tested it out with my iPhone compass app, and it is very accurate, of course, you wanna hold it flat to get the accurate readings, and you wanna make sure to keep this compass away from other magnetic sources as well, because that will affect the readings. Then on the other side, we have a handy thermometer that will, of course, have the Fahrenheit and the Celsius readings.

And you wanna make sure that for the most accurate readings, you don't have your hand over that thermometer all the time, because it is going to pick up the warmth of your hand and affect the readings. This compass and thermometer are combined in a very nice, sturdy green plastic case, so that's gonna protect both the compass and the thermometer, and also on the back, there are instructions, see if I can get that to show up there for you. There are instructions on how to use the compass, so you always have those instructions with you, so you can have those when you're using this in the outdoors. And as you can see, this also includes a nice belt clip for easy carrying, not only do you have the belt clip, but you have this lanyard that you can easily put that around your neck, or tie that up on the back of a pack for easy carrying and easy accessibility. I kinda wanna show you what this looks like, using the clip, I just have a standard black leather belt here and that easily just slides into, in-between my belt and my jeans, and you can just close that over it, and it feels pretty secure, I think if you had something that bumped this up, it would slide off, it doesn't really have much of a lip here on the clip, to clip onto your belt, it just simply slides onto your belt, so be aware of that.

But the idea is you can keep this on your belt, open it up and look straight down to see the compass reading. And then if you want to look at the thermometer reading, you just lift this up, let me see if I can kind of turn to show you another perspective here, so you can look directly down and see your thermometer reading. So that's pretty handy and pretty convenient if you wanna carry it that way. And then you just fold that down to see your compass again, and then it closes up and it's nice and compact right there on your belt. While we're continuing to be zoomed in here, let me try to give you some measurements, just to give you an idea of the size.

Going straight across, from the hinge to the latch, we are sitting almost at about two and a half inches, and then looking at the thickness, from about its widest point, we're probably sitting close at, a little bit under inch and a half thick, overall. This handy clip is right at about, let's see if I can straighten it out here, about an inch and three quarters, depending on how I have that lined up, about an inch and three quarters on that clip. And the lanyard is a little over a foot long when you have it tied up. And then let me just open this up again here and just kinda give you an idea of the measurement when it's open. Straight across, and we're sitting, almost five inches, not quite, maybe four and five eighths inches across when this is all open.

Now, if you're looking for just a pocket compass, you're not necessarily looking for a thermometer, Coghlan does have a nice pocket compass with an illuminated dial and it also has a magnifier as well, so that's another option to consider if you're just looking for a pocket compass to take along on your travels.
